Chapter 931 Twenty Slaps Are Not Excessive?
Even though sometimes he thought Lola was manipulative, she was still his sister, so he didn't take it to heart.
But who would have thought that she was so wicked on the surveillance footage?
When Abella first came back, he thought all sisters were like Lola—scheming, clingy, and possibly endlessly so. He figured she'd be timid, just returning home.
At that time, he was gravely injured, hanging by a thread, and had no time to deal with a child or consider her feelings.
He was afraid of girls crying. What if Abella were a crybaby?
Later, when he heard that Abella was becoming more and more popular at home, he thought she must be even more cunning than Lola; otherwise, how could she win everyone's hearts so quickly?
He didn't expect that Abella would win everyone over with her genuine skills and unique personality.
She was nothing like the "sister" he knew.
Looking at Lola in front of him, he suddenly felt the gap between them was vast.
Abella was reserved, independent, wise, decisive, and upright.
However, Lolawas deceitful, malicious, and had a twisted sense of right and wrong.
"Your birth mother humiliated Abella before she died. Now that she's gone, you will pay for it."
Lola's face showed shock and hurt, not expecting Dennis to say something so heartless. She was already so injured, unable to even get up, and Dennis still wanted to hit her to vent for Abella.
Suddenly, her resentment towards Abella surged again.
"Considering we were once family, twenty slaps isn't too much, right?"
If it were an outsider, beating them to death would be lenient. Considering they lived together for eighteen years, as family...
Dennis looked at Abbie. "Ever hit anyone before?"
Abbie shook her head, terrified.
"Now's your chance. Go, practice." Dennis couldn't be bothered to do it himself. He still had to peel grapes for Abella later and didn't want to dirty his hands.
Abbie knew Dennis's personality. If he said it, she had to do it.
She trembled as she approached, squatting in front of Lola. Even though she thought Lola's actions were despicable, she was still hesitant to hit her.
After all, she used to see Lola as her master.
Lola knew she was an outsider to this family. Even after eighteen years, once her true identity was revealed, any affection meant nothing.
She knew begging was useless. Tears streamed down her face as she weakly called out, "Dennis..."
"What are you waiting for?" Dennis seemed impatient.
"Sorry." Abbie steeled herself and slapped Lola. The crisp sound echoed in the air.
Lola's face turned red from the slap. She lay on the ground, like a fish on a chopping board, at the mercy of others.
"Not hitting hard enough." Dennis seemed dissatisfied with Abbie's strength.
At that moment, a voice called out, "Dennis?"
Then another voice followed, "Mr. Medici?"
It was Abella and Louie. Hearing from Beckett that Dennis was in the basement dealing with Lola, they rushed over.
"Abella, why are you here? It's dirty and smelly here. Go upstairs and wait for me. I'll peel grapes for you later." Dennis's doting on Abella brought a bitter smile to Lola's face.
Once upon a time, Dennis treated her the same way, but later, finding out she wasn't his real sister led to this.
Did that mean if Abella ever made a mistake or wasn't his real sister, she'd face the same fate?
"I'm here to watch the show." Abella's sudden words stunned everyone.
"Carry on." Abella had no intention of pleading for Lola. She stood at the door, coldly watching everything.
Louie looked at Abella with admiration, thinking she was still so unique.
Lola was furious. If Abella had pretended to plead for her, she wouldn't be so detestable.
"Then I'll teach her a good lesson for you." Dennis patted Abella's head and looked at Louie. "You do it. Abbie's too weak."
Abbie was on the verge of tears. She had used all her strength, but it still didn't satisfy Dennis.
Louie, used to hitting people, had a decent amount of force.
Seeing that Dennis truly had no regard for Lola, Louie wondered if Lola had done something unforgivable.
Could she have been involved in the kidnapping at the abandoned building? Did she want to kill Abella?
"Not moving yet?" Dennis's words prompted Louie to step forward and start hitting Lola.
Just a few slaps in, Lola's mouth bled, her ears rang, and she saw stars.
Louie didn't hold back. Lola's face was bruised and swollen, and she soon passed out.
"Mr. Medici, she's fainted."
So weak, he had only hit her a dozen times.
"Isn't there ice water in the fountain outside? Get some and wake her up." Dennis showed no mercy.
Outside, in the freezing cold, the fountain water had turned to slush. Abbie brought a bucket into the main building, and as she took the elevator to the basement, Kimberly saw her but said nothing, as if she hadn't seen anything.
When the ice water was poured on Lola, she instinctively shivered, screamed, and woke up, trembling.
"Continue." Dennis's voice was devoid of emotion.
Louie hit her another dozen times. Lola was numb, the slaps felt distant, the crisp sound fading. In a daze, she seemed to see a white mist, with Maria faintly visible. Was she dying? Was that why she saw Maria? Was it an illusion or real?
Abbie saw Lola's slightly open mouth, her empty eyes staring at the ceiling, barely alive, hanging by a thread, seemingly about to die.
She timidly spoke, "Mr. Potts, you've already exceeded twenty slaps."
"Have I?" Louie stopped, looking at Lola's numb expression. "Sorry, hit too many."
Slowly, tears of resentment and shame filled Lola's eyes, as if she had come back to life, with a hint of vitality.
"Abella is my sister. From now on, stay away from her! If you dare bother her again, I'll make you wish you were dead. Remember that." Dennis snapped.
