Chapter 726 Can It Be Corrected?

"Look, even if you haven't busted your butt trying to get close to them, just based on the last eighteen years, they wouldn't treat you like crap. Seriously, since I came back, has your life gone downhill?"

"No, but it's not as good as yours," Lola snapped, her voice full of anger. "Mom, Dad, Steve, Ethan, Winston, Dennis, Blake, Grandpa, Grandma—do they give you the same stuff they give me?"

"Haven't they given you enough over these eighteen years?" Abella's eyes went cold, realizing Lola was just being greedy.

"Let's be real, if they gave you a purse and gave me the same one, I'd be cool with it. But they give you hundreds of custom limited-edition things! They give you an unlimited credit card! They let you run the company and make all the calls. They don't even take me to parties! It's so obvious they favor you, and you still say they treat me like family?"

Abella knew exactly what party she was talking about. "Not taking you is for your own good."

Lola sneered. "Then why do they take you? Are they not good to you?"

"I have my uses."

"So, you're saying I'm useless and just drag them down?"

"You could see it that way."

Lola was so mad she laughed. "Abella, you know what I hate about you? I hate your self-righteous, superior attitude! It's like only you can do things right, and compared to you, I'm just useless!"

"I just want to stay in this family, I don't want to leave them." Lola's voice cracked, tears welling up. "Why is it so hard, why is it so hard!"

Abella looked at her meltdown and couldn't help but ask, "What's so hard? Is someone kicking you out? Who treats you like you're useless?"

Lola lifted her gaze, staring blankly at her.

"Does anyone look down on you because I know medicine and you don't? Has anyone stopped you from going to school because you weren't top of the class? When everyone visits me at school, do they not visit you? Isn't this enough? What more do you want? Do you want a Phillipe just because I have one?"

Lola's tears suddenly stopped, stunned.

"Even if I hadn't come back to this family, Phillipe wouldn't like you. That night he went to see you to break off the engagement."

Lola's eyes went completely blank. 'Break off the engagement?'

"He said it himself," Abella looked into Lola's eyes and said, "It's not that I came and took your man. What's yours is yours, and no one can take it away. What's not yours will leave you sooner or later."

Lola couldn't believe it. That night, Phillipe brought so many things to the Medici family to break off the engagement with her.

'Then why does he later change his story and say he comes to see his fiancée? Could it be that he has already fallen in love with Abella at first sight?' Thinking this, Lola felt even more unwilling. She looked up and scrutinized Abella. 'What is so good about her? Why does Phillipe like her, why do Mom and Dad like her, why do Grandpa and Grandma like her, and even my brothers like her? Is it just because of blood ties and her abilities?'

At this moment, Abella's phone vibrated. It was Phillipe calling.

She answered, hearing Phillipe's pleasant voice from the other end. "Is your grandfather feeling better?"

"There was an accident."

Lola's face went pale, worried Abella would trash-talk her to Phillipe.

"Is he okay? I'm just outside, I can take him to the hospital," Phillipe said, sounding genuinely concerned.

"No need, I'll have Uncle Caleb take him later. Are you here?" Abella replied softly, "Wait for me a bit."

"Okay."

Abella put her phone away, gave Lola a quick glance, and was about to leave.

"Abella!" Lola suddenly called out, unable to stop herself, "If there was no Phillipe, would you be friends with me?"

Abella stopped and looked at her coldly. "You should ask yourself, from the first day I came back to this family, did you ever think about being friends with me?"

From the start, Lola had been nothing but hostile.

And it only got worse over time.

Abella added, "How many times have you schemed behind my back? I didn't bother with you. First, I thought it was a waste of time. Second, I looked down on your methods. Third, my life is more than just these petty dramas. Why waste your time on me? Find something you're passionate about, love someone who truly loves you, and make yourself better. Isn't that better than scheming and competing here?"

Lola stood there, staring blankly at her as she walked away, finally getting why everyone liked Abella.

Even though she hated Abella so much, at this moment, she didn't seem to hate her as much.

After Abella left the room, Bonnie came out from the corner, having heard the whole conversation. She didn't expect the seemingly sunny and cheerful Lola to have so many hidden thoughts.

It seemed she was just scared of not being able to stay in this family, so she made mistakes.

But Abella's magnanimity and perspective made Bonnie look at her with new respect and a better impression.

Bonnie walked to the door, leaning lightly against the frame, and called out, "Lola."

Lola was still in a daze. Seeing Bonnie appear, she quickly said, "Aunt Bonnie, why are you here?"

"I happened to pass by and heard your conversation."

Lola's face instantly changed. "Aunt Bonnie, let me explain."

"I already get it. Abella is right, no one in this family treats you like an outsider, but you gotta stop scheming behind people's backs." Although Bonnie didn't know exactly what schemes Lola had been up to, Abella's words indicated Lola had caused plenty of trouble before.

"Aunt Bonnie, I was immature before, I won't do it again." Lola was very afraid of leaving a bad impression on Bonnie.

"Just tell me, can you change?" Bonnie looked at her seriously. "Look into my eyes and say it."

Lola bit her lower lip and nodded. "I can."

"Then I'll believe you this time," Bonnie said firmly, "Having a generous sister like Abella, you should feel lucky. If it were someone with a strong sense of jealousy, you would have been kicked out of the Medici family long ago."

Lola's eyes dimmed again.

"Praising her doesn't make you uncomfortable?"

Lola quickly shook her head.

"Everyone likes her because she's honest, brave, kind, smart, wise, and calm, with abilities but without showing off," Bonnie said, then looked at Lola, "But you, when did you become so sensitive?"
