Chapter 768 She Was Harmed by Jasper
The air in the room grew tense.
Adeline's face was a picture of shock as Jasper gave a faint smile.
"I talked to Dennis. The baby you're carrying is over a month old."
"Over a month... unless you were with Brandon right after the Torres family brought you to Oceancrest City and got pregnant then."
"But back then, you had just had a miscarriage. It was impossible for you to do such a thing."
He took a sip of his coffee, "So, I can only conclude that this child is ours from before."
His analysis was clear and logical.
Adeline pressed her lips together and looked at him steadily, "Yes."
Knowing she couldn't hide it any longer, she decided to come clean. "When I jumped from upstairs, I had some light bleeding. The doctor and I thought the baby was lost... but it survived."
Jasper narrowed his eyes, "But now you're claiming this is Brandon's child... Are you planning to let my child call another man 'father'?"
"Call another man 'father'?"
Adeline scoffed, "I never intended for this child to call Brandon 'dad,' and Brandon is not the thief you make him out to be."
Jasper sneered, "Isn't he?"
To him, Brandon was worse than a thief.
Adeline found his words amusing.
"You call Brandon a thief?"
"Jasper, don't forget, Brandon saved my life and helped me raise three children."
"Before we returned to Radiance Springs, Brandon was their godfather. To them, he was more important than you."
Adeline's words made the room fall silent.
Jasper squinted at her.
After a long pause, he turned his face away, struggling to control his emotions. "You said that was before."
"Since meeting me, the kids have preferred me."
Adeline responded softly, "Yes," and then fell silent.
After a long silence, Adeline looked up at Jasper.
"If the reason you called me here today was to let me see Blake, Bennett, and Lauren, and to ask about the baby I'm carrying, now you know everything."
"If there's nothing else, I'll be going."
She hadn't slept all night and now had a splitting headache.
As Adeline stood up, Jasper frowned and couldn't help but grab her wrist, pulling her into his arms.
Her warmth and scent made him feel alive.
He was addicted to holding her.
Adeline frowned and instinctively struggled for a moment but couldn't break free.
So, she let him hold her. "Jasper, what is this?"
"A goodbye hug?"
The man holding her responded softly, his voice slightly hoarse.
"How long are you planning to stay with the Phoebe family?"
For some reason, Adeline felt a hint of sadness and pleading in his voice.
She pressed her lips together, breathing in his unique scent. "I don't want to lie to you."
"I returned to the Phoebe family partly because my mom, Zara, is not in good health."
"And partly because I was too disappointed in you."
Adeline's words made Jasper's body stiffen.
He held her tightly. "And now... are you still disappointed in me?"
"Still a bit."
Adeline closed her eyes. "But you had your reasons for not coming to find me."
"I don't hate you or dislike you as much as I used to."
"But..."
She took a deep breath and pulled away from his embrace, her clear eyes fixed on Jasper's face.
"Jasper, from now on, I'm with the Phoebe family, and you're with the Foster family."
"We... have no future together."
"Blake, Bennett, and Lauren, I'll leave them with you. The baby I'm carrying, I'll keep."
"In your life, love isn't the most important thing."
"In my life from now on, love won't be the most important thing either."
"We... should end this."
"Let's not entangle each other anymore."
With that, she turned and left, leaving Jasper stunned.
"Adeline."
As Adeline reached for the door handle, Jasper frowned.
"You said you returned to the Phoebe family for Zara."
"If Zara dies, will you come back to me?"
Adeline froze.
She turned back, her eyes cold as she looked at Jasper. "I just reunited with my mother. Are you cursing her?"
Jasper frowned, "That's not what I meant..."
He had learned from Dennis that even though Zara's poison was cured, her health was deteriorating and she wouldn't last long.
Adeline knew he didn't mean it that way.
But his words made her uncomfortable.
Taking a deep breath, she looked at Jasper.
"If I hear you say something like that again, I'll never forgive you!"
With that, Adeline walked away.
Jasper stood there, rubbing his temples in frustration.
He had been so sleep-deprived lately that he had said something so foolish... Not long after Adeline left, a servant knocked on the door.
"Mr. Foster, Mr. Oliver Phoebe is here to see you."
Jasper paused, quickly straightened his clothes, and walked out.
Outside, Oliver leaned against his car, looking at him calmly. "What did you do to upset my sister?"
"She looked pretty angry when she left."
Jasper rubbed his temples and sighed, "I'd rather not say."
If he did, Oliver might get angry and punch him.
"My mother wants to see you."
Oliver opened the car door and gestured for him to get in.
"She thinks you're more sincere towards Adeline than Brandon."
"So she wants to talk to you."
Jasper raised an eyebrow and got into the car.
From Swan Villa back to the Phoebe Mansion, Adeline felt like she was going to collapse from the headache.
Probably because of the pregnancy, she was already easily tired, and after a sleepless night, she went straight to bed as soon as she got to her room.
She didn't know how long she had slept when a loud knocking on the door woke her up.
Adeline groggily didn't want to get up.
She tried to ignore the knocking, but it grew louder, accompanied by the servant's anxious voice.
"Ms. Phoebe, wake up!"
"Mrs. Phoebe is in trouble!" Adeline jolted awake.
She quickly got out of bed and opened the door. "What happened?"
"What's wrong with my mother?"
The servant lowered her head.
"Mrs. Phoebe... she was harmed by Jasper."
