Chapter 233 My Ex-Husband is a Jerk

The voice made Adeline, already prepared to be hit, slightly stunned.

Jasper?

She thought she had misheard.

When she withdrew her hand and looked in the voice's direction...

Jasper was standing in front of her, holding Zavier's wrist with one hand.

The veins on Zavier's forehead bulged, indicating that he was using all his strength to try to hit her.

However, Jasper easily controlled him with just one hand.

It seemed effortless, leaving Adeline momentarily stunned.

"Adeline! Come over here!" Linda's voice came from behind.

She hesitated, quickly retreating a bit before standing next to Linda.

"When did Jasper arrive?" Linda held her hand, massaging it while looking puzzled.

"He has been following us since we left the hospital." David glanced lightly at Adeline. "He must be afraid that something might happen to you."

He stretched lazily. "If I didn't know he was married, I would've thought he was pursuing you. Last night, when I went to save you, he didn't even bother negotiating with me. He just said as long as I saved you, it'd be fine."

He chuckled. "Despite being a businessman, he's pretty vulnerable when he's not considering his interests. Doesn't he realize this?"

David was now sure of Jasper's weakness, glancing at Adeline again.

Adeline was indeed pretty, but not to the extent of being overwhelmingly beautiful. Was Jasper really willing to sacrifice everything for her?

David's words made Adeline's face turn pale.

Linda glared at him reproachfully. "Jasper pursuing Adeline? Give me a break! Even if the world collapses, it's impossible."

Adeline smirked, repeating the sentence.

"Yes, even if the world collapses, Jasper would never like me."

Despite being by his side every day and meticulously taking care of him, he never showed her any affection.

In the end, he abandoned her.

Her in the beginning, then Stella later on.

He was actually fickle.

Adeline believed that his current kindness toward Stella was probably mainly because he was moved by the fact she conceived two children for him.

Once he got tired of her, he'd still ruthlessly abandon her; just like he did to Adeline in the past.

He was truly unfaithful.

Unfortunately, even though he was, Adeline never received any of his favor.

Even if she changed her appearance, she still couldn't touch his heart.

"Mr. Foster, this is between me, Adeline, and Linda. It has nothing to do with you!"

In the distance, Zavier, who couldn't resist Jasper, forcefully shook off Jasper's hand.

As he took a tissue from Serena to wipe the blood off his face, he coldly glanced at Linda. "If you didn't want a divorce, you should've said so earlier. This morning, you signed it so smoothly. I thought you had self-awareness."

"However, I didn't expect you to come here in the evening to confront me and even let your best friend hit me."

Linda furrowed her eyebrows, her voice icy, "I didn't know you'd come here."

After speaking, she took a deep breath and looked at Adeline. "Can you help me bring the suitcase?"

Adeline nodded and dragged the suitcase over.

Linda smiled bitterly as she unzipped it.

In addition to the album Adeline had just seen, Linda had many wedding photos of her and Zavier in the compartment.

Trembling, she flipped through those photos one by one and threw them on the ground.

"I've been telling myself today that you're a traditional man, so your thoughts tell you that you can't accept a wife like me. Therefore, I was fine with it. Even if we divorced, I still cherish the memories you gave me."

"But now..."

She closed her eyes, tears streaming down her face. "I overestimated things. These memories, it turns out I was the only one holding onto them."

"You divorced me in the morning, found a new girlfriend in the afternoon, and you even brought her to the place we used to live that same afternoon…"

Linda continued, "Zavier, I feel unworthy of the times when I secretly admired you."

After that, she took a deep breath and glanced at David, who was preparing to watch the drama silently with a lighter. "Can I borrow the lighter?"

David shrugged. He walked over and squatted down, tearing off one of the photos that had Linda's most beautiful solo shot from the album. Then, he lit the other pictures up.

Finally, he handed the photo to Linda. "Keep it as a memento."

However, she shook her head. "Burn it."

She didn't need such a souvenir.

He lightly smirked, putting the photo in his pocket with slight interest in his eyes.

Afterward, the photos were set ablaze.

In the roaring flames, Zavier sneered, "Even if you didn't burn them, I would've."

Linda kept her eyes closed and remained silent.

After everything burned to ashes, she held Adeline's hand. "Let's go."

Adeline nodded, pushing Linda away. With David's help, Linda got into the car.

Zavier, on the other hand, snorted coldly and turned to leave.

But just as he took a few steps, Jasper stopped him.

He frowned. "Mr. Foster, what else do you want?"

Jasper chuckled coldly and shouted behind him, "Tim and Tom!"

Two tall and burly bodyguards rushed out. "Yes, Mr. Foster!"

Jasper asked, "Just now, did you see Zavier trying to hit Adeline?"

They replied, "We did, Sir."

He said, "Then I'll leave him to you."

After that, Jasper turned and got into a nearby black car.

Seeing him get into the car, Adeline realized that his car... had indeed been following her from the hospital.

She saw it at both the hotel entrance and outside the hospital.

Initially, she thought it was just a coincidence.

But, in fact... had he been following her since she left the house?

After sending Linda back to the hospital and settling everything, it was already past ten o'clock at night.

Leaving the hospital, Adeline sighed in relief.

Everything she had experienced today felt like a dream.

It cruelly didn't seem like something that could actually happen.

Adeline had always thought that compared to herself, Linda was lucky and happy.

Linda could be with Zavier, whom Adeline once secretly admired, loving each other; a happiness she couldn't reach.

However, with this sudden turn of events...

Fate made Linda a pitiful person just like her.

"Is she okay?"

Suddenly, Jasper's voice rang in Adeline's ears.

She snapped out of her thoughts and noticed the black car still parked downstairs at the hospital.

He was sitting in the passenger seat with the window open, his gaze fixed on her.

"She cried again, but now she's asleep and fine."

He nodded. "Get in the car. I'll take you for a late-night snack."

She touched her slightly deflated stomach. She, indeed, hadn't eaten properly all day.

He took her to a nearby small restaurant.

After settling in a private room, she glanced at his right hand, which was still hanging around his neck. "Do you want me to feed you?"

"No need."

He shook his head, picking up the chopsticks with his left hand before eating.

"I practiced a bit, so I can manage."

Afterward, he glanced at her indifferently. "Did Linda and Zavier's situation today make you lose faith in marriage?"

"I lost interest a long time ago."

"You've never been divorced, so how did that happen?"

Adeline chuckled. "I have been divorced before, and my ex-husband is a jerk."
