Chapter 742 Ignored Again

Whitney saw Lola about to bounce and quickly asked, "Hey, that gold card yours?"

Lola shot back with a sour face, "What's it to you?"

"I know that card. There's only one in all of Verdania, and it ain't yours."

Lola gave Whitney another look, realizing she didn't recognize her, and snapped, "None of your business!"

Whitney watched her strut off in her high heels, almost sure the card wasn't hers.

She thought, 'Could that gold card really be my son's? When did he get a girlfriend? And such a rude, trashy one at that.'

She had to get to the bottom of this. No way was she letting someone so uncouth marry into the Hall family, especially now when things were so shaky. If this girl was really her son's girlfriend, she'd be the first to object!

"Clifton, take me to Henry's place."

Meanwhile, after Lola finished shopping and got home, Vanessa's plane landed. The servants rushed to greet her, and Lola wasn't about to miss out. She dressed up and ran to get close to Vanessa.

Abella had been out running errands. When she got back, she saw Lola holding Vanessa's hand, sweetly asking, "Grandma, what do you think of this brooch? It stands for peace and happiness. I bought it for you with my prize money. Do you like it?"

"This brand is my favorite, isn't it? This brooch must've cost a fortune. Lola, did you win first place in another competition?" Vanessa was touched, thinking Lola was always so thoughtful, never forgetting her family.

"It was from competitions a while back, prize money from a bunch of events."

Abella rolled her eyes. 'What kind of competition racks up enough cash for a KCY brooch? Lola's lying through her teeth.'

Just as she was about to walk in, she heard Lola say, "Aimee, this is for you!"

Aimee was a servant close to James and someone Vanessa trusted. She was sharp.

But ever since Lola posted on Stories about the gifts she got from everyone, including a calligraphy piece from Master Magnolia, she mentioned every gift-giver's name, including her parents and brother, but left out Abella.

So Aimee had a bad impression of her.

Lola accepted Abella's gift but only wanted to show off the value of the gifts, not letting others know her true relationship with Abella, which made Aimee feel uneasy.

"Ms. Lola Medici, I appreciate the thought, but this bracelet is too valuable. I wouldn't feel right accepting it. Please take it back." Aimee declined politely.

"What? You don't like the style? Or..." Lola knew Aimee was close to Abella. 'Is she refusing to accept it to show loyalty? Does she only recognize Abella as her master?'

Thinking this, Lola felt a bit uncomfortable. 'Could Abella have been bribing her a lot?'

"It's not about the style. Mrs. Harris, you know me best. Could you say something?" Aimee turned to Vanessa for help.

Vanessa smiled. "You know how Aimee is. If you give her something that pricey, she'll feel guilty and won't sleep. Just take it back. Aimee knows you mean well, and that's enough."

Lola saw Aimee keeping her eyes down, not even looking at her, and felt a surge of anger. 'She's just a servant, and she doesn't even appreciate the gesture. Aimee really thinks too highly of herself.'

Just then, an excited voice called out, "Vanessa!"

David, having heard Vanessa had finally arrived, hobbled over with a cane, eager to walk faster.

A servant pushed a wheelchair behind him, explaining with a smile, "Mr. Harris refused to sit in the wheelchair, saying it would affect his image."

Standing at the door, Abella couldn't help but laugh. 'Does he think hobbling with a cane doesn't affect his image?'

Vanessa hurriedly went up to support him. "What happened to you?"

"I accidentally fell, it's nothing, nothing." David pulled Vanessa into his arms. "You're finally here. How long has it been since we last saw each other? I can't believe you still look so good, even more beautiful than the flowers outside."

Several servants chuckled, amused by David's words.

Vanessa couldn't help but give him a light slap. "So many people are listening, aren't you embarrassed? My face is all wrinkled, and you're comparing me to flowers."

As she spoke, she instinctively touched her face.

"You look great! Even better than when you married me," David gave her a solemn kiss on the forehead and said, "From now on, you shouldn't leave. It's my turn to take care of you."

"You, take care of me?" Vanessa looked at him with his cane and teased, "And what about James?"

David replied, "He's grown up. We're too old to manage him. Once I'm fully recovered, we won't live in Caleb or James' houses. We'll go back to living our own lives like before!"

Seeing the two of them chatting away, eager to share every moment of the past few months, Abella's eyes softened, once again feeling the harmony and happiness of family.

After they finished catching up, Abella finally said, "Grandpa, Grandma."

"Abella?" Vanessa, seeing Abella, immediately pushed David aside and gave Abella a big hug.

Abella smiled. "Have you been feeling better lately?"

"I've been taking the medicine you prescribed on time. I feel great, no more pain or illness." Vanessa released the hug and happily looked at Abella. "Did you just get back? Where did you go earlier?"

"I had some errands to run."

Because it was dangerous, Abella didn't explain in detail, only saying, "Seeing you and Grandpa reunited makes me genuinely happy."

"It's all thanks to you," David praised Abella again, completely forgetting that Lola was still there.

Lola noticed that ever since Abella appeared, her grandparents had been doting on her, talking non-stop, and their attitude was even warmer than towards her.

In contrast, she seemed so insignificant.

She had gone to greet Vanessa at the tarmac, but Vanessa hadn't even given her a hug. She had spent nearly an hour trying to please Vanessa.

But it still couldn't compare to the bond of blood!

David was even worse. Since he appeared, he hadn't even greeted Lola, as if he didn't notice her existence at all.
