Chapter 728 I'll Leave First, Farewell

Jasper didn't answer Oliver's question. He just stared out the window, lost in thought, looking in Brandon's direction.

Seeing Jasper's silence, Oliver pressed on, "Adeline doesn't want to see you, but she's willing to see Brandon. Do you think she trusts him more?"

Joseph, standing nearby, frowned at Oliver's words. "Mr. Phoebe, that's a bit harsh."

Joseph thought to himself, 'Mr. Foster must already be feeling awful, and Dad's saying this?'

Surprisingly, Jasper spoke up calmly, "You're right. She does trust Brandon more."

Jasper's response made Oliver and Joseph exchange a surprised glance. Neither of them had expected Jasper to admit that.

Turning around, Jasper looked at the two shocked, "Is it really that hard to understand? I've failed Adeline in countless ways. I wasn't there for her when she was hurt and gave birth six years ago. Even when she brought the kids to me later, I repeatedly hurt her. It's only natural she trusts Brandon—the man who saved her, helped her change her appearance, and raised her three children."

Jasper's candidness made Oliver's eyes narrow slightly. Typical of the Foster family. Clear-cut in love and hate.

Oliver said, "Brandon helping Adeline with her appearance might not have been for her benefit."

Jasper raised an eyebrow and glanced at Oliver, "What are you getting at?"

Before Oliver could respond, a calm voice came from a distant booth, "Adeline, long time no see."

Jasper frowned and instinctively looked towards Brandon. Adeline, without any makeup and wearing an olive-green trench coat, was sitting across from Brandon.

From Jasper's angle, he could clearly see the serene and trusting look in Adeline's eyes as she gazed at Brandon. Jasper's face tightened with silent tension.

He didn't think it was wrong for Adeline to trust Brandon. After all, Brandon was good at pretending. He had been by Adeline's side for six years, genuinely helping her a lot. Adeline, being a deeply emotional woman, trusted him and couldn't see the schemes behind his gentle facade. It wasn't her fault. The blame lay with him for giving her too little to trust.

Adeline smiled gently at Brandon, "I'm sorry it took so long to meet you. When I chose to postpone the engagement, I should have met you in person. But I wasn't in a good state at the time."

Brandon smiled faintly and pushed a glass of lemon water towards her, "It's okay. The arrangements that night were rushed, and I didn't give you time to deal with your relationship with Jasper. It was my fault. It's normal that you didn't want to see me."

Brandon's words made Adeline feel even more guilty. She bit her lip, "It's not that I didn't want to see you, but..."

But during those days, she was dealing with severe early pregnancy symptoms and couldn't see anyone. Additionally, Mia, following the advice of the three kids, kept a strict watch over her, not allowing her to meet anyone.

Brandon didn't seem to care why Adeline hadn't wanted to see him. He smiled lightly and pushed a jewelry box towards her, "It's okay. Take a look."

From a distance, Jasper and the others couldn't see what was inside the jewelry box.

Joseph, leaning against the window, whispered, "Could it be a wedding ring?"

Jasper frowned, carefully observing Adeline's expression, "No."

If it were an engagement ring, Adeline's expression wouldn't be so serious. Her current expression seemed to be scrutinizing something lost and found, determining if it was the original.

Joseph glanced at Jasper, "How do you know it's not?"

Jasper ruffled Joseph's hair, "I just know."

"Because you love her, right?" Joseph asked.

"Yes."

Oliver, watching Jasper, shook his head helplessly. He took a sip of his coffee. He could read Mia's inner thoughts from her expressions. To say he loved her? Pure fantasy. So, being able to read someone's inner thoughts from their expressions didn't require any feelings.

"Brandon, I'm sure this isn't the one I lost."

Adeline closed the jewelry box and pushed it back to Brandon, a hint of helplessness in her eyes, "I know you put a lot of effort into this. But this isn't the one I'm looking for."

Brandon feigned surprise, "It's not? My people searched the sewers for over ten days. How could it not be..."

Adeline pursed her lips, "Are you sure they really searched for ten days?"

As a designer, she had a keen sense for jewelry. After careful observation and touch, she could even estimate the production date of the jade ring. This ring seemed to have been made no more than three days ago. Brandon's claim that his people searched for ten days was impossible. And given the cost of such a jade ring, Brandon's subordinates couldn't afford to fake it. So, this ring must have been made by Brandon himself to deceive her.

Therefore, seeing Brandon's surprised expression, she felt he was somewhat insincere. She didn't understand why Brandon, who had always been honest with her, would use a fake ring to fool her.

Facing Adeline's questioning, Brandon frowned. He suddenly remembered she was a genius jewelry designer.

Brandon's knuckles turned white as he gripped the jewelry box, "Adeline, I just really wanted to see you..."

"Well, now you've seen me."

Taking a deep breath, Adeline looked steadily at Brandon, "I guess you know Randy and the Torres family are looking for me everywhere. And Daisy Phoebe is also searching for me all over the city for some reason. You knew I was in danger, yet you used a fake item to lure me out just because you wanted to see me."

Adeline stood up, "I'm not blaming you, but I just feel that you're not the same Brandon I used to know, who always considered others first. I'll be going now. Goodbye."
