Chapter 469 Confusion
"Winston, please, forget you heard anything!" Sam pleaded with clasped hands, "If you want to know, wait for the right time to ask our boss, but don't mention my name now! I'll be in big trouble!"
Winston didn't want to press him, simply saying, "Tell me, and I'll keep it a secret and won't say a word to Abella."
"Winston, there are things even our boss doesn't know, please, let it go,"
Sam implored.
If their boss found out he was leaking information again, he'd surely be transferred to Triangle City, and he wouldn't be able to protect their boss at all times! With his subordinates being so weak, he had to ensure their boss's safety at this critical moment.
Just then, Abella appeared. "What are you guys talking about?" Seeing Sam's pleading gesture, Abella was puzzled. "What is it that you're asking Winston for?" she asked.
"Boss, you're here," Sam felt doomed and quickly lied, "Winston wants to introduce me to someone, this beauty here..." He took out the picture and waved it around. "I was just asking Winston for her contact information."
Abella was speechless. How could they still be thinking about such things at a time like this?
She coldly said, "Go away."
Sam breathed a sigh of relief, thankful that their boss didn't suspect anything.
"The test results are out, and the blood in the living room and yard matches that of the Medici couple," Abella announced.
As soon as Abella finished speaking, Winston's attention shifted instantly. "You mean Nicole's parents were injured?" he asked.
"Yes," Abella explained, "A villager mentioned that a few months ago, around two or three in the morning, a group of people went to Nicole's house. They were walking around in the yard in the rain. I think they were looking for Nicole and accidentally alarmed her parents, who got hurt in the altercation."
Abella paused and continued her analysis, "The villager said that for four or five days after those people appeared, the door of the Medici family's house was never opened. The bloodstains seemed to have originated in the living room, and then they moved to the yard. So I guess that during those days, the injured Medici couple might have been taken away by those people. It's not clear where they went or what they did."
According to the villager's speculation, the Medici couple returned four or five days later, and shortly after their return, they went out to look for Nicole. Therefore, their disappearance that night is also the key to solving the mystery.
"Has the powder been tested?" Winston asked Abella with a heavy heart.
Abella had just said that the powder contained a highly toxic substance.
"In addition to the certain Grass, there are 15 other types of medicine, each toxic in nature," Abella said.
"What about the combination?"
"It's even more toxic," Abella said in a low voice, "One of the lab mice died immediately after taking it."
There was not even enough time to rescue them.
Winston's heart was in his throat. "Are you saying that Nicole might have taken the poison?" he asked.
She disappeared for a year because she was forced to take a deadly poison and was thrown away. So, no one could find her. Because she was no longer in this world? Thinking this, Winston's heart ached so much that he could hardly breathe.
"Not necessarily," Abella analyzed, "What if she used the medicine on someone else?"
"What do you mean?" Winston needed help understanding.
"So many people were looking for her. It's also possible that she used the medicine for self-defense, so she put it in a bottle of vitamin C, which looks very old; it should have been used for a long time."
"Boss, according to your theory, how many people did Mrs. Winston poison with this medicine?" Sam asked.
Abella gave him a look, and Sam immediately shut up.
"Nicole is defenseless; this medicine may be really used for self-defense," Winston speculated. "Besides drugging, did she have any other way to protect herself? She's so weak; she probably doesn't."
"Not necessarily." Abella overturned his guess again. "Those four people said that Nicole is a traitor; if Nicole is also one of them, then her skills are likely to be similar to theirs. It should not be associated with 'defenseless.' However, we still need to continue the investigation to find out whether she had any skills."
"Impossible." Winston recalled every bit of his time with Nicole, and he couldn't see that she was a skilled person, probably even afraid of cockroaches.
"We can only continue to investigate." Abella looked at the time. "Winston, it's getting late, it's almost eleven, let's go home first. It's too late, and our parents will worry. They have already called me several times just now; I don't know if they called you."
Winston took out his phone and saw that he hadn't received a single call.
"There's no use worrying now; let's go," Winston agreed.
Seeing that Abella had been busy all day, Winston didn't want to trouble her any more, so he nodded and drove her home.
On the way, Winston heard Abella's stomach growl. He realized something. "Abella, are you hungry? Did you have dinner?" he asked.
"I did," Abella lied.
Her stomach growled again, and Winston glanced at her. "You're lying to me again. Are you hungry because you haven't eaten all day to catch those people?"
"I have; I had lunch."
"Then you didn't eat at night." Winston felt even more guilty. "I will feel sorry for you, no matter what. You have to take care of yourself first."
"I'm not hungry."
As soon as Abella finished speaking, her stomach protested again.
Winston felt both distressed and amused.
"What do you want to eat? I'm hungry, too. Let's buy some to enjoy at home," Winston said.
"Okay." Abella thought for a moment and blurted out, "Just dessert." It's too late to eat something that might cause indigestion. There are other things to do next; it would be bad if you get a stomachache.
"Okay, I know a place that makes great desserts, specializing in late-night snacks; we'll buy more to take home later."
"Okay."
Long Island Manor.
Lola looked at the time. It was already eleven thirty. Why hasn't Winston come back yet? There was no movement downstairs.
She sat in front of the dressing table, waiting, eager to know where Winston and Abella had gone! Why hadn't they come back for so long?
It wasn't until the sound of a sports car came from outside the villa that she looked out the window and saw Winston's car!
Winston was finally back!
Abella had occupied Winston till so late. Was she worried that if they came back too early, Winston would still have time to accompany Lola?
