Chapter 1072 Severing Ties
At the hospital, Henry rushed to the hospital as soon as he heard that Whitney's condition had worsened.
As he pushed open the door to the ICU, Melanie slapped him hard across the face. "Can't you control your girlfriend? Letting her upset Mom like that? Are you trying to kill her?"
Henry turned to the bodyguard standing nearby and asked, "What happened?"
"Ms. Flores..."
Before the bodyguard could finish, Melanie interrupted angrily, "She doesn't deserve your respect."
The bodyguard, visibly shaken, quickly corrected himself, "It was Lola. She came to visit Mrs. Hall and brought some gifts. Mrs. Hall asked her to leave, but she refused and told Mrs. Hall that your wedding is scheduled for this Friday at 7 PM. Mrs. Hall got so upset that her condition worsened."
"Did you hear that?" Melanie glared at Henry. "That woman deliberately aggravated Mom's condition!"
"Our wedding is indeed scheduled for this Friday at 7 PM. I was planning to find a time to tell Mom about it together with Lola. She probably saw how busy I was and decided to visit Mom on my behalf. She didn't say anything inappropriate and even brought gifts."
"She knows Mom doesn't want her in the Hall family and doesn't support your marriage. It's because of your wedding that Mom ended up in the ICU with a heart attack. And she still told Mom the time and place of the wedding. Isn't that just rubbing it in?"
"She was just visiting and sharing the good news with Mom. Why do you always assume the worst about people?"
"Henry, don't play dumb with me. Everyone in the Hall family except you is against this wedding!"
At that moment, the bodyguard noticed that Whitney was waking up and quickly said, "Ms. Hall, Mr. Hall, Mrs. Hall is awake."
The siblings stopped arguing and gathered around the bed.
Whitney slowly opened her eyes, her gaze finally settling on Henry. With all her strength, she asked tearfully, "Do you believe in Mom?"
Henry held her hand and said, "Of course I do."
"She's a disaster waiting to happen. Leave her," Whitney's voice was weak, and she could barely muster the strength to hold Henry's hand, but she clung tightly, tears streaming down her face. "I will never agree to this wedding."
"Mom." Henry felt helpless and was about to say something.
Whitney interrupted angrily, "If you insist on marrying her, then consider me dead!"
Henry looked at Whitney's anguished face and suddenly realized how much she had aged. Her hair had turned gray, and wrinkles had appeared on her forehead.
He remembered the mysterious person's "task."
If he were forced to do something to Abella, the Medici family would never forgive him, nor would they spare the Hall family.
Not to mention the Bourbon family backing Abella.
Whitney was already old, and he didn't want to burden her or the Hall family any further.
With that thought, he suddenly said apologetically, "Mom, I'm sorry, but I have to marry her. Thank you for raising me all these years."
Whitney's eyes widened, tears still in her eyes. She couldn't believe that Henry was willing to sever ties with her for that Lola.
Nolan, who had been silent all this time, was so enraged by Henry's words that he stepped forward and slapped him several times.
Henry's ears rang, and blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.
"You ungrateful bastard—fine, listen up. From now on, you are no longer my son or Whitney's. Get out!" Nolan's voice rose several octaves in anger. "Get out!"
Whitney closed her eyes, heartbroken, tears streaming down her face.
Melanie watched in disbelief. Henry had gone mad. He had truly gone mad.
For Lola, he was willing to sever ties with his family. What was he thinking?
Henry bowed apologetically to Nolan, but Nolan wasn't having it. He kicked Henry hard and roared, "I told you to get out!"
"Dad, don't get too worked up." Melanie noticed Nolan's anger, like a volcano about to erupt, and quickly stepped forward to support him. She looked at Henry, "Henry, are you really going to sever ties with Mom and Dad for Lola? After all they've done for you?"
Henry slowly stood up, bowed to the three of them, and left the ward.
"Henry?"
Melanie couldn't believe he was determined to sever ties. Nolan collapsed in anger, and Melanie panicked, "Dad, Dad? What are you two standing there for? Help me!"
The two bodyguards immediately stepped forward to help Nolan.
Melanie pressed the call button and rushed out to find Henry.
Henry stood in front of the elevator, and as the doors opened with a ding, he was about to step inside.
"Henry!" Melanie caught up with him, furious, and slapped him several times.
"Are you even human?" Melanie pounded his chest. "Mom is still in the ICU, and Dad collapsed because of you! Even if you want to marry her and sever ties with the family, you don't have to do it now. Are you trying to kill them?"
Henry let her hit him until she was exhausted. Then he wiped the tears from her face with his sleeve.
"Don't pretend to be kind!" Melanie angrily pushed his hand away, tears streaming down her face. "If you have any conscience left, cancel the wedding on Friday. For the sake of Mom and Dad, don't be the last straw that breaks them!"
Melanie turned and left, heartbroken.
Henry watched her leave. He was already on a sinking ship and couldn't turn back.
Only if he found the mysterious person and dealt with them, then he wouldn't have to sever ties with his family or harm the Medici family. It was a win-win solution.
But he had to wait for the mysterious person to create the final antidote and have Lola take it before he could kill the mysterious person.
This process could take at least a month, or it could take years.
During this time, he had to endure the humiliation.
He could only apologize to his family for now.
The next afternoon, Abella received a call from Sam.
"Ms. Medici, you didn't make it to the auction that day. There were too many people, and I couldn't identify Scorpion. But I did manage to get some useful information after holding the auctioneer at gunpoint," Sam reported over the phone.
