Chapter 523 Owing Two Big Favors
Not long after, Nicole's face started to look off. Winston quickly asked, "What's wrong? You feeling okay?"
"It's nothing."
Seeing her curled up, Winston couldn't help but worry. "Is the poison acting up? I'll get Abella."
"Don't go." Nicole grabbed Winston's hand, her voice strained from the pain. "She's wounded, let her rest... I can handle it."
She had endured it before, anyway.
Countless times, when the poison flared up, she just gritted her teeth and pushed through.
"I can't just stand here and watch... It must hurt a lot." Winston tried to pull his hand away.
But Nicole held on tight, pleading, "Winston, I can do this. I can't run to Abella every time the poison acts up. It's unpredictable; I have to rely on myself."
Seeing her trembling in pain, her voice getting weaker, Winston's heart ached. "How can I help you?"
"Leave me alone for a bit..." Nicole didn't want him to see her like this. "Give me some time."
"You always did this before, hiding your pain so I wouldn't feel bad. This time, let me stay with you."
Winston gently stroked her back and other uninjured areas, trying to make her feel a bit better.
But no matter what he did, the poison acting up inside her wasn't something Nicole could control on her own, nor could it be solved by a few gentle touches.
Nicole's tears started to flow from the excruciating pain, the kind that felt like it was tearing her apart. Her tears were instinctive, a subconscious reaction.
It hurt so much.
The pain twisted her heart, liver, spleen, lungs, and kidneys together, making her wish she were dead.
Seeing her in such agony, Winston remembered a terrible dream he had on a rainy night not long ago. In the dream, Nicole was in the same state, suffering from the poison and crying all the time.
In the dream, he wanted to help her so much, but he was powerless. He could only wipe away her tears and hold her in his arms.
Now, he let go of Nicole's hand and dashed upstairs.
To run faster, he made large movements, pulling at his wounds, but he didn't care.
"Abella, Abella!"
He rushed to the second floor, knocked on Abella's door, and said anxiously, "Are you asleep? Nicole's poison is acting up... Can you help her? She's in so much pain... Abella?"
Soon, the door opened, and Phillipe appeared, carrying Abella.
"Go to the room inside, fourth row, fourth drawer from the left, and get a medical kit," Abella instructed.
Winston's mind was blank, but he still instinctively replied, "OK."
He hurried to get the medical kit.
Phillipe carried Abella downstairs, and Winston followed with the kit, catching up to them. Nicole was already crying in pain on the sofa.
Her tears kept flowing, and she couldn't speak, with veins bulging on her forehead.
"Nicole..." Winston wanted to hold her, to ease her pain.
But Abella said calmly, "Step aside."
Nicole was in excruciating pain; touching her now would only make it worse.
Phillipe put Abella down, and she immediately opened the medical kit and started injecting several major points into Nicole's body.
Nicole's trembling lessened, but her face was still pale, and she looked weak and listless.
Abella continued to inject her and had someone fetch the latest pills she had developed from the lab.
After taking one pill, Nicole seemed to recover a bit. She lifted her weak eyelids and said feebly, "Thank you, Abella."
She was feeling much better now.
At least it didn't hurt as much as before.
"No need to thank me. Just rest more," Abella said as she collected the injection needles. "This pill will keep you pain-free for 12 hours."
That meant the poison wouldn't act up for 12 hours.
She could rest for a while.
"Abella, if this poison keeps acting up unpredictably, what should we do?" Winston asked. "Is there a way to quickly relieve her pain?"
"These two pills, don't use them unless absolutely necessary," Abella handed over a small bottle. "They're very potent, and I'm afraid her weak body won't withstand it."
Winston noted this and held the bottle tightly.
"The plane is waiting outside. Once we're back, I'll run some blood tests."
Right now, Abella didn't know exactly what poison Nicole had, so she could only relieve her pain first and treat it later.
She looked at Nicole on the sofa and said gently, "She used the method of fighting poison with poison before, which made the toxins in her body more complex and harder to treat."
Nicole weakly lifted her eyelids, surprised that Abella knew she had used the method of fighting poison with poison.
"I took some of the powder from the Vitamin C bottle you had and tested it," Abella explained. "That time, I entered your room without permission. I'm sorry."
"I know you were looking for clues for Winston... If it weren't for you, I would have died long ago. So, I should be the one thanking you." Nicole weakly smiled. "Really, thank you, Abella. I owe you two big favors."
Once was when Abella saved her from the drugged men.
The second was when she helped detoxify her three times since yesterday.
"You saved me too. We're family; no need to be polite," Abella said, then looked at Winston. "Can you carry Nicole, or should I have someone do it?"
The plane was waiting outside; it was time to go.
"I can do it," Winston said confidently.
"Then let's go."
As soon as Abella finished speaking, Phillipe picked her up.
"Oh, by the way, I mentioned earlier that Abella is my sister. This is her boyfriend, Phillipe," Winston formally introduced.
Nicole finally noticed the distinguished-looking man next to them. She hadn't paid attention to who was around when she was in such excruciating pain.
Now seeing Phillipe and learning he was Abella's boyfriend and the current richest man, she was surprised. No wonder Winston had said Abella and Phillipe would see this through to the end.
They had the power to do so.
"Hello," Nicole nodded, her pale face showing a hint of warmth.
"Hello, Nicole," Phillipe greeted, then looked down at Abella in his arms. "Everything is ready back home. Let's go."
Waiting for the other shoe to drop.
"OK." Abella nodded.
Winston gently picked up Nicole and asked, "Does it hurt?"
Although Nicole shook her head, her expression quickly showed a flash of pain. Winston felt guilty. "Did I touch your wound? It's all my fault, being so clumsy."
"It's okay." Nicole smiled at him.
Noticing her smile was pale, Winston decided he would make sure she got better nutrition to improve her complexion. She was too thin and light right now.
