Chapter 703 Can you take me there?
As the sun dipped, Bonnie rapped on Abella's door, hand-delivering her dress.
"Hey, tonight's Grandpa Derek's birthday bash. Your uncle's swamped, so we gotta roll."
Derek was Abella's mom's third brother.
"Here's your dress. We bounce in thirty." Bonnie headed downstairs and slipped into a red gown herself. The silk velvet was cozy, and her chic short hair made her look all classy and stuff. Her earrings sparkled, and her necklace was lit.
When Abella finally came down, she spotted Bonnie looking all graceful from afar.
Bonnie was already a knockout, but with the bling, she looked even more elegant and high-class.
"Ready?" Bonnie heard Abella coming down, turned, and gave her a nod of approval. "Nice, you look awesome."
The dress Bonnie picked for Abella was grand and gorgeous, with a light purple vibe. Abella just threw her hair into a ponytail, giving off a cool and noble look.
Not everyone could rock this style and color, but Abella nailed it.
"The inside of your dress is lined with warm fabric. There's heating in the car and at Grandpa Derek's place, so you won't freeze," Bonnie said softly. "Tonight, if anything goes down, just look out for yourself."
Abella felt something was off about this party and asked, "What about you, Aunt Bonnie?"
"If I wasn't sure, I wouldn't be going." Bonnie smiled, all confident and stunning.
Just then, someone got out of a car and headed to the manor entrance. The security guard recognized her and was shocked. "Ms. Lola Medici, what brings you here?"
"What, I can't come?" Lola was rocking a Chanel tweed suit, looking both classy and gorgeous.
Last night, when she got roughed up, she made sure to protect her face. No visible marks, but she knew how much her body hurt.
When she took a bath last night, she saw bruises all over, barely any spot untouched.
"No, Ms. Lola Medici, it's great to have you here. Mr. Harris and Mrs. Harris will be thrilled. But Mr. Harris is out of town. I'll let Mrs. Harris know right away."
"No need, I wanna surprise Aunt Bonnie. Open up." Lola pushed through the pain and kept smiling. "I got some gifts in the car. Have someone bring them in later."
"Ms. Lola Medici, you're so thoughtful. Every time you come, you bring gifts for Mr. Harris and Mrs. Harris."
"You guys get some too." Before coming here, Lola figured Abella must've already won over the staff.
She couldn't let that slide!
"We get some too?" The guard was stoked. "On behalf of everyone, thanks, Ms. Lola Medici."
The gate opened, and Lola strutted in.
In the garden, a few servants were cleaning the fountain.
"Did you hear? Yesterday, some clueless chick ticked off Mrs. Harris on Riviera Avenue. Mrs. Harris told all the stores not to sell her anything."
"Seriously? Who's that dumb? Who'd dare mess with Mrs. Harris? That's just asking for it."
"Totally, she was probably spoiled at home and thought the world revolved around her, not knowing whose turf this is!"
"She must be from outta town. If she knew better, she wouldn't mess with Mrs. Harris. Especially since Mrs. Harris was out shopping with Ms. Abella Medici yesterday and was in a killer mood. Someone had the nerve to act up in front of her, of course, she handled it."
"Who knows who that poor girl is. This whole thing's blowing up. She's already got a bad rep."
Lola's fists clenched without her even realizing it.
Back then, a bunch of luxury car owners were watching. Folks who shop on Riviera Avenue aren't your average Joes.
If this news got back home, to her teachers and classmates...
If her admirers found out...
It'd be super embarrassing.
She didn't know if any bystanders had snapped pics or if there were videos floating around.
If there were, she'd be in deep trouble.
The servants kept gossiping, "Did you see the clothes, shoes, and bags Mrs. Harris bought for Ms. Abella Medici yesterday? They were stunning."
"Mrs. Harris always has killer taste. Her style's famous in the whole upper-crust scene."
"Must've cost at least two mil. Mrs. Harris really spoils Ms. Abella Medici."
"Well, she's her niece. They finally reunited, so of course, she's treating her well."
Hearing this, Lola's fists tightened even more!
Just then, someone noticed her and quickly stood up, bowing. "Ms. Lola Medici, what brings you here?"
The other servants looked over, quickly putting down their work, standing up, and bowing. "Ms. Lola Medici, we're so glad you could come. Mr. Harris and Mrs. Harris will be thrilled to see you."
Lola put on a proper smile. "Where's Aunt Bonnie?"
"Mrs. Harris is inside."
"I'll go surprise her. You all carry on."
Seeing Lola walk away gracefully, the servants wanted to say something but didn't have time.
Lola probably didn't know that Bonnie and Abella were heading to a birthday party.
Lola shoved all her displeasure aside and quietly entered the living room. Seeing Bonnie smiling and chatting with someone, she jumped out and happily shouted, "Aunt Bonnie."
Her smile faded when she saw Abella, also in a dress, standing opposite Bonnie.
Where are they going dressed like this? she wondered.
"Lola? You're here?" Bonnie had heard last night that she had arrived in Verdania. Seeing her now, she wasn't surprised but smiled indulgently. "Long time no see, you're getting naughtier, trying to scare me on purpose."
Lola laughed and then looked at Abella, sweetly calling out, "Abella."
Abella ignored her, but Bonnie, with her sharp eyes, noticed this. Bonnie smiled without showing any emotion. "You didn't let me send a car to pick you up?"
"Aunt Bonnie," Lola suddenly hugged her, emotionally saying, "If you weren't standing right in front of me, I wouldn't believe I could hug you in this lifetime. It's so good to have you back!"
As she said this, her voice choked up a bit. "Aunt Bonnie, I missed you so much. It seems my prayers to God worked. Seeing you standing here, everything is worth it."
"You prayed for me?" Bonnie looked down at Lola and smiled. "Why are you crying?"
"It's nothing." Lola immediately smiled through her tears. "I'm just so happy to see you back, I couldn't help it."
"Alright, don't cry." Bonnie smiled.
"Aunt Bonnie, you and Abella are wearing dresses. Where are you going?" Lola hugged Bonnie's arm and asked coquettishly, "Can you take me with you? I'm so bored alone."
"It's your Grandpa Derek's birthday. Abella and I are going." Bonnie smiled. "You go pick a room to rest in. We'll be back soon."
They had important matters to attend to tonight and couldn't take her along.
Lola had been pampered since childhood, and tonight's occasion was not suitable for her.
