Chapter 664 No Longer Forgiving Maria
Lola was practically on her knees. "Maria's been looking after me for eighteen years. She's like family to me. I can't do this without her. Please, Abella. I swear Maria won't show up in front of you, and she won't be around the main house."
Maria chimed in, "Ms. Abella Medici, I can handle the chores in the other building, take care of the plants, whatever you need, but I won't be in your way."
Lola added, "Abella, I'll do anything you want. Just please."
Abella could see Lola was seriously begging to keep Maria around.
She could say yes and maybe get Lola to behave better.
But with Maria still here, she'd keep backing Lola up behind the scenes.
Even the nicest person can turn bad if they're brainwashed long enough.
So, Maria had to go.
No forgiveness needed.
Abella said coldly, "You're eighteen now; you don't need her anymore."
As Abella was about to leave, Lola grabbed her leg, crying. "It's not about age. Maria and I are like family; we've been together forever."
"Then why don't you move out and live with her?"
Lola looked up, tears streaming, shocked that Abella would even suggest that!
"You can stay, but she can't," Abella said, glancing at Maria.
Lola let go, stunned, until Maria hugged her, crying. "It's okay, Ms. Lola Medici. Just because I'm not here doesn't mean I'm gone forever."
"No, there's gotta be a way." Lola shook her head, tears falling. "I'll talk to Mom and Dad when they get back."
Abella finished packing and opened the door to find Maria standing there.
"Ms. Abella Medici, I'm not here to bother you. I just never really apologized. I was arrogant and rude. I know it's late, but can you forgive me before I go?"
Abella leaned against the door, looking at her lazily. "Did Steven say you need my forgiveness to leave?"
Maria looked up, shocked that Abella knew everything!
"Fine, I forgive you." Abella walked past her and left.
Maria watched her go, sometimes not getting what Abella was thinking.
Abella was in a rush to go abroad, so she didn't waste time on this stuff.
She knocked on the study door, and after Steven said it was okay, she went in.
Abella said, "Steven, Mom and Dad are still at Mr. Wren's and won't be back soon. They gave me Uncle Caleb's address, so I'm heading over now."
Steven stopped the meeting, closed his laptop, and stood up. "Abella, why didn't you tell me about all the crap you went through before?"
Abella thought, 'Did Maria spill everything? No way, that's not her. Who else told Steven? Maybe Lauren?'
Abella replied, "It was just small stuff, not worth dealing with."
If she really wanted to handle it, it would've been easy.
Seeing her being so chill, Steven felt both guilty and proud of her maturity.
Steven was like, "Maria's been here for eighteen years, busting her butt. So, Mom and Dad didn't catch on to her being rude to you. Did she just apologize?"
"Yeah."
"Was she for real?"
"Kind of."
Maria really wanted to stay, so she got all teary and apologized.
But knowing her, she wouldn't change.
"Steven, I gotta go now." Abella checked the time; it was almost time to bounce.
"I'll get someone to take you."
"No need. Mom and Dad set up our pilot to fly me straight to Uncle Caleb's helipad."
"Alright, that makes me feel better."
The Medici family didn't just have drivers; they had pilots too, all super experienced and loyal.
Abella pulled a small gift from her backpack. "Abigail's still at the competition. If all goes well, she should win. I might not be back in time to celebrate. This is a little something for her. If I don't make it back, can you give it to her?"
"Sure." Steven was surprised Abella was so thoughtful, even getting a gift ready.
He hadn't even started thinking about a gift yet.
"Abigail will probably be more excited about your gift, so you should think about what to get her," Abella reminded him, waved, and closed the study door.
Steven, nudged by Abella, sat at his computer, thinking, then opened the search bar and typed: [What gift to give a girlfriend?]
Meanwhile, Beckett and Kimberly got back around 11 PM.
Lola, eyes all puffy from crying, told them what happened, shocking Kimberly.
That was ages ago.
She was admiring her new flowers when a servant told her Lola and Maria had fallen. She rushed to the living room to find Lola with bruises on her back, and Maria wasn't spared either, covered in bruises.
Grace was still around then, insisting Abella had passed that spot without falling, thinking Abella knew there was oil there and avoided it, suspecting Abella wanted to hurt Lola!
Another servant, Bia, also said Abella wanted to harm Lola.
Later, Abella restored the surveillance footage, proving her innocence and kicking Grace and Bia out of the house.
But she never thought Maria was involved!
If Maria hadn't unscrewed the bottle cap and spilled oil on the floor, neither she nor Lola would have been hurt.
"So it was you." Kimberly was fuming. "You tried to hurt my precious daughter, and now you want to stay in this house?"
Beckett, hearing the story, also blew up, "Maria, how could you be so dumb! Abella finally comes back, and as her parents, we should love her more and make up for the past. What's wrong with that?"
Maria kept crying and admitting her mistake, while Lola stood in front of her parents. "Mom, Dad, Maria was just being dumb for a moment. She apologized to Abella and got her forgiveness. Please let Maria stay. She's taken care of me for eighteen years; she deserves some credit!"
"Lola, enough." Kimberly seemed to have made up her mind, not willing to forgive Maria anymore.
