Chapter 805 A False Countercharge

Kimberly turned to leave, but Lola suddenly hugged her and cried, "Mom, no matter what I say, you won't believe me, will you? Enid was my good friend a long time ago. She went abroad, and we lost contact for years. We only met again at tonight's birthday party."

Lola cried as she explained, "My engagement with Phillipe was canceled long ago, but only our two families knew about it. When Enid asked, I couldn't say the engagement was still on, nor could I say it was off. What do you think I should have said?"

"I could only subtly tell her that the person with Phillipe now is Abella. I didn't dare to reveal anything else. Who knew she would misunderstand and think Abella stole him from me, and then secretly tell Willow about it."

"Because of them, the news reached Abella, and I was so angry that I confronted Enid. Who knew Enid would hit me in public? You can ask around if you don't believe me. I'm not lying to you."

Kimberly's body stiffened for a moment. Looking at the sobbing Lola, she said half-believingly, "But what I heard was that you pretended to be a student of KnightStrategist."

"I was talking about the male teacher who taught me violin before. Who knew Enid and the others thought it was KnightStrategist and said it in front of everyone, making me very embarrassed? In the end, to not ruin the birthday party's atmosphere, I had to apologize."

Lola hugged Kimberly tightly and asked with great grievance, "Mom, is it because I'm not your biological daughter that no matter how I explain, it's useless? Has your love for me over the past eighteen years been fake? Sometimes I really envy Abella. She has the Medici family blood in her. No matter what happens, everyone will stand by her side."

Kimberly glanced at her, feeling a pang of guilt.

"Did you really not tell your friends that Abella ruined your engagement with Phillipe?" Beckett couldn't help but ask.

"I swear, I didn't, really didn't." Lola cried her heart out. "Don't I know my own position? If I slandered Abella or did anything against her, you would kick me out of the house anytime. Why would I do something so detrimental?"

Beckett also found it reasonable, but tonight someone did say that Lola pretended to be a student of KnightStrategist and told her friend Enid that Abella ruined her engagement with Phillipe, which was why she was with Henry.

"What I said to Enid, only Enid and I know. Others are just hearsay, passed around. How credible can it be?"

Perhaps fearing her parents would ask Enid for clarification, Lola explained, "As I said earlier, Enid knew I wasn't with Phillipe, so she tried to curry favor with Phillipe's grandpa. Everyone saw it. She just wants to be Phillipe's wife."

Lola analyzed, "If she really considered me a good friend, and if I really said Abella ruined my engagement with Phillipe, as my good friend, she should have stood up for me first. How could she turn around and try to get close to Phillipe and his grandpa? Given her character, how credible are her words?"

Beckett vaguely felt it made sense. If Enid really considered Lola a good friend, she wouldn't have tried to get close to Phillipe the moment Lola said she wasn't with him.

"You can ask Abella about what happened at the party. I have no objection. But Abella doesn't know everything. How could she know what I said to Enid? What she heard was all from Enid, who had bad intentions. She wants to stir up trouble between Abella and me." Lola sobbed, wiped the tears from her face, and said, "So, I'm not making excuses. I'm just stating the facts."

Seeing her eyes red from crying, Beckett patted her shoulder and said, "You should rest first. We'll talk about this tomorrow. If you didn't do it, then we indeed misunderstood you tonight. You know, we owe Abella too much. We can't make it up to her enough and are just afraid she might suffer where we can't see."

"It's okay. I have been living Abella's life, so being misunderstood and suffering a bit is nothing compared to the hardships Abella faced outside. I understand and can bear it."

"That's not what we mean." Beckett suddenly felt a bit guilty. Tonight, they indeed didn't investigate thoroughly and rashly questioned the injured Lola based on a few words from others, without considering that things might not be as they were told.

"This isn't the first time you have questioned me like this. It's okay. The innocent will be proven innocent." Lola forced a smile, but tears still fell uncontrollably. She smiled bitterly, "You can also ask around. Tonight, it was Henry who carried me back. If I still had inappropriate feelings for Phillipe, I wouldn't have had intimate contact with another man."

Beckett nodded, "We understand. Kimberly, let's go back to our room and let Lola sleep well."

Lola withdrew her arms from Kimberly, obediently and stoically saying, "Good night, Mom and Dad."

"Good night." Beckett walked to the door, feeling a bit guilty, and stopped to ask, "Are your injuries okay?"

It would have been better if he hadn't asked. As soon as he did, Lola raised her face, trying hard to hold back her tears.

"It's nothing." Lola smiled bitterly, "Finally, one of you cares about my injuries. From the moment you stepped into the room until now, at least one of you remembered me. The nurse said it's just superficial wounds, no bone damage."

Beckett, being a kind person, felt even more guilty hearing her say this.

He couldn't help but ask, "Who did it? Your friend Enid? Or someone else?"

"Henry said he would help me get back at them. You don't need to worry about it." Lola gave a lonely smile, "You should go to bed early."

The way she said it made it seem like Henry was the only person she could rely on in the world. Her parents seemed very distant from her.

Beckett felt even more apologetic, "Okay."

He closed her door with a heavy heart and said after returning to their room, "Did we really wrong her?"

"She's right. Besides her and Enid, no one knows what they talked about." Kimberly sat on the dressing stool, took out her phone after a while, and dialed a friend's number, "Beverly, I want to ask if Enid was deliberately trying to curry favor with Mr. Bourbon tonight. Okay, I got it."
