Chapter 7 The Unbearable Past
Adeline lifted her lips, "Mr. Foster, are you joking with me? As a woman who has ulterior motives towards you, with a name that is even a copy of your ex-wife, are you sure you want to hire me?"
Jasper knew that Adeline was mocking his previous attitude towards her. He slightly squinted.
If it weren't for Lauren having just returned and him not being able to figure out this child's temper, he wouldn't have put aside his pride and come here to find this scheming woman.
When he came, he had already looked through her information.
A woman who returned from abroad, with no worries about food or clothing, suddenly applies to be a maid in Blue Bay?
It wasn't just about him, but also about having some ulterior motives towards the Foster Group, what else could it be?
"Wow."
Just as the two were standing at the door, a voice of astonishment came from the neighbor across the hallway, "Is that... Mr. Foster?"
Jasper's business was extensive, and he often appeared in financial news. There weren't many people in Denver who didn't recognize him.
The voice of the man behind him made Jasper's brows furiously furrow.
The next moment, he grabbed Adeline's arm and pulled her to the side, striding into the room.
"Bang!" The door closed.
A voice from outside the door came from the neighbor, "Did you see wrong?"
"A big shot like Mr. Foster, how could he come to our poor neighborhood and be stopped by a woman at the door?"
As he was already inside, Adeline decided to offer some hospitality.
"Tea," she offered.
"Yeah. Earl Grey please," Jasper casually requested.
Jasper noticed the unfamiliarity in Adeline's eyes as he mentioned the tea. He realized that she had misunderstood his intention. Realizing this, Adeline smiled and said, "So Mr. Foster's ex-wife used to like Earl Grey."
When they first got together, Adeline had discovered that Jasper liked Earl Grey tea, so she had told him that she also liked it. If only he had paid closer attention back then, he would have noticed that the tea she drank was actually Earl Grey Tea.
"You did it on purpose," the man said, placing his teacup down.
The cup crashed forcefully onto the glass-topped coffee table, making a loud "bang."
Jasper's deep, bottomless eyes coldly stared at Adeline's face, "What exactly do you want, going through all this trouble to imitate my wife?"
Adeline calmly sat across from him, poured herself a cup of tea and asked, "What does Mr. Foster think my intentions are?"
"I admire her, so I want to become her."
"Or perhaps I admire you and want to learn how to please you."
"Which of these two answers do you prefer?"
Jasper squinted his eyes fiercely, "If your intention is me, I advise you to give up."
Adeline let out a small yawn, "That's because you don't really like her. No matter how much I learn from her, I won't be able to win your heart, right?"
Jasper stared at her coldly without saying a word.
His gaze didn't make Adeline flinch and she continued smiling and spoke, "Mr. Foster, if I wanted to please you, shouldn't I learn from your fiancée? After all, she managed to turn her former brother-in-law into her future husband. You must have deep feelings for her."
This statement made Jasper's eyebrows furrow deeply.
After a while, he stared at Adeline and emphasized each word, "I got engaged to Molly because it was my wife's wish."
"Did she specifically request that before her death?"
Adeline crossed her legs, appearing calm on the surface, but her heart trembled inside!
After they had treated her so cruelly back then, they still had the audacity to say that it was her dying wish!
Keeping her hand steady as she held the teacup, she lowered her head and took a sip, "Your wife was so kind-hearted. Even at the brink of death, she wanted to offer her husband to someone else."
Jasper's gaze suddenly turned cold and stern.
He coldly stared at Adeline's face, "Remember your position. I don't want to hear such things again in the future."
After saying that, he took out his phone and dialed a number.
Before long, the door was knocked on and opened.
Ryan came in, holding an agreement. He placed it on the coffee table and said, "Miss Wilson, this is the employment contract. If you have any dissatisfaction, feel free to voice it, and we'll try our best to accommodate you."
Adeline picked up the agreement and started reading it.
"Being a maid is just my part-time job," the woman casually pointed to a clause in the contract, "But in the short term, I will still focus most of my energy on Lauren."
Then, she discussed some detailed terms and provided solutions.
Adeline and Ryan engaged in a lively conversation.
As for Jasper, he remained seated in the corner, cold and silent, with his gaze drifting into the distance, pondering who knows what.
Half an hour later, the contract negotiation was completed.
Adeline picked up the pen and started to write her name with great determination. This signature represented the success of her plan to infiltrate Blue Bay. Just as Jasper was about to leave after signing the contract, his phone rang.
"Sir," the voice of the butler on the other end of the line sounded urgent, "Miss Molly has arrived!"
"She directly dragged Miss Lauren out of the room, claiming she is an imposter! Please hurry back!"
