Chapter 532 Mommy, Take Care

Jasper frowned and tossed the news aside. "Not all hospitals are the same."

Before he could say more, the car had already pulled up at the hospital entrance.

Lauren flung the car door open and bolted towards the entrance. "Mommy, I'm here!"

After Molly left, they took Adeline back to her room.

Adeline struggled to get into bed, hoping to rest for a bit, but the nurse in charge barged in again.

This time, she had a crew with her. They pinned Adeline down. Some did her makeup, some changed her clothes, and others threatened her. "Mr. Foster's coming to see you soon, so look sharp! Remember, no matter what you say, if Mr. Foster thinks you're really sick, he won't take you out. Say something you shouldn't, and if Mr. Foster blames us, we'll make you pay double after he leaves! If you don't want to lose two fingers by tomorrow, you'd better behave!"

Adeline was like a puppet, forced to go along with their demands.

They were right; even if she told the truth, Jasper wouldn't take her out. No way he'd let her go.

So, Adeline had to play along and put on a show.

Soon, she was all dolled up. Her messy hair was combed, her pale face covered with foundation, and they even put lip gloss on her.

They hid her injured hand with a glove, telling her to say it was from occasional labor.

Once she was ready, the nurses politely escorted her to the visiting room.

Adeline thought it would be Jasper and Luna coming to see her. But she was wrong.

"Mommy!"

As soon as she walked in, a small figure rushed at her.

Lauren threw herself into Adeline's arms, her usually clear voice now shaky with sobs. "Lauren missed you so much! I couldn't reach you all day! Mommy, are you okay?"

When Lauren hugged her, she hit Adeline's injured hand, making the pain flare up again. But Adeline gritted her teeth and endured it.

The nurses had warned her not to show any signs of injury in front of visitors.

Adeline didn't know it was Blake and Lauren coming to see her.

If she had known it was the kids, she would've pretended to be fine even without the warning. She didn't want them to see her hurt or worry.

Adeline took a deep breath, smiled, and picked up Lauren. "Don't worry! Mommy's here for treatment, not to suffer."

Then she smiled at Blake, who was sitting on a chair with a complicated look. "Your sister's so excited; aren't you happy to see Mommy?"

Blake looked at Adeline's forced smile and the tears she was holding back, feeling conflicted.

After a moment, Blake sighed, got off the chair, walked over to Adeline, and pulled Lauren out of her arms. "Mommy's a patient now, and you still let her hold you? That's not good."

Lauren pouted and got down from Adeline.

Even as she got down, her body brushed against Adeline's injured fingers.

The sharp pain made Adeline shudder, but she gritted her teeth, smiled at Blake, and said, "Why are you so hard on your sister? When Mommy's not around, you need to take good care of her, okay?"

Blake nodded, his eyes glued to Adeline's gloved left hand.

He wasn't sure if he was imagining it, but when Adeline was holding and putting down Lauren, her little finger seemed off, like it wasn't moving right.

A bad feeling crept over him. Blake walked over and grabbed Adeline's left hand. "Mommy, your hand."

Adeline quickly pulled her hand back and hid it behind her. "Mommy's hand got scratched yesterday. To avoid further injury, I've been wearing gloves."

She took a deep breath, pushing down the pain, and said, "Blake, take your sister back. This isn't a place for kids. Mommy will come home once I'm better. Don't worry."

Seeing Adeline trying to send them away so quickly, Lauren couldn't hold back her tears. "Mommy!"

Lauren cried and tried to hug Adeline again, but Blake stopped her.

Lauren could only sob. "Mommy, Blake and I have been looking for you for so long. Now that we finally see you, you want to send us away. How can you do this? We're worried about you too!"

Seeing Lauren's tear-streaked face, Adeline's heart ached. But she knew if she didn't let them leave now, she wouldn't be able to hold on much longer. Even breathing hurt.

"Alright, Lauren," Blake sighed, holding her. "Mommy's having a tough time. If she had a choice, she wouldn't be here. We should go back so she won't worry."

Blake turned and looked deeply at Adeline. "Mommy, take care."

Then he took Lauren's hand and left.

Adeline squatted there, smiling as she watched them go.

When the heavy iron door of the visiting room closed, her smile vanished.

With a thud, Adeline's body collapsed to the ground in a squatting position.

Tears started to flow. She didn't know if it was from the pain or the sadness of seeing her kids.

"Adeline!" In the monitoring room outside, Jasper saw the kids leave and was about to turn away when he saw Adeline collapse. His mind went blank!

Jasper shoved the person in charge aside and rushed into the visiting room, picking Adeline up from the ground. "What's wrong?"

"It hurts." Overwhelmed by the long-suppressed pain, Adeline was somewhat delirious.

But even then, when she saw it was Jasper, she used all her strength to push him away. "You! Get out!"
