Chapter 585 We Need to Move Up Our Plan
Jasper's words made Adeline's hand shake like a leaf.
After a moment, she turned away. "Quit joking around."
Jasper's brows knitted together.
He lifted his pale hand, turned her face back to him, and made her look into his eyes. "Adeline, I've heard everything you've said while I've been out. Do you still hate me?"
Adeline set down the chicken soup, prising his hands away from her face with a frown. "I don't hate you anymore."
Jasper had saved their lives multiple times, nearly losing his own in the process. Adeline couldn't keep holding onto that old grudge and stay mad at him.
Plus, being around him lately had made her realize her true feelings. She still couldn't let go of Jasper.
But marrying him was a different story.
Jasper looked at her, his deep eyes filled with an emotion she couldn't quite read. "If you don't hate me, then why won't you marry me?"
Adeline took a deep breath and cut him off calmly. "Not hating you doesn't mean I have to marry you."
Seeing the shock in his eyes, Adeline began to speak slowly, "I once saw you as my world, my everything. But the car accident six years ago shattered all my feelings for you."
She gave him a bitter, self-mocking smile. "From the moment I married you without hesitation, you should have known that I value feelings deeply."
She added, "If I didn't truly like you, I wouldn't walk down the aisle with you."
She looked him straight in the eyes. "Now, I just don't hate you anymore."
Jasper was stunned. He stared at her, suddenly at a loss for words. He had done so many things to hurt her, why was he so confident to think that she would forgive all past grievances and even fall in love with him again?
Adeline saw the desolation in his eyes. She bit her lip, picked up the chicken soup, and brought it to his mouth. Jasper remained silent, his gaze fixed on her delicate face. The air between them grew so heavy it was hard to breathe.
Adeline quietly finished feeding him the chicken soup and got ready to head downstairs.
As she reached the door, Jasper's low, magnetic voice stopped her. "I know you don't hate me now, but you don't like me either."
He gave a bitter smile. "Adeline, you wouldn't refuse a fake marriage, would you?"
Adeline's steps halted.
Before Jasper fell into a coma, he had indeed proposed a fake marriage. If they acted like a loving couple, Molly would definitely make a move.
If Jasper's intention was a fake marriage, then what she said about her feelings must have sounded foolish. Seeing her standing there, not saying a word, Jasper sighed, a hint of sadness in his eyes. "Adeline, you know this is the best way to mess up Molly's plans."
His words snapped Adeline back to reality. She took a deep breath. "Fine. Let's set a date to get engaged."
With that, she closed the door and practically ran out. Jasper was left alone in the room.
He leaned back against the headboard, staring at the closed door, a self-mocking smile on his lips.
He remembered how thrilled Adeline had been when she found out he wanted to marry her. She couldn't sleep for days.
But now, even a fake marriage took so much out of her. He had lost the Adeline he once knew.
Two days later, the news of Jasper and Adeline's engagement and their wedding in a week hit the media like a bombshell.
Every outlet was covering it.
A reporter said, "One is the CEO, the other is the head of the design department. How did these two spark a romance? We interviewed the deputy director of the design department, Lucia!"
Lucia appeared on the screen. "Hi everyone, I'm Lucia. The love story of Adeline and Mr. Foster began a few months ago."
In a five-star hotel in Radiance Springs, Molly watched the news on the big screen and furiously smashed her glass on the floor.
Adeline and Jasper were engaged, with the wedding in a week.
When Jasper got engaged to her, she had waited five years without a wedding.
Molly glared at the TV showing pictures of Adeline and Jasper, her teeth grinding.
She couldn't just sit back and do nothing. If Adeline really married Jasper, it would be too late for her to act!
Thinking of this, she angrily picked up her phone and dialed a number. "Liam, get to my room now, I have something for you to do!"
On the other end, he didn't hesitate. "Yes."
Hanging up the phone, Bennett glanced at Sebastian, who was still eating, and sighed deeply. "Sebastian, take care. Mom is calling me."
Sebastian nodded and kept eating his bread without saying a word.
Molly had indeed kept her word and moved Sebastian to a different place as Bennett requested.
But she still made him go hungry every day. He could only eat enough when Bennett personally brought him food.
As he left the room, Bennett felt exhausted. Sometimes, he even felt like he wasn't Molly's son, but her slave. He couldn't feel any of the warmth that normal kids could.
A few minutes later, Bennett knocked on Molly's door. "Mom."
Molly snorted. "Come in"
Bennett silently entered the room.
Molly gave him a cold look. "Jasper and Adeline are engaged. We need to speed up our plan."
