Chapter 213 This Isn't Your Fault
Jasper's words made Adeline pause involuntarily.
After a while, she came to her senses from those unbearable memories of the past.
Adeline raised her head and glanced at Jasper indifferently. "This isn't Dawnvale."
Jasper elegantly finished the food on his plate, a hint of a cold smile playing at the corner of his lips. "Here, I also have my ways."
Adeline shook her head. "Even if you have a way now, what about later? We will eventually leave."
Taking a deep breath, she continued, "While we are still here, I can argue back against whatever she says. When we truly leave, they won't have any way to bring up this matter again."
Jasper furrowed his brows, his voice cold and arrogant. "Do you think I can't handle the Phoebe family?"
As long as he was willing to take action, even after they left, Jasper had the capability. Letting Linda keep these things buried inside her for a lifetime was not beyond his reach.
Adeline, of course, knew about his abilities.
However...
"I don't want to owe you too many favors." She glanced at the wound on his arm. "These are already enough. Since Linda came for me, I have my own way of dealing with it, no need for you to worry."
With that said, she raised an eyebrow and added, "Otherwise, if Ms. Foster finds out, she'll force me to drink again."
At the mention of Stella, Jasper's brows slightly furrowed, but he remained silent.
The woman packed up the takeout box, throwing it in the trash while glancing at Jasper. "The medicine's taken, lunch is done. You should head back now, shouldn't you?"
"I want to rest for a bit." Jasper gave her a cold glance before standing up and leaving.
The door closed.
Adeline took a deep breath, feeling drained, and lay down on the sofa, closing her eyes heavily.
Her mind was filled with the words from Linda's audio just now.
She spoke with conviction.
But... Adeline was reluctant to believe that Linda would do such a thing after knowing her true identity.
In the end... Was it her own will, or was there some other reason?
At Ocean City Central Hospital, Luna smiled lightly at the busy Linda in front of her. "After talking for so long, do you want some water?"
Linda glanced at her phone and shook her head. "No, just two more phone interviews to go."
Luna's graceful smile widened. "Linda, rest assured, I will do as I promised. As long as you help Ms. Foster bring down Adeline at tomorrow's press conference... I am willing to let Lyndon go."
After saying that, she handed the prepared tea to Linda. "But you don't need to worry. Lyndon and I have known each other for so long, I won't make things difficult for him. He is currently in the backyard of the Evelyn's family villa; we haven't mistreated him."
Linda's knuckles whitened as she gripped her phone.
Who didn't know that the villa nestled in the backyard of the Evelyns family concealed a prison? It served as a clandestine holding for their traitors. Yet, Adeline's father was no traitor; he hadn't acted against the Evelyns.
Nevertheless, due to Stella and Luna's machinations to bring down Adeline, he found himself confined within those dungeon walls, transformed into a pawn used to threaten Linda.
Linda bit her lip tightly, calmly accepting two more phone interviews. Finally, she looked up at Luna and said, "Luna, I have said what you asked me to. With interviews from over a dozen media outlets and tomorrow's press conference, isn't that enough to show my sincerity?"
Luna proudly smiled, glanced down, and sent a message silently. After a moment, she looked up at Linda and said, "That's enough. I look forward to your press conference tomorrow. You will be reunited with Lyndon."
With that, Luna put away her phone and left.
As soon as she left, Linda received a call from Stella.
"Linda." Stella's voice on the other end carried a hint of tears. "Thank you so much for being willing to do so much for me! You will always be my best friend!"
Linda clenched her lips tightly. "What are you thanking me for..."
Stella excitedly chatted with Linda for a while before hanging up the phone.
"Linda," Zavier said weakly, lying on the hospital bed, his gaze fixed on Linda with a sense of helplessness. "Are you truly planning to tarnish Adeline at the press conference tomorrow?"
Linda closed her eyes momentarily, her expression reflecting the weight of her decision. "I have no choice," she replied solemnly.
Even though Adeline was her good friend from high school, their power was ultimately weak. With Stella backed by Luna, and behind Luna, the Evelyns family who could control the entire Ocean City.
Linda couldn't afford to offend them. Besides following their orders, she couldn't think of any other way to safely get Lyndon out of the Miao family's prison.
Adeline lay on the sofa, unknowingly drifting off into a deep sleep.
After some time, her phone rang. It was Sebastian calling.
"Adeline, where are you now?" His voice was filled with urgency. "I just came out of the police station, and as soon as I did, I heard people talking about you. I immediately called Zavier, and he said you were taken by Jasper! How about you, did Jasper do anything to you?"
Adeline responded, "No, he brought me back to the hotel. Come find me at the hotel." She then took a deep breath and added, "Besides telling you that I was taken by Jasper, what else did Zavier say?"
Sebastian fell silent for a moment on the other end of the phone. "He said, Linda also has her own reasons." After that, Sebastian sighed helplessly. "Who do you think is targeting you, Stella?
"But... Stella is not a local, where does she get such great influence to threaten Linda?"
Adeline closed her eyes and helplessly replied, "I also want to know."
Not only was Linda a local, but her father, Lyndon, even owned the largest five-star hotel in the city.
In theory, there weren't many people who could threaten her.
Suddenly, Luna's face appeared in Adeline's mind.
She bit her lip.
In Ocean City, it seemed that only the Evelyn family could threaten the Ling family, making Linda to submit willingly.
Holding the phone, she fell silent for a long time.
Sebastian then asked, "I'm on my way to your hotel, do you want to come down and meet me?"
Seeing her silence, Sebastian smiled wryly and said, "I'm afraid of going to the wrong room, and I'm even more afraid of Jasper's people stopping me from finding you."
After a moment of silence, Adeline stood up and said, "Okay. I'm going downstairs to wait for you now."
With that, Adeline hung up the phone, casually grabbed a coat, and left the room.
As soon as she opened the door, the door next to hers also opened. She instinctively glanced in the direction of the neighboring room.
Stella was looking at her with a mix of surprise in her eyes. After a moment, the surprise in the woman's eyes turned into disdain. "When did Ms. Wilson return? I heard that last night, in order to spend the night with Sebastian, you and Tom teamed up to knock out Ryan."
She slightly raised the corner of her lips, looking into the room behind Adeline. "Why did you come back alone? Where's Sebastian?"
After saying that, as if remembering something, she covered her mouth with her hand. "Could it be that Sebastian saw the news and is angry with you? These people just love to gossip."
Finally, Stella smiled at Adeline's face. "Do you know where Sebastian is? Or should I help you persuade him not to be so resentful? After all, Jasper is too outstanding, this isn't your fault."
