Chapter 43 It Was Me Who Gave Him the Laxative

Ryan hesitated for a moment and looked at Jasper's condition before nodding and helping him into the car. As the car headed toward the hospital, Bennett breathed a sigh of relief. He felt like he had narrowly escaped a disaster.

But then Ryan made a phone call.

"Adeline, are you still awake?" he asked.

"Sir is not feeling well. I'm on my way to the hospital via the Cross-Sea Bridge. You should ask the driver to take you to the hospital and wait there. Sir has a stomach condition, and he needs someone to take care of him."

Mommy would be waiting at the hospital.

What should he do now?

Jump out of the car?

"Daddy was fine during dinner," Lauren said anxiously while standing in the lobby of the central hospital, holding Adeline's hand and looking into the distance. "How did his stomach suddenly become uncomfortable?"

Adeline said calmly, "Perhaps he had something else to eat or drink afterwards."

She looked toward the entrance of the hospital, her brows furrowing.

How could Jasper have a stomach condition?

She remembered that his digestion had always been good. Even if he often went out for social events, he had never experienced any stomach pain before.

How did it happen today?

Lost in thought, she noticed a black Maserati stopping at the entrance of the hospital.

"It's daddy!"

Lauren let go of Adeline's hand and quickly ran toward the car with her short little legs.

Watching her daughter's anxious figure, Adeline felt a strange emotion welling up inside her.

Ryan quickly got out of the driver's seat and opened the back door of the car. "Adeline, come help!"

The woman pursed her lips and walked over. With Ryan on one side and Adeline on the other, they helped the pale-faced man out of the car.

The intense pain in his abdomen distorted Jasper's delicate features.

But he didn't forget to instruct the little boy sitting in the car. "Bennett, take care of Lauren."

Bennett?

Adeline froze in place.

She subconsciously looked into the car.

The little guy shrank back and lifted his head timidly to greet her. "Good evening."

Adeline gasped.

What time was it?

Why was Bennett awake at this hour, and how did he end up with Jasper?

She glared at him fiercely and then turned to look at Lauren. "You go to the car and have a 'pleasant' conversation with this child."

Seeing Bennett, Lauren's face lit up, and she quickly ran toward the car to interact with him.

Her face was filled with shock. "Ben... Bonjour."

Jasper was in so much pain that he could barely stand. Adeline couldn't manage much either. She snatched the car keys from Ryan's hand and threw them to Bennett. She placed Lauren in the car and closed the door.

"Stay here and don't wander around, understood?"

Her tone was stern, not like that of a stranger speaking to a child.

It felt more like a communication between a mother and child.

A rather unpleasant one.

Ryan furrowed his brow. He was full of doubts. Together with Adeline, he helped Jasper inside.

Outside the Emergency Room

Ryan sat on a bench, took the tissues Adeline handed him, and silently wiped the sweat from his forehead. "Don't worry. It's an old illness."

"How long has he had this illness?"

Ryan smiled. "About five or six years. After madam had an accident six years ago, he started drinking every day and developed this condition."

During that time, Jasper locked himself in his room and drank every day. No matter how much Molly advised or scolded him, he remained indifferent and unruly.

One time, he drank until his stomach bled. The doctor said it was fortunate that he had good health before; otherwise, he would have already collapsed.

Every time Ryan thought about this, he couldn't help but sigh.

He had never seen madam, so he had no idea what charm that woman possessed to make a man like Jasper torture himself for her.

Adeline frowned and glanced at the closed door of the ICU.

She had an accident six years ago. Did Jasper drink every day?

Was he trying to make people believe that he was sad for her, or was he celebrating his escape?

Her gaze turned cold.

Regardless of the reason, she believed he deserved it!

After a while, the door to the ICU opened.

The doctor furrowed his brow as he walked out. "Make a list of everything Mr. Foster ate or drank today and investigate them one by one."

Ryan knitted his brows. "What do you mean?"

"He was given a powerful laxative."

Needless to say, Adeline knew who gave him the laxative.

After all, when the little guy hadn't returned to the country yet, he had specially consulted a doctor, claiming to have severe constipation.

She sighed helplessly.

This was simply nonsense!

The doctor looked at Ryan coldly and said, "You know his stomach is not good. How could you let him drink chilled beverages so late?"

Ryan was stunned.

He remembered the chilled beverage, which was given by the boy named Bennett.

But a laxative?

He took a deep breath. "Adeline, take care of Mr. Foster. I'll call the housekeeper now and ask for a count of the servants who cooked tonight."

He felt something was not right.

Tonight, they all had dinner together.

Why is it that nothing happened to Lauren, Adeline, or him?

If we eliminate dinner, the only thing left is what Mr. Foster drank afterwards.

When he was in the study, he had the coffee and tea that Adeline brewed for him.

Then he went to see Bennett and had the chilled beverage prepared by the little guy.

Ryan looked at Adeline with suspicion. "The person who drugged Mr. Foster... It couldn't be that little boy, could it?"

He's so young. How could he have such cunning?

Besides, he has no grudge against Mr. Foster. He even saved Lauren before. There's no reason for him to do so.

But if it's not Bennett, then it can only be...

"It's me." Adeline sighed and took the blame for her son. "It was me who drugged him because I held a grudge."

Ryan's face instantly turned unpleasant.

He glared fiercely at Adeline. "How could you do this? Mr. Foster has been good to you! During this period, you've been dismissive of Mr. Foster. He endured it and even subtly asked if Lauren had been feeling better lately.

"Is this how you treat him? Adeline, I'm so disappointed in you!"

After speaking, Ryan turned and stormed into the sickroom.

Adeline stood in the hallway and helplessly covered her forehead with her hand, letting out a long sigh.

After a while, she turned around and prepared to settle the score with the little guy waiting in the car outside.

At this moment, the door of the sickroom opened.

A cold-faced Ryan called her. "Mr. Foster wants to see you."

She stopped in her tracks.

The sickroom was filled with the smell of disinfectant.

Jasper leaned against the head of the bed, his face still pale. "I heard that you drugged me with a laxative."

Adeline could only answer reluctantly. "Yes."

"This man clearly knows how to hold a grudge," she thought. He'll definitely fire her this time, right?

But he casually turned his head to look at Ryan and said, "Go find a doctor."

"For what?"

Jasper's deep gaze was fixed on Adeline's face. "Of course, to get a prescription for a laxative to give to Miss Wilson."

After speaking, he seemed to have thought of something. "But maybe it's not necessary. Miss Wilson should still have some laxatives on her, right? Show me the evidence."
