Chapter 102 Does Mr. Foster Remember?
Adeline's gaze might have been too intense.
The man in the office lifted his eyes, meeting hers just at that moment.
Their eyes locked.
Her look of stupor turned to one of embarrassment.
His expression shifted from surprise to detachment.
They held each other's gaze for what felt like an eternity.
Finally, Scarlett, at Jasper's side, sensed something amiss.
Lifting her gaze, she spotted Adeline.
"This is Adeline," she said, smiling at Jasper's side. "I saw Secretary Darwin taking her to the design department when I was on the elevator earlier."
Laughing softly, she remarked, "Miss Wilson is so beautiful; I was completely mesmerized in the elevator just now."
Her words caused Jasper to furrow his brows subtly.
He shifted his gaze from Adeline and looked indifferently at Scarlett. "You still haven't given me a clear explanation."
"I made it clear to Ryan that I wanted a male secretary."
How had the male secretary turned into a woman within a day?
And not just any woman, but one that bore a striking resemblance to Adeline?
It was impossible to believe Scarlett was unaware.
Scarlett's face turned slightly pale.
She lowered her head. "Mr. President, I assure you I can handle the secretarial duties."
"I..."
"Who arranged for you to be here?"
He pushed his chair back, creating an incredible distance between them, his legs crossed elegantly. "My father? My grandmother?"
"Or someone else?"
His piercing gaze seemed to see through everything.
Scarlett felt overwhelmed. "I..."
Knock, knock, knock.
Before she could say more, a knock on the office door interrupted her.
Through the glass window, the figure outside was Adeline.
Grasping at a lifeline, Scarlett hurriedly said, "Mr. Foster, I'll get the door!"
With that, she dashed and swung the door open.
Adeline, about to knock again, was caught mid-gesture.
"Adeline."
Scarlett greeted her with enthusiasm, "Here to report on work?"
"Come in. The boss has been waiting."
Her familiarity caught Adeline off-guard, leaving her momentarily at a loss for words.
Instinctively, her eyes flitted to Jasper inside the office.
He knitted his brows slightly, a touch of displeasure evident. "Come on in."
After a cold glance at Scarlett, filled with a silent warning, he said, "Go and reflect on this."
Scarlett stiffened, then hastily exited.
The door closed. The tension in the air thickened.
Adeline thought the chill in the room was because of her.
She smiled, strode forward, and placed the bundle of design drafts she'd been carrying onto the desk. "Mr. Foster, these are the proposals from the head of the design department."
"Please take a look and let me know if there are any issues."
Jasper reached out to slide the stack of papers closer but didn't open them.
With his hand resting atop the documents, he looked intently at Adeline. "You showed up?"
"Sure thing," Adeline said with a faint, sly smile. "I have no problem with hard work."
Jasper couldn't help but chuckle.
"After you quit your cushy job at Blue Bay, I figured you were done playing fetch for others."
"And now, you're at my company, working in the Jewelry Design department, catering to my team?"
With a smug smile, Adeline replied, "I'm just following Mr. Foster's orders."
"You do everything I say?"
"Sure thing."
The corners of Adeline's mouth curled into a timid smile as she lifted her gaze to meet Jasper's, her eyes shimmering with a touch of seduction. "When Mr. Foster told me not to move in bed, I stayed perfectly still. Do you remember that?"
She was doing it on purpose.
Jasper squinted, captivated by her sultry eyes.
But...
He seemed unable to resist her allure.
Scarlett, bearing an uncanny resemblance to Adeline, had just been closer to him and yet left him unmoved.
One look from Adeline, however, and he couldn't hide.
With frustration, Jasper looked down and flipped through the design proposals haphazardly.
"Have you looked at this material?" he asked in an icy tone, brows furrowed.
Adeline could tell from his flustered paperwork handling that her tactics had an effect.
Now that work was on the table, she wanted to keep the topic. "I glanced over it."
Jasper arched an eyebrow, "Your thoughts?"
"It's nothing special."
With a detached air, Adeline voiced her opinion right before him.
"Do you have any idea who created these designs?" Jasper asked with raised eyebrows.
Although the Foster Group's jewelry designs might not rival some international masters, each designer was handpicked, and none were slackers.
Essentially, every employee in the Foster family's enterprise was top-tier.
But to Adeline, an ordinary person, these elites' designs were just ordinary.
"I'm aware," she stated.
"However," Adeline said with a smile that was faint but confident, "a degree doesn't equal ability, does it?"
"The true measure of a person's capabilities, strength, and potential can't be defined by rigid standards."
"Every case requires a specific analysis, a logic I presume you're well acquainted with, Mr. Foster?"
Her severe eyes and subtly lifted lips exuded confidence as she spoke, causing Jasper to pause.
Once upon a time, there was once a woman who stood before him with that same gaze and confidence, uttering the very words he heard now.
After making her point, she smiled at him softly and said, "Honey, you're the CEO of a corporation; you can't judge people solely by their education."
"Mr. Foster, as the head of a corporation, you really shouldn't evaluate someone just on their academic credentials," Adeline finished her statement, lifting her gaze.
Their eyes met—his, a deep, fathomless pool that seemed to swallow her whole.
Caught off guard for a moment, she realized her mistake.
It was something she had seemingly said to Jasper before.
Clearing her throat with a light cough, she said, "Mr. Foster, do you find any truth to those words?"
Jasper suddenly snapped out of his reverie.
He looked at her, his eyes intense. “There is truth in it."
"Of course, it's true. I saw a similar sentiment on Miss Adeline's Facebook once."
"She did post something like that."
Jasper's furrowed brows finally relaxed a bit.
He picked up his coffee with a cool detachment, sipping it with a sarcastic smile. "I almost forgot how you once imitated Adeline in an attempt to get closer to me."
After setting the coffee cup down, his gaze turned icy. "It seems you've done your homework to be this effective as Brandon Torres' corporate spy."
