Chapter 28 She Has Bad Intentions

"Miss Wood?" Adeline blinked at Violet, deliberately using a very unfamiliar tone to greet her, "You're out shopping too."

Violet frowned, about to say something, but Jasper glanced at Bennett with indifference, "We meet again."

In front of Adeline, Bennett didn't dare say much and could only smile awkwardly at him, "We...we meet again."

Violet was speechless in shock.

What's going on?

Adeline actually has such a good relationship with someone like Jasper?

And Bennett knows Jasper?

She forced a smile, "Well, everyone knows each other..."

"Hello," Jasper finally noticed the woman pushing Bennett, "Are you this child's mother?"

Isn't this child's mother right next to you?

"She's not my mother, she's my aunt." Bennett interrupted him, "My mom is busy working and doesn't have time to take care of me, so I've been living with my aunt lately."

The little one's words made Violet swallow the words she was about to say.

She cleared her throat, exchanged a few more polite words with Adeline, and hurriedly left with Bennett.

Jasper kept watching Violet and Bennett disappear before turning around.

"How does Mr. Foster know such a young child?"

Adeline casually asked as she pushed the shopping cart and continued browsing.

"The child saved you and Lauren yesterday," Jasper sighed lightly, "He's a very intelligent and righteous child."

"I see..." Adeline quietly breathed a sigh of relief.

She was truly afraid that Bennett would do something inappropriate again.

He took matters into his own hands and let Lauren and Jasper's encounter completely disrupted her plans.

Going through it all over again, she estimated it would give her a heart attack.

"That child seems quite pitiful," Jasper continued in a subdued tone as he walked, noticing Adeline's interest in the boy.

"He said his father died when he was just born and he has been dependent on his mother ever since. Unexpectedly, his mother started working and entrusted him to a friend."

For some reason, every time he thought of that little boy, he thought of Lauren.

If Lauren hadn't recognized him, she must have had a similarly miserable life, right?

"He..." Adeline tightened her grip on the shopping cart, "He said his father... died?"

"Yes," Jasper recalled Bennett's reply from yesterday and didn't feel anything was amiss. "He said his father had passed away long before he was born."

Adeline turned her face away, not letting him see her stifled laughter turn her face red. "We're done with the groceries, let's go back, shall we?"

Exiting the fresh market, instead of taking Adeline home, Jasper took her to the third floor of the shopping mall to the clothing department.

"I still want to buy some clothes for Lauren."

Adeline nodded, lifting her foot and heading towards the children's section.

He wanted to please Lauren, and of course, Adeline wanted to help. After all, whether it was cooking or buying clothes, it would ultimately benefit Lauren.

The woman moved through the shopping mall like a bird, looking here and there, evaluating each item.

Not only did she know Lauren's size perfectly, but she could also even clearly state the styles that Lauren liked and suited her. Jasper was somewhat surprised.

If he remembered correctly, this woman had only been with Lauren for less than a week.

Yet, she seemed to know so much about Lauren?

He sat on the couch, watching her move around the children's section, and Adeline's face appeared before him as if in a trance.

If she were by his side, she would probably be just like Adeline, bustling around like a diligent little bee, taking care of their daughter.

In other words, Adeline's concern and care for Lauren seemed to far exceed that of a nanny's relationship with her employer's daughter.

He remembered yesterday on the Ferris wheel when she was willing to risk her life to protect Lauren.

At this moment, he unexpectedly felt that even if this woman, Adeline, had ulterior motives towards him, it wouldn't be a big deal.

At least, she genuinely and wholeheartedly took care of Lauren.

Lauren had a good eye and found the most competent nanny as soon as she returned.

"Sir?" Perhaps noticing he had been sitting on the couch for too long, a salesclerk cautiously approached.

"That is your wife, I assume?"

"I can tell that your wife is extremely devoted to your daughter."

"Do you want to buy her a gift?"

Jasper frowned and turned his head to look. The coldness in his eyes made the salesperson tremble a bit.

But the salesperson still smiled and pointed to the women's clothing section behind him. "Your wife has a great figure. She can wear those clothes."

Almost involuntarily, Jasper stood up and followed the salesperson into the women's clothing section.

With the salesperson's introduction, Jasper bought two expensive outfits for Adeline.

When he returned to the sofa, Adeline had just finished choosing clothes for Lauren.

"These are for you."

On the way back, Jasper handed the two sets of women's clothing to Adeline with a cold expression.

The woman took a glance and said, "Mr. Foster, why are you suddenly giving me clothes?"

"On one hand, it's to reward you for looking after Lauren yesterday. On the other hand, it's a thank you for being willing to teach me how to cook," the man turned his head and looked out the car window, his voice devoid of warmth. "I can see how dedicated you are to Lauren, but I can't give you what you want, so consider this as repayment."

Adeline was taken aback for a moment before understanding Jasper's meaning.

He still didn't trust her, he still thought she had ulterior motives.

A contemptuous smile appeared on the woman's lips, "Then, thank you, Mr. Foster."

Adeline admitted that she did have ulterior motives when she came back this time, but it wasn't now, and she wouldn't be so straightforward about it either.

From the very beginning, she never intended to appear by his side as a maid.

If it wasn't for Bennett causing trouble, she wouldn't have to stay by his side and be despised by him just for Lauren's sake.

Silence filled the rest of the journey.

When the two of them returned home, Lauren looked excitedly at the pile of clothes that Jasper had bought for her and pulled Adeline to the walk-in closet to change.

She changed one outfit after another, and with each change, she would ask Adeline for praise.

Adeline leaned against the sofa and watched the little girl's excited expression, helplessly smiling.

A child's happiness really was so simple.

When Lauren changed into her sixth outfit, Adeline's phone rang. It was Violet calling.

"Adeline, what exactly is your relationship with Jasper?"

Adeline rubbed her temples and replied, "I can't explain it right now, but just know that I work as a maid in Jasper's house."

"It's not for me to ask for an explanation," Violet paused, "Have you not seen the news? You and Jasper were seen shopping together, Jasper bought you clothes, and all of this was photographed and posted online! Jasper's fiancée, Molly, is a bit of a celebrity now, and she's currently crying on live streaming. Internet users are criticizing you, saying you're a mistress!"
