Chapter 816 I Can Agree to Take Out Assets
Brandon handed Adeline a contract for the transfer of shares.
The contract stated that to help the Phoebe family through the current crisis, she was willing to contribute the shares and property her parents had set aside for her, standing with the Phoebe family through thick and thin.
As Adeline looked at the amount of assets Brandon was asking her to put up, her hands began to tremble.
She remembered when she first returned to the Phoebe family, Zara had told her... because Howard had lost her all those years ago, and she had been wandering outside for over twenty years, the Phoebe family owed her.
So, Zara and Howard had decided to set aside a portion of their assets for her as compensation.
At that time, Adeline had refused.
She was willing to return to the Phoebe family because of her bond with Zara, not because of the family's assets.
But she hadn't expected... Howard and Zara had indeed kept that compensation for her and had ordered that no one could touch those funds without Adeline's consent.
And the amount of assets set aside for Adeline was staggering.
Seeing Adeline's shocked expression, Brandon sighed and said calmly, "The assets our parents left for you... it's almost half of the Phoebe family's total assets."
"For nearly a year now, the Phoebe family has been fighting Jasper with only half of its assets. You can imagine how badly the Phoebe family has been targeted."
Oliver, standing nearby, shot Brandon a cold glance and sneered, "It's a good thing our parents decided to put half the assets in Adeline's name. Otherwise, you and Daisy would have squandered everything by now."
Over the past six months, although Oliver had claimed he wouldn't involve himself in the Phoebe family's affairs, he had been keeping an eye on the Phoebe Group's every move.
After all, despite his strained relationship with Howard, the Phoebe Group was something Zara had worked hard to preserve, and Oliver couldn't just ignore it.
But over the past six months, while Daisy appeared to be helping Howard, busying herself with the company's affairs, she had actually been tying the Phoebe Group to the Torres Group, making the two companies inseparable.
If the Torres family fell, the Phoebe family wouldn't survive either.
Oliver knew her little tricks but had been too lazy to intervene because he knew the Phoebe Group still had half of its assets with Adeline.
If Adeline signed off, those assets would be permanently sealed. Not even Howard and Zara could touch them.
But now, it was clear that Brandon and Daisy had set their sights on Adeline.
He couldn't stay silent any longer.
"Oliver, what are you saying?" Brandon narrowed his eyes. "Daisy may have made some mistakes in her investment decisions, but her intentions were good. She wanted to help the Phoebe Group recover."
"How can you call Daisy a spendthrift? Isn't that too harsh?"
Oliver sneered, "If you dare to do it, don't be afraid of being called out."
"Oliver."
Before Oliver could say more, Adeline looked up at him. "Since you know what they've done to the Phoebe Group, you must understand the current situation."
She took a deep breath, her eyes stinging as she looked at the astronomical figures on the contract. "Is the Phoebe Group really at the point where it can't operate without using these funds?"
Adeline's question brought silence to the room.
Even Oliver had to admit... the Phoebe Group's cash flow was indeed in dire straits.
He hadn't expected Howard to be so foolish.
Oliver's silence said it all.
Holding the contract, Adeline hesitated for a long time before finally taking a deep breath and looking up at Brandon and Daisy.
"I can sign this contract."
Brandon and Daisy's eyes lit up with joy!
They had come tonight to slander Jasper and drive a wedge between Adeline and Jasper.
Getting Adeline to sign and use these assets was something Brandon had planned to do after Zara passed away.
He had only brought it up as a pretext, not expecting Adeline to actually agree!
This was an unexpected bonus!
"Adeline."
Unlike Brandon and Daisy's excitement, Oliver frowned deeply. "Don't act impulsively."
"Have you considered that if these assets are used and still can't counter Jasper's attacks on the Phoebe Group... the Phoebe Group will have nothing left."
Even if the Phoebe Group went bankrupt, Adeline could still use these assets to take care of Howard and Zara for the rest of their lives.
The money was enough for the family to continue living comfortably.
If it was used to cover Howard and Daisy's losses... the consequences would be disastrous!
Adeline turned to Oliver with a smile. "But if we don't use this money, the Phoebe Group will go bankrupt, and the company my mother fought so hard to save will be gone."
Hearing Adeline's words, Brandon couldn't help but sigh. "Adeline, you see things clearly."
"I brought you this contract today because I knew you would understand."
"If you use these assets, the Phoebe Group and the Torres Group can work together. United, we can surely overcome the ruthless Foster Group."
He handed Adeline a pen and ink pad. "Don't worry, from now on, Daisy and I will be extremely cautious with every decision. We won't let the Phoebe Group suffer any more losses."
Adeline took the pen and ink pad but didn't rush to sign the contract.
She sat down, placing the contract, pen, and ink pad on the table, then looked steadily at Brandon and Daisy.
"I can sign this agreement, but I haven't stated my conditions yet."
She glanced at Zara. "Mom's condition tonight made me not want to discuss this."
"But Daisy, you and Brandon keep saying you care about Mom, yet you haven't even taken a close look at the wound on her back."
Her words were like a bucket of cold water, dousing Brandon and Daisy's excitement.
The two exchanged glances.
Finally, Brandon cleared his throat. "Adeline, we do care about Mom."
"It's just..."
"Stop pretending."
Adeline sneered. "I never imagined that while Mom was being framed, her back almost exposed to the bone, you two were thinking about..."
Her voice turned icy. "You were thinking about getting me to sign and use the Phoebe Group's money to cover your business failures over the past six months."
