Chapter 90 Do You Like Phillipe?
At half past eleven in the evening, Abella finally returned to the Long Island Manor.
"Abella, you're back?"
Lola, who was about to go downstairs, saw Abella going upstairs. A gust of wind happened to blow, revealing several kiss marks on Abella's neck, which caught Lola's eye.
Lola's heart felt as if it had been struck by a blunt object, the pain came and disbelief overwhelmed her.
"Abella, why are you back so late? Did you go out with my brother-in-law?"
Although she knew that it was very likely that Abella was with Phillipe, seeing the kiss marks on her neck, Lola still couldn't accept it!
How could Phillipe, such a restrained person, kiss a woman so passionately?
Abella must have seduced him!
"Abella, although we don't have any curfews in our family, you should still come back early. If it gets out, others will say that our family has no discipline."
Abella raised her eyes and asked indifferently, "Do you like Phillipe?"
"I, I don't like him anymore..." Lola denied with a lowered head, unable to meet her gaze.
It's not that she's afraid of Abella, but she's afraid of her complaining to their parents. Even if she likes Phillipe, she couldn't admit it in front of her...
"Then keep your distance from him." Abella's tone was casual, without any hint of anger or joy. "Mind your own business."
"Abella..."
Lola watched Abella go upstairs, unable to help but clench her fists.
Who does Abella think she is? Just a wild girl who grew up in a small place, why does she have the right to speak to her like this?!
Does she really think she's a legitimate wealthy girl?
Is it amazing to go back to the Medici family?
Abella returned to her bedroom and her phone suddenly vibrated. It was Sam calling.
"Boss, S Organization has resolved that matter. Also, you asked me to investigate the cause of the fire that occurred on September 10th eighteen years ago. I have some leads now."
"The janitor Lucy, who picked up Isla to raise as her own, once mentioned to her good friend that it was pouring rain that night. In that era, the roads were bad, and with heavy rain, many flood-prone areas needed water drainage."
"It was around 2 a.m. Lucy and several other janitors were cleaning the streets and the garbage near the manhole covers to help with the drainage. After a short while, they suddenly heard a deafening explosion."
"Then, one explosion followed another. At first, Lucy didn't dare approach, but when it came to rescuing people, she noticed that several unmarked black cars were driving away in the opposite direction."
"...I suspect that the fire is somehow related to those cars."
Abella's gaze deepened. "Who could it be, and for what reason, that they would destroy an entire hospital?"
"I find it weird too... At that time, Lucy was only focused on rescuing people and didn't think much about it. If she had paid attention to the people inside the cars or any distinguishing features, it would have been easier to investigate."
"But right now, Lucy is also in a miserable state."
"Hmm?" Abella raised an eyebrow.
Isn't she Isla's adoptive mother?
Even though Isla has now returned to the Wilson family, after all these years that Lucy spent raising her with great effort, why would she end up in such a pitiful state?
"After Isla returned to her roots, the Wilson family gave Lucy a hundred thousand dollars, but Lucy didn't want it. She only wanted to visit Isla when she had the time. However, Isla doesn't recognize her and doesn't want any involvement with her."
"Lucy has gone to the Wilson family several times, but their servants always chased her away. Now, she is in poor health, has no income, no children, and no one to take care of her. It's quite sad."
"She raised a girl who bites the hand that fed her." Abella knew Isla's true character. To her, her previous identity only brought shame, and she would rather kick Lucy away and climb up the social ladder!
"Another strange point is that several high-ranking officials from the hospital are now missing, and the archives are also gone."
"Now we can only investigate further from Lucy and other rescuers to find any useful clues. However, boss, you need to prepare yourself mentally; results may not come quickly."
"Alright." Abella said this and heard her phone vibrating. She checked it and saw that it was Phillippe calling. "I'll hang up now."
After a phone conversation with Phillippe, Abella took a shower and went to bed.
In her dream, she seemed to return to the Wilson family and saw a little girl holding Mrs. Wilson's hand, tears in her eyes as she asked, "Mommy, when will you come back next time?"
"Abella, will you ever stop? Your father and I are busy all day long. Do you think we have nothing to do? You want us to come see you just because you have a 39-degree fever?"
Little Abella felt a bit aggrieved and whispered, "I didn't..."
"If you didn't tell your grandmother, would she have called us and forced us to come back? Do you know that because of this trip back, the project has fallen through again?"
"Alright, Skylar, she's just a child," Mr. Wilson intervened, trying to smooth things over.
"What do you mean, a child!" Mrs. Wilson angrily retorted, "Have you ever seen a child at such a young age using elders to manipulate us? Look at how biased her mother is towards her! Abella, I'm telling you, the more you act like this, the more I dislike you! Your constant crying is annoying!"
Seeing Mrs. Wilson opening the door, Mr. Wilson hurriedly followed, "Honey, don't be like this... The child doesn't even know that after her grandfather's passing, he left the company for us to manage. There are so many people in the company who want to kick us out and sabotage us behind our backs... The child just wants us around."
"This troublemaker only brings misfortune to us. If she has the ability, she should let us not have to earn money. Besides crying, what else is she good for?"
Little Abella wiped away her tears and seemed to make a decision in her heart. If she became more outstanding and helped the family earn money, would her parents not have to work so hard? Would they start to like her?
With the help of her grandfathers, she excelled in various aspects. It was during that time that she realized the strained relationship between the old lady and Mrs. Wilson due to the issue of equity, which became somewhat unpleasant...
Mrs. Wilson disliked the old lady, and whenever the old lady protected Abella, Mrs. Wilson despised Abella even more...
Mrs. Wilson even saw Abella as a jinx. Every time she came back, there would be mistakes at work, so she increasingly didn't want to return to this home.
Over the years, Mr. Wilson and Mrs. Wilson rarely came home. The bond between them and Abella was very weak.
Mrs. Wilson used to dislike hearing Abella cry. Gradually, Abella became a child who wouldn't cry. In the eyes of others, she even appeared cold and distant, lacking warmth.
Abella didn't know how long she had been dreaming, but she opened her eyes again, and the sky outside was already bright.
Her heart felt empty.
She picked up her phone and checked it. It was only 6:30 am, and there were a few unread WhatsApp messages from Phillipe.
[Abella.]
[Missing you so much that I can't sleep.]
[Wishing I could hold you while sleeping.]
The empty feeling in Abella's heart seemed to have been filled with something. The sense of loss dissipated, replaced by a faint happiness.
