Chapter 558 Why Did She Choose to Die?
As Jasper's words hung in the air, the mountaintop was dead silent except for the wind howling around them.
Luna narrowed her eyes, her cold gaze sweeping over Jasper before settling on Adeline beside him. She let out a mocking laugh. "You are lying."
Luna turned her head to look at Blake, who was tied to a rock with just three ropes, a bitter smile forming on her lips. "I've done too much; there's no way out for me!"
"You have no idea." Jasper took a deep breath. "Luna, you know it. If there's anyone who can clear your name and keep you safe, it's me."
Jasper took a step forward, his eyes softening a bit. "Luna, if you take Blake down with you now, it'll break my heart. But at the end of Blake's life, you'll die too. I don't believe you have no attachment to this world. If you let Blake go now and let Adeline take him away from Radiance Springs, I'll make sure you're taken care of."
Jasper's words made Luna bite her lip hard.
It was not that she didn't want to live! Luna was only twenty, and she had a long life ahead of her.
She just couldn't stand the poor life she once had. When she found out her bone marrow matched Blake's, she went to Scott and faked a terminal illness to get Jasper's company. She didn't actually want to die.
Luna raised her head, her eyes bloodshot as she stared at Jasper. "You're lying to me; you can't protect me. If you really wanted to, you wouldn't have exposed me, and I wouldn't be in this mess!"
Luna's gaze made Jasper's eyes deepen. He knew he had bet correctly.
Luna felt cornered, which led to this situation. But she didn't actually want to die. She was greedy. How could someone greedy let go of the world's splendor so easily?
Jasper took a deep breath, trying to keep his tone calm. "Luna, if you still have any attachment to this world, believe me; I'm your only chance."
He pulled an agreement from his pocket and showed it to Luna. "If you don't trust my word, we can sign this. If you let Blake go and come back with me, and I fail to protect or marry you, all the assets of the Foster Group will be yours."
Luna's eyes widened in shock.
Adeline, standing nearby, furrowed her brows.
When did Jasper draft and print this agreement? He'd been with her almost all day. How did she not know about this? If he couldn't protect Luna, he'd hand over all the Foster Group's assets. Wasn't this bet too big?
Luna said, "Come closer. I can't see clearly!"
From a distance, Luna squinted at the agreement in Jasper's hand, but the words were too small to make out.
Jasper's gaze stayed calm as he walked forward.
On the third step, Luna suddenly relized something and quickly threatened with a knife, "Stop!"
She couldn't let Jasper get any closer.
Jasper was a strong guy, and if he got close, Luna wasn't sure she could fend him off!
So, she squinted her eyes, placing the knife on the rope binding Blake as a threat. "Fix the agreement to the rock and throw it over!"
Jasper paused, his gaze turning cold. As he squatted down to pick up a rock, he chuckled lightly. "What are you worried about? I said I'd protect you and marry you, I won't lie. If you're so guarded against me now, do you plan to keep this up forever?"
Jasper's words had a hint of indulgence amidst the indifference.
Adeline had never heard Jasper talk to her like this.
She didn't know if what Jasper was saying to Luna now was sincere or if he was just improvising.
But Adeline knew one thing; whether it was true or false, she had never experienced such warmth from Jasper.
Jasper put the agreement and the rock into a bag and tossed it at Luna's feet.
As Luna bent down to pick up the agreement, Jasper turned his head and signaled to Adeline.
When Luna straightened up, he quickly turned his face away, his gaze carrying a hint of a smile as he looked at her.
Luna opened the agreement.
The terms were clearly written: [Jasper Foster is willing to protect Luna Jones, not let Luna Jones be taken away by foreign law enforcement. Jasper Foster will marry Luna Jones, taking care of Luna Jones for the rest of her life until her death. If that promise was broken, Jasper Foster will give all the assets of the Foster Group to Luna Jones.]
Looking at the agreement in her hand, Luna wavered.
She didn't actually want to die.
If Jasper could really help her escape the murder charges of Caroline and Lucas, and take care of her for the rest of her life, she wouldn't choose to die.
Luna raised her head, though her heart was wavering, her face remained cold. "Why did you make this agreement?"
"Because you know what I care about," Jasper answered without hesitation. "When we first met, what I cared about then is still what I care about now."
Luna's hand holding the agreement trembled.
When they first met, Jasper was desperate to get a bone marrow transplant for Blake and save his life.
At that time, Jasper thought Luna was really terminally ill, so when she asked for his company and to be her boyfriend, Jasper agreed without hesitation.
And all this time, Jasper treated Luna with great kindness. Except for emotions and physical intimacy, Jasper had given her everything a boyfriend could give a girlfriend. So if Luna really let Blake go this time, could they go back to the way things were?
Thinking of this, Luna bit her lip hard.
Although she knew Jasper was a man of his word, Luna still didn't think Jasper could easily forgive the person who tied Blake to the cliff.
"If you think I won't take care of you or protect you, you can sign the agreement and take all my assets." Seeing her hesitation, Jasper said lightly, "You won't lose anything with this agreement."
Luna was silent for a while, but in the end, she was tempted.
She put down the knife, picked up the plastic bag with the water-based pen, and tried to sign her name on the agreement, but the pen's ink was intermittent. Luna frowned; she was a bit annoyed as she signed the agreement stroke by stroke.
Watching her lower her head to write, Jasper squinted his eyes and took large strides towards her.
