Chapter 689 Caught a Few People

The ward was just Abella and Jacques now.

Jacques sneaked a peek at Abella's stunning profile, his heart thumping like crazy. He quickly looked away and stammered, "Ms. Medici, I'm here. You can chill after reading the report."

"I'm not sleepy."

"How about some water then?"

"Not thirsty." Abella flipped to the third page of the report, not even glancing up.

"Want me to order some food?"

"Nope." Abella's voice was all lazy. "Jacques, if you're really that bored, just play games on your phone, but keep it down."

Jacques' face went a bit red, and he nodded quickly.

He wondered how things were going on Caleb's end.

He stole another glance at Abella. In the dim light, her face was so mesmerizing he couldn't look away.

He lost track of time, but eventually, Abella dozed off. Jacques grabbed a spare blanket and was about to cover her when she stirred.

"Ms. Medici, it's cold. I didn't want you to catch a chill," Jacques, having been slapped, quickly explained.

Seeing the blanket in his hand, Abella apologized.

Up close, Jacques could see Abella's flawless face and long lashes. His heart pounded like a drum, and realizing his own impropriety, he quickly said, "It's okay. I'll go stand guard outside."

After handing her the blanket, he hurried to the balcony.

The next morning, Abella heard someone on the phone. She opened her eyes and realized she had fallen asleep at some point, with a fluffy blanket draped over her.

She looked towards the balcony where Jacques was finishing his call and instinctively looked at her.

Their eyes met, and Jacques quickly looked away.

The balcony door opened, letting in the wind and snow from outside.

"Ms. Medici, you're awake? Mr. Harris said Mrs. Harris has safely returned home. No need to stay at the hospital. Shall I take you back?"

"My aunt is back?" Abella got up and said, "Alright, I'll go check on her."

Her aunt had been under control for so long, and she didn't know if she was injured or how serious the injuries were.

Abella checked David's condition on the hospital bed and, seeing nothing unusual, prepared to leave.

As she passed Jacques, Abella could feel the cold radiating from him. She looked up at Jacques. "Did you stay on the balcony all night?"

Jacques didn't expect Abella to notice such a small detail and explained, "It's not appropriate for us to be in the same room. I was afraid Mr. Bourbon might get the wrong idea."

Abella nodded. "Then remember to take some cold medicine when you get back."

"Yes." Jacques sneaked a glance at her back. In truth, being alone with her made his heart race too fast, and he needed to go outside to cool down and calm himself.

Half an hour later, when Abella returned to the manor, Caleb was just coming downstairs. "Abella, thanks for holding down the fort last night. Your aunt's back safe and sound and is resting now. You should get some rest too."

"How was the situation last night?" Abella asked, noticing Caleb's left hand wrapped in bandages.

"It's nothing, just a scratch. As long as your aunt's back, these injuries are no biggie."

Talking about last night's showdown, Caleb summed it up in one line. "The Wolf Clique is history."

Abella got it. "Did my aunt get hurt? I'll go check on her."

"She's fine." Caleb's eyes softened when he mentioned his wife. "Alex just nabbed a bunch of shady folks nearby. They're locked up now. I'm gonna check on them. If they're Alexis' men, they're in for it."

"I'm coming too."

Abella tagged along, and from a distance, she saw Alex standing guard at the basement door.

Seeing Caleb and Abella, Alex immediately greeted them with respect.

"Mr. Harris, Ms. Medici, these guys are the same ones who fought us for the restaurant last time. They were all 'even God would have to step aside for their boss.' If their boss was in a good mood, he might spare us. If not, we'd be toast."

Caleb remembered, 'So it's them.'

Just then, the drugged guy opened his eyes and, hearing Caleb order torture, immediately said, "Where is this? Don't think this little room can hold me. Dare to drug me? Just wait and see how I deal with you."

The familiar voice and tone made Abella push through the crowd. It was Sam!

Seeing her, Sam was also stunned. "Ms. Medici, you came to rescue me so quickly? I knew you wouldn't leave me behind."

Caleb, Alex, and Jacques looked at Abella in shock.

Sensing Caleb's gaze, Alex quickly bowed. "Mr. Harris, I saw them acting suspiciously near the manor. Since you were out last night, I feared they were Alexis' men."

"What suspicious people? If it weren't for Ms. Medici ordering us to guard the manor, do you think I'd want to be out in the cold? Wait, who are you with?" Sam looked closely at Alex and recognized him. "Ms. Medici, he's the silver-masked guy who fought us for the man in black last time. Catch him!"

Abella didn't expect such a coincidence and smiled. "He's one of us."

"What? I'm on the same side as this guy?" Sam was clearly incredulous.

Alex didn't expect that the person who had beaten him and his crew black and blue last time was actually Abella's man.

"Abella, do you have any other identities I don't know about?" Caleb asked with a smile.

Sam was shocked. 'Is the silver-masked guy Caleb's subordinate? This is a big misunderstanding.'

In the end, Sam and his men were released, and Abella confessed her identity as "Boss A" to Caleb.

Caleb was incredulous. "You're Boss A?"

No wonder Abella's skills seemed so familiar last time; they were the same person!

"Mr. Harris, Ms. Medici has been through a lot over the years. She chose to be our leader to protect us from being bullied. Don't think she's not a good person because of her identity. She has done many good deeds in her life," Sam said, "Mr. Harris, we're starving."

"You really treat this place like your own home," Abella teased.

"Ms. Medici's home is our home." Sam laughed.

Caleb laughed heartily. "I'll have the kitchen whip up some food. Alex didn't go easy on you earlier, are you okay?"
