Chapter 676 Her Grandfather Was Poisoned

Aurelia's boyfriend, hearing the commotion, scooped her up and bolted.

Abella grabbed her backpack and dipped out of the crowd. Caleb leaned in, "You good?"

"They ain't got nothin' on me," Abella shot back, eyes sharp. "Uncle Caleb, any clue who they are?"

"Nope, could be my enemies."

"Then we gotta dig deep."

Caleb was taken aback by how chill Abella was. 'What kind of guts and grit does it take to stay this cool? What’s she been through, and who’s trained her to be this badass?'

"My bad. I thought we could just have a chill meal, didn't bring any backup." He felt bad she didn't get to eat properly.

Thinking about how she barely ate, guilt gnawed at him. "I'll take you to another spot."

"Nah, I'll just grab something simple at home."

Too bad about the dishes they missed—Provençal stew, red wine-braised beef, pan-seared foie gras, and Marseille fish soup.

She didn't get to taste any of it.

"I'll have someone whip it up." Caleb called his home chef, ordering them to make the best dishes ASAP so Abella could feast.

On the way back, Abella suddenly remembered, "Uncle Caleb, I left something at the hospital. Are we passing by? I need to grab it."

"What'd you forget? I'll get it."

"I should go myself, and check on Grandpa while I'm at it."

That medical kit was a gift from Phillipe. She felt uneasy without it.

Caleb got it—medical pros like her needed their gear on them, or they'd feel off.

He drove to the hospital entrance. "I'll go up with you."

"No need, you wait here."

"Be quick."

"Got it."

Abella hopped out and texted her crew, telling them to find out who was at the restaurant before the blackout—someone had to have messed with the chandelier.

Meanwhile, Caleb called his guys from the car. "Check if those folks have been acting up."

The person on the other end asked, "Mr. Harris, something go down? You alright?"

"Have you ever seen me not alright?"

"True."

"Tonight, Abella and I were at the hilltop restaurant, and some group came at us," Caleb explained.

The person speculated, "Were they after you? But seeing Ms. Medici's skills, they bailed quick."

Caleb added, "They got stabbed up and can't be far. Track 'em down, catch 'em, and grill 'em."

"Yes, Mr. Harris."

After hanging up, Caleb stared ahead, eyes darkening.

Abella kept instructing her team, "Those guys are hurt bad and can't be far. Take some men and nab 'em. We need answers."

"Yes, Ms. Medici."

Abella entered the hospital, went to the surgery floor, grabbed her medical kit from the locker room, and then took the elevator to the VIP floor to check on her grandpa.

As soon as the elevator doors slid open, Abella felt something was off.

The whole hallway was creepily quiet, with a weird smell lingering in the air.

She quickly pulled out a medicinal candy from her bag, unwrapped it, and popped the pill before sneaking forward.

Several nurses at the reception desk were slumped over, looking like they were out cold.

Abella reached her grandpa's room and, through the small window, saw someone injecting something into his arm.

She kicked the door open and lunged at the person.

The intruder reacted fast, countering her moves.

In the dim moonlight, Abella saw it was Gregory.

Gregory didn't expect Abella to show up and catch him red-handed.

"Since you're here, you can die with your grandpa!" Gregory snarled, whipping out a small knife and charging at her.

Abella dodged easily. She never thought Caleb's trusted aide, Gregory, had a hidden agenda!

"Who the hell are you? What did you inject into my grandpa?"

"Ask him in hell!"

Gregory's skills were top-notch. If she hadn't seen it herself, Abella wouldn't believe a guy in his sixties or seventies could be this good.

His strength was unreal for his age. Every strike came with a sharp wind.

Seeing Gregory wouldn't spill, Abella stopped asking and went on the offensive.

In the dim light, the person on the bed barely opened his eyes, vaguely seeing a girl, agile and fierce, fighting off a bad guy.

He tried to focus but suddenly coughed up blood.

"Grandpa." Abella turned and saw her grandpa looked poisoned.

Seeing he couldn't beat Abella, Gregory aimed his knife at the person on the bed.

Abella yanked the bed towards her, and Gregory took the chance to escape through the balcony.

"Grandpa." Abella had no time to chase him. She placed her slender fingers on her grandpa's wrist and felt the poison.

Caleb waited quietly in the car.

As time ticked by, Abella still hadn't come back.

He wanted to call her but realized he didn't have her number.

That was a screw-up; he should've saved her number from the get-go.

He got out and headed towards the hospital's inpatient department. As he reached the VIP floor, several nurses rushed over, crying and trying to explain.

"One at a time, don't rush." Caleb couldn't make out what they were saying.

"We don't know what happened. Suddenly, we felt super sleepy, and when we woke up, we found out your dad was in trouble."

Hearing his dad was in trouble, Caleb bolted to the ward. The door was open, and he saw Abella treating the person on the bed. After a bit, the person on the bed coughed up blood.

Looking around, the room was a mess, clearly showing signs of a fight.

"Abella, what went down?" Caleb asked urgently.

"Uncle Caleb, Gregory, the guy you left to take care of Grandpa, is bad news," Abella explained what had happened.

Caleb couldn't believe Gregory would pull something like this.

He'd always been a loyal servant.

Gregory had been with the family for years, working hard and faithfully.

Why would Gregory harm his dad?

Who put Gregory up to this?
