Chapter 498 What Exactly is the Relationship?
After Violet and Ethan took off from Blue Bay, Adeline was left all alone in the living room, staring into the night.
With Blake and Lauren gone, Adeline was already having a hard time coping, and today’s events just made it worse. Her head felt like it was about to burst.
She sat on the couch for a bit, then got up and wandered around. She’d pour herself a glass of water in the kitchen, then go back to just staring at it under the light.
Ethan had suggested she chat with Luna to see if she’d spill anything about Molly, Sebastian, and Bennett. But Adeline knew Luna wouldn’t say a word.
Luna wanted her gone; the more Adeline suffered, the happier Luna was. Today, Luna had pushed her buttons on purpose, knowing how much Adeline cared about her kids.
There was no way Luna would share anything about Molly, Bennett, and Sebastian just because Adeline asked nicely.
Adeline was racking her brain, trying to figure out how to get Luna to talk, but she was coming up empty.
Then her phone rang. It was Vikram.
Vikram figured Adeline wouldn’t be sleeping, so he called to see if she wanted to go for a drive to clear her head.
“Forget it,” Adeline said, leaning back on the couch. She glanced at the clock; it was already early morning. She rubbed her temples, feeling helpless. “It’s too late.”
Vikram’s voice on the other end was full of concern. “But you’re not asleep, are you?”
Vikram knew how much Adeline cared about her kids.
“If only I didn’t have any dirt on Luna. If I had exposed her fake illness earlier, things wouldn’t be like this,” Vikram said, regret in his voice. “If I had spoken up sooner, Jasper wouldn’t think I was always siding with you and might have looked into it. Now, if I tell him Luna’s faking her illness, he definitely won’t believe me. And she’s got a diagnosis from a top medical team. Adeline, I really don’t know how to help you. If we had proof Luna was faking her terminal illness, we could nail her, but now…”
Vikram’s words made Adeline’s eyes light up.
If she had proof Luna was faking her illness, Luna would definitely spill about Molly, Bennett, and Sebastian to stay in Jasper’s good graces.
Even if Luna didn’t talk, Adeline could expose her fake illness to Jasper, who hated being lied to.
If he found out Luna was faking it, he wouldn’t trust or spoil her like he does now.
From today’s setup by Molly to send her to a mental hospital, Adeline was sure one of Molly’s goals was to get back at her.
If Luna lost Jasper’s trust and couldn’t help Molly with her revenge, Molly would have to come up with a new plan.
So, the top priority was to find proof Luna was faking her illness.
After that, whether to use the proof to threaten Luna or take her down, Molly would have to make her next move.
Thinking this, Adeline took a deep breath. “Vikram, where are you now?”
Vikram paused. “I’m at the hotel.”
“Come to Blue Bay,” Adeline said, her voice steady. “I want to go for a drive with you and talk about finding proof Luna’s faking her illness.”
Vikram's eyes went wide on the other end of the line. "Finding evidence that Luna's faking her illness? Adeline, are you nuts? The diagnosis came from Dr. Smith's team, one of the top international medical teams! Even Jasper believes it because of them. What kind of evidence are you gonna find? A diagnosis from some random doctor? Jasper won't buy it!"
Adeline grinned. "If Luna can get him to issue a fake diagnosis, I can get him to issue a real one."
Vikram paused. "What do you mean?"
"I mean, I want to get Luna's medical report, cover up her name, and have Dr. Smith re-diagnose it," Adeline explained.
Vikram was silent for a bit. After a long pause, he finally said, "I don't think your plan will work. But let's give it a shot; doing something is better than doing nothing."
Finally, Vikram sighed. "I'll come pick you up for a drive now."
"Okay, I'll wait for you," Adeline replied.
After hanging up, Adeline let out a long breath and went upstairs to change.
Outside Blue Bay, a black Maserati was quietly parked in the corner.
Sitting in the driver's seat, Jasper watched Adeline's figure going upstairs in the villa and sighed deeply. He had been there since after dinner, parked for six hours.
Jasper knew how important the kids were to Adeline. But the wounds on Blake's body weren't fake either.
Even though Blake had vehemently denied that Adeline was mentally unstable and violent, Jasper still felt it was safer for the kids to stay with him.
All night, as Jasper watched Adeline walk around and sit in the living room, looking lonely and helpless, he felt bad.
He had already scheduled the best medical team from abroad, Dr. Smith's team, to come and diagnose her. They would arrive in Radiance Springs in two days.
Once Adeline's illness was cured, Jasper would return the kids to her and let her take them far away.
Thinking of this, Jasper took one last look at the lights in the villa and was about to start the car when he saw the villa door open.
Adeline, now fully dressed, walked briskly out of the villa and headed towards Pine Street.
Jasper frowned and quickly started the car to follow her from a distance.
He didn't feel at ease with a mentally unstable woman going out alone.
Jasper secretly followed Adeline to Pine Street.
Adeline stood under a streetlamp, swatting mosquitoes and looking into the distance as if waiting for someone.
Just as Jasper was feeling heartbroken watching her, Vikram's sports car pulled up beside her.
"Why are you so slow?" Adeline's voice carried on the night breeze.
Vikram chuckled. "I just woke up; of course, I had to freshen up a bit."
Adeline rolled her eyes. "With our relationship, do you still need to freshen up?"
Vikram laughed. "It's precisely because our relationship is different that I want to leave a good impression on you!"
He started the car. "Hold on tight, beautiful; my speed is quite swift!"
With that, the dark blue sports car shot out like an arrow.
Jasper sat in his car, watching the direction Vikram and Adeline left, his eyes narrowing sharply.
Adeline said their relationship was such that he didn't need to freshen up.
Vikram said it was precisely because their relationship was different that he freshened up.
So, what exactly was the relationship between these two? They were dressed up and driving away together in the middle of the night?
