Chapter 948 Steven Is Back
"Then what about her forehead? How did she get so many wounds? What caused it?" Henry's voice was thick with pain.
"Her forehead had a lot of glass shards. It doesn't look like they were just from flying debris. It seems like she hit her head on purpose..." The doctor replied.
Henry was in disbelief. "She did this to herself?"
"If she had accidentally fallen face-first, the wounds wouldn't be this deep or widespread. It looks like she kept hitting her head, forcing the glass shards deeper into her skin. Some wounds seem like she tried to pick the glass out with her fingers, which only made the infection worse. Even if she survives, some of these wounds might never fully heal. Mr. Hall, you need to be prepared for the possibility of permanent scars, and these scars can't be removed with laser treatment."
Henry's heart ached even more, imagining how helpless and in pain she must have been.
Lola always cared about her appearance. Whether she lived or died, she couldn't be left with scars.
"Also, if there are glass shards in her knees that have been there for a long time, even if we remove them surgically, it might affect her ability to walk in the future."
The doctor hadn't even finished speaking when he saw Henry's shocked expression. "What did you say?"
Even if Lola survives, she might walk with a limp. Or worse, be confined to a wheelchair for life.
"Is it that serious?" Henry asked, struggling to believe it.
"We need to do a full examination at the hospital to be sure." The doctor couldn't give a definitive diagnosis yet.
Although the RV had many medical supplies, it wasn't as equipped as a hospital. All they could do was treat her wounds and try to keep her alive.
Henry wanted to hold Lola's hand, but then he noticed her palms and the backs of her hands were a bloody mess, with some glass shards still embedded in the flesh, glinting under the light.
How did her hands get so badly injured?
Was it from falling into the glass shards, or...?
The doctor cut open her clothes and found her body covered in bruises. "It looks like she was beaten with a stick."
Her shoulders, arms, legs, chest, and back were all covered in marks...
Henry's tears fell again, unable to believe what she had gone through.
How desperate she must have felt.
At Long Island Manor, Kimberly ordered all of Lola's belongings to be cleared out, leaving nothing behind.
She even called a renovation team to come the next morning, planning to repaint Lola's room, the closet, and even the basement, changing everything.
Everyone knew Kimberly wanted to erase all traces of Lola from the house.
"Get rid of all the flowers she liked in the garden."
With that command, several servants began digging up the precious plants Lola had once cherished, which Kimberly had imported at great expense.
But now everything had changed.
Kimberly returned to her bedroom and looked up at the crystal chandelier. It was a light she and Lola had picked out together years ago. Lola had loved it, saying it matched her room's style and even wanted to buy it for them.
Although Kimberly hadn't let her pay for it, seeing the light always reminded her of their shopping trips together.
"Take this light down too."
The servants hadn't expected Kimberly to want the chandelier removed as well.
They quickly took it down and replaced it with an old one from the storage room, planning to install a new one later.
Kimberly looked around the master bedroom, now devoid of any trace of Lola.
After a while, Steven arrived at the gate in his assistant's car, noticing the trash bins filled with Lola's belongings.
Thinking about everything that had happened at the abandoned building, he could understand his family's anger and heartbreak.
He had planned to fly back the night the surveillance footage was exposed, but urgent matters abroad had kept him there, and now three days had passed.
The lights in Long Island Manor were mostly off, indicating everyone had gone to bed.
The guard at the gate saw him and quickly opened it. "Mr. Medici, you're back?"
"Yeah," Steven nodded. "Thanks for holding down the fort."
"No problem," The guard smiled, bowing as Steven entered.
Steven saw the servants packing up the dug-up plants, ready to throw them away.
These were the flowers Lola had loved.
"Mr. Medici."
"Good evening, Mr. Medici."
"Mr. Medici, you're back?"
Steven nodded to each of them. "Is Abella asleep?"
"At this hour, she should be in her room."
Whether she was asleep or not, they didn't know.
"And Lola?" Steven asked.
The servant bowed and replied, "Mr. Hall took her back."
Steven was surprised his parents had handed Lola over to Henry.
"Mr. Hall brought Jacob here and exchanged him for Lola with Mr. Beckett Medici and Mrs. Kimberly Medici," The servant added quickly. "Lola had less than half an hour to live..."
Steven understood and nodded. "You all should get some rest."
"Yes, Mr. Medici."
Steven entered the house, finding the living room empty and cold.
He took out his phone, instructing the guards to stay alert in case Jacob's men tried to rescue him.
"Don't worry, Mr. Medici. Mr. Beckett Medici and Mrs. Kimberly Medici have already instructed us to keep watch in shifts. If anything happens, we'll notify them and you immediately."
"Thanks," Steven replied, heading upstairs. He saw that Abella's light was off, and Lola's room was empty, as if she had never been there.
He went to his own room, planning to talk to Abella in the morning.
In his room, he still had things Lola had given him, like the drawings she had made for him when they were kids.
