Chapter 532 The Best Candidate

Daisy reminded her, "Mr. Lott's about to retire, and his connections won't be as strong. Abella's already taken out some hostile forces. Right now, 30-40% of them are stuck in the mess and can't even protect themselves, another 30-40% are too busy with their own stuff, and the last 10-20% aren't worth worrying about. Once Alpin retires, he can enjoy his golden years in peace."

So that's how it was.

Abella's maneuvers had indirectly paved the way for Alpin, keeping his slate clean and his mind at ease.

"Does that mean Abella's in danger?" Camila's first thought was for Abella's safety. With a significant event involving a multitude of individuals, Abella couldn't guarantee she wouldn't get entangled in the mess.

"No, I have to get Mom and Dad to help in secret. I can't let anything happen to Abella."

Ethan only had this one sister, and he valued her more than anything. Besides, Camila had a real soft spot for Abella.

"Ms. Lott, don't worry. Mr. Lott has his own plans."

Daisy didn't say if they'd help or not, but Camila got the hint.

"With a future sister-in-law like Abella, your future's bound to be bright." Daisy remarked with her trademark kind smile. Her wisdom shone through, conveying the happiness that Alpin and the others derived from Abella, thereby reflecting positively on Ethan.

Camila's heart settled, her nerves calming.

Meanwhile, in a dimly lit room, a secretary knocked and entered, reporting to the person inside, "Sir, those old folks had clearly retired, but now they're getting involved again. We don't even know what Abella's background is, why so many people are supporting her."

She was just a girl coming of age, but around Triangle City, they whispered that she was more than just another up-and-comer. Rumors had it she had her hands in both The A Gang and The C Gang, a feat that turned heads in the underworld.

Moreover, domestically, several highly respected elders were using all their connections to protect her, and even several major families were in cahoots with her, inculding the Medici family, the Bourbons and the Turners. Among them, Steven Medici was a cold-hearted operator, and Phillipe Bourbons struck fear into anyone crossing his path.

Then there was Violet, the head honcho of the Turners, swooping in like a protective mama bear. She initially wanted to claim Abella as her goddaughter, but the girl, headstrong as ever, had turned her down. Violet settled for the role of a doting aunt instead, showering Abella with affection.

"Now several families are acting together, making it very difficult for us to move against her," the secretary said in distress, "especially in the country."

"You suggesting we sit back and let this young girl wreck everything, screw up our future?" The mysterious man's voice, steady as a ticking time bomb, carried a weight that made the air heavy with anticipation, a silent threat lurking close.

The secretary, feeling the chill of impending danger, wiped off beads of sweat trickling down his forehead, voice quivering. "I will find a way to cause trouble for Abella and make her pay the price!"

"Just make her pay a little price?" The man seemed dissatisfied with this punishment.

The secretary, terrified, added, "I'll make sure she dies without a trace!"

"Aren't those people protecting her?" The man suggested, "Take them down one by one, and let's see who dares to help her afterward."

Messing with his career was one thing, but daring to touch his interests?

"She's too young and naive, seeing the world through rose-colored glasses. She thinks she can wipe out all evil and bring peace just like that."

The man laughed, shaking his head as if mocking Abella's ignorance.

"Justice is just a tiny part of this world; the real darkness is hidden deep. She thinks exposing it will change everything... she's just digging her own grave."

"Exactly!" the secretary chimed in. "She's too young, thinking she can act recklessly with protection, not knowing how many people will be dragged down. Let reality teach them a lesson, show them who really runs this world!"

In the lab, Abella isolated eighty-one types of toxins from Nicole's blood. The toxins were so potent that a mouse died instantly after just a lick, without even having time to take the antidote.

Abella had just developed a few antidote combinations, unsure if they would help with Nicole's poison. She could only analyze systematically and then mix these antidotes with the toxins for the mouse to ingest.

After three busy days, she finally saw results. The mouse, after eating the poisoned food with the detox pill, didn't die instantly or convulse in pain but was lively and energetic as if nothing had happened.

Finally, there was hope.

Abella's eyes softened. If the mouse remained healthy and vigorous, it would mean the detox pill could neutralize the poison in Nicole's body.

Although she felt it wouldn't be that easy, at least this attempt was in the right direction. The results of these few days' hard work were enough to make her feel gratified.

Her phone vibrated at this moment. Seeing the caller ID was Winston, she quickly answered.

"Winston, what's up?"

"Abella, Nicole's poison is acting up again. She's in a lot of pain, like that day at the castle. Can I give her the two pills you gave me?"

Abella had previously said not to give her those two pills unless absolutely necessary. Because Nicole's body was very weak and might not withstand the strong effects of the medicine.

"Give her half a pill and observe. If anything's wrong, call me again," Abella instructed.

"OK."

Winston quickly complied.

Moments later, Abella's phone vibrated again. She thought it was Winston calling back, but it turned out to be Rodolfo.

"My dear, you've been causing quite a stir lately. It's like a show, one act after another, so exciting." Rodolfo's cheerful voice came through the phone.

Abella couldn't help but smile. "Rodolfo, are you calling to laugh at me?"

"Not at all, I am happy, happy that you are young and capable, daring and decisive. This courage, this vision... it shows I didn't train the wrong person. You're the best candidate to inherit my mantle, bar none."

Talking about inheriting again.

Abella hurriedly declined, "I'm very busy, no time."

"There's no one more suitable than you. Oh, by the way, when will you come to the school? Those experiments aren't finished yet. Also, there are upcoming competitions among top universities. Medical University has fallen behind too much. You're a top scorer; if you can compete and win a trophy, more outstanding students will apply to Medical University in the future."
