Chapter 503 Are You Unwilling to Go?
Vikram's question totally blindsided Adeline.
She held the phone, silent for what felt like forever, before finally clearing her throat. "Vikram, are you serious? You're Blake and Lauren's uncle. Even though we're close in age, there's still a generational gap."
On the other end of the line, Vikram chuckled. "If you're not planning to be with Jasper anymore, does the generational gap even matter?"
After a pause, Vikram got serious. "Adeline, would you consider it?"
Adeline hesitated, her voice tight. "Vikram, stop joking, I..."
"With my serious tone, you can still tell I'm joking?" Vikram's mischievous laughter cut her off.
He laughed heartily. "I'm just messing with you. We do have quite an age difference, and I don't think I could handle being a dad to Blake and Lauren, who would always drive me crazy."
After that, Vikram stifled his laughter, pushing down the sadness in his heart, and focused on the ticket booking system on his computer screen. "We'll stick to the original plan, with multiple contingencies. Have Mia's people continue the grid search for Molly's whereabouts, and you stay in Radiance Springs to stabilize the situation. Wait for my update."
Seeing he was finally serious, Adeline sighed in relief and gave Vikram a few more instructions before hanging up.
After ending the call, Vikram lay on the bed staring at the ceiling, a bitter smile crossing his lips.
He knew there was no future with Adeline. Whether it was age, their relationship, or the Jasper in her heart, these were all insurmountable obstacles.
If this time, after Caroline's case was overturned, Adeline could get something on Luna or expose Luna's true nature to Jasper, Vikram would still be willing to take risks for her. After all, he was still young, unlike Jasper, who had to consider all sorts of things when he liked someone.
Vikram wanted to do something for Adeline, to make her unable to forget him.
After hanging up Vikram's call, Adeline tried several more times with Blake's computer but still couldn't find any info on the doctor who treated Lucas and Caroline years ago.
She hadn't slept all night and had been busy all morning.
By noon, drowsiness hit Adeline, and she finally couldn't stay awake and fell asleep.
When Adeline woke up again, it was already past eight in the evening.
There were a few messages quietly waiting on her phone.
Mia: [Adeline, my people searched all day but still couldn't find Molly. I don't know if Radiance Springs is too big or if she's hiding too well. I'll have them keep trying tomorrow.]
Mia: [Regarding Dr. Smith's medical team, I've increased the offer again, but they still refused, saying their big client is paying more. I wonder what kind of big client is more generous than me!]
Vikram: [I'm already at the security checkpoint; about to board the plane. Don't worry. I'll do my best to uncover the truth from back then!]
Blake: [Mommy, don't worry. Lauren and I are doing great here. Luna can't do anything to us, and Lily is on our side now! Don't worry!]
Adeline scrolled through the messages, feeling waves of warmth in her heart.
Even though she had the misfortune of falling for a man like Jasper, leading to her current series of tragedies, there were always people who cared about her in her times of difficulty.
After replying to each message, Adeline was about to put down her phone when it buzzed again.
It was a message from Violet.
Violet: [Adeline, are you up?]
Violet: [Summer's almost over, and Ethan said there's a summer-themed fireworks party at the beach tonight. Wanna come? It might cheer you up.]
Violet: [There's barbecue, a beach, fireworks, and handsome guys!]
Looking at the message, Adeline got up from the bed, glanced at the cold, empty room, and the dark sky, and rubbed her growling stomach.
In the end, Adeline decided to go.
This summer had been rough. It would be good to say goodbye to the past unhappiness in the last few days of summer.
Plus, Adeline was starving. With only herself at home, she was too lazy to cook.
So, after getting the address of the fireworks party from Violet, Adeline quickly got ready and took a cab there.
In a corner outside Blue Bay, Tim took out his phone.
Tim asked, "Mr. Foster, Miss Wilson has taken a cab out. Shall we keep following her?"
On the other end of the line, Jasper's indifferent voice came through. "Do it."
Jasper had just hung up the phone when there was a knock on his study door.
Luna called, "Jasper."
Entering the room was a pitiful-looking Luna. She was still wearing a white dress, looking extremely delicate.
Luna said, "Jasper, Grandma has been targeting me. I don't want to have dinner at home tonight. Can we go out?"
Jasper frowned slightly, looking up at her. "Alright."
Although it was only the second day of Lily and the kids staying here, Lily had been targeting Luna whenever she had the chance.
Lily had used almost all the tactics she had previously used against Adeline on Luna.
Adeline had a strong tolerance and a stubborn personality. Besides, she had her own ways of handling things, so she rarely complained to Jasper.
But Luna was different. As soon as Lily gave her a hard time, she would immediately run to Jasper to complain.
By the end of the day, Jasper was already exhausted.
Now that she suggested going out for dinner, Jasper also felt they needed fresh air.
He stood up. "Where do you want to go?"
Luna bit her lip. "I heard there's a summer-themed fireworks party at the beach tonight. I've never been to such an event. They say it's lively and romantic, with lots of good food."
"Can we go?" Luna looked at Jasper with wide eyes. "You probably haven't been to such an event either, right? Let's go together, okay?"
Luna's words made Jasper think of Adeline.
When he and Adeline had just gotten married, Adeline had also looked at him with desire, hoping he would take her to a summer fireworks party.
But he had always been busy. Until now, Jasper had never taken Adeline to one.
Jasper sighed, just about to say something when his phone rang.
It was a message from Tim.
Tim: [Miss Wilson has arrived.]
Along with the message was a photo.
In the photo, Adeline, Violet, and Ethan were standing in front of a barbecue stand, smiling as they waited for their food.
The distant fireworks and firelight reflected on her face, making Adeline look especially beautiful.
Seeing Jasper staring at his phone without speaking, Luna bit her lip. "Jasper, do you not want to go?"
Jasper silently put away his phone, walked over, and took Luna's hand. "Let's go."
