Chapter 651 The Funeral

"Yes, Mr. Steven Medici," Maria said, lowering her head. She didn't want to argue.

"Lola's always listened to you. How you guide her next is up to you," Steven said.

"I'll guide her well, Mr. Steven Medici."

Steven was about to leave but stopped. "Abella is my sister."

Maria felt uneasy.

"Don't cause her any trouble," Steven added.

"Yes."

Maria didn't expect that. Watching Steven leave, she felt even angrier.

Just thinking about making Lola apologize to Abella tomorrow made her heart ache with anger.

Early the next morning, Abella found a message from Clara's mom, Sharon.

Sharon: [Abella, thank you for trying to save Clara. Today is her funeral. Will you come?]

Abella: [I will.]

Sharon: [Clara liked you a lot. She'd be happy to have you there.]

Abella wanted to say "my condolences," but it felt inadequate.

Abella: [I'll be there soon.]

Clara's funeral was at the Wren family cemetery.

The funeral was grand, with many attendees.

When Abella and Phillipe arrived, they saw a sea of mourners in black, showing the Wren family's connections.

Outside the cemetery, there were many wreaths.

The Wrens were crying, each lost in their grief.

Phillipe and Abella presented a wreath to Clara's parents.

They were striking in appearance, and together, even more so.

Abella looked at Clara's portrait and remembered her cheerful demeanor. She felt very sad, and the Wrens' crying made her relive the pain of losing Madam.

"Phillipe, thank you for coming," Zephyr said, hugging Phillipe, tears streaming down his face.

"My condolences," Phillipe said, patting his back.

Zephyr cried harder. Losing a daughter was devastating.

"If you keep this up, Clara will worry," Abella said, hugging Sharon. "Before Clara left, she was most worried about you."

Sharon cried even more. "I know, but I can't calm down. Abella, she was my only daughter."

Her crying made the other Wrens even sadder.

"I know, I understand," Abella said, patting Sharon's back. She had felt this same despair, like sinking into the deep sea with no way out.

"I miss her so much. I wish she could talk to me again. She was my only daughter, from a baby to a graceful girl. I imagined so much for her future, but never this," Sharon's sorrowful cries made everyone around tear up.

No one expected a girl with such promise to die so suddenly.

A commotion arose in the crowd. Sharon looked up and saw Winston, in a black suit with red-rimmed eyes, walking in.

Sharon got agitated. "Why are you here? The Wren family didn't invite you. Get out!"

"Mrs. Wren," Abella tried to speak up for Winston.

But Sharon cut her off, "You saved Clara, and she liked you. I have no issue with you being here, but he is not welcome! Someone, get him out."

"Mrs. Wren, I want to pay my respects to Clara," Winston said. He knew Zephyr and Sharon hated him, but he had to come.

Clara died saving Nicole's adoptive parents. If he didn't come, how could he live with himself?

"Get out!" Zephyr, with red-rimmed eyes, pushed Winston. "You're not welcome here. You know why Clara is lying here! Get out."

"Take your things and get out," Zephyr threw the wreath Winston had brought.

A cold wind howled, and snowflakes began to fall.

Sharon looked up at the snow, her eyes even redder. Clara had loved snow.

"Clara would want Winston here," Abella said. "Mr. Wren, Mrs. Wren, please let him pay his respects."

Zephyr and Sharon cried uncontrollably.

Winston nodded in gratitude and walked towards the portrait.

Clara's bright smile and radiant eyes were still vivid in his mind, but she had endured so much pain.

Tears welled up in Winston's eyes. "Clara, thank you for saving Nicole's adoptive parents. I will avenge you and find the mastermind behind this. May you live happily in heaven, amen."
