Chapter 766 The Final Farewell
"Yeah, Oliver's right."
Before Zara could respond to Oliver's question, Adeline had already pushed the door open and walked in.
Adeline smiled at Zara, who was leaning against the headboard, and gently took her hand.
"Mom, you just need to focus on getting better."
"Don't worry about my problems anymore."
Before coming here, she had clearly heard the servants talking about how Zara and Howard had argued last night because of her.
Zara was naturally kind-hearted, always putting others first no matter the situation.
When she found out Howard didn't like her, she took the initiative to break off the engagement.
When Esther passed away and Howard was out of his mind, she stepped in to help the Phoebe family.
Even after marrying Howard, she allowed him to keep a place for Esther in their home.
She had always sacrificed for Howard in the past.
Now, she wanted to sacrifice for her daughter, Adeline.
Adeline felt a deep ache for her mother. "Mom, things between Jasper and me aren't as perfect as you think."
"I came back to the Phoebe family partly because of you, but also because Jasper didn't value me enough."
"So..."
She took a deep breath, looking seriously at Zara. "Promise me you won't worry about these things anymore. Returning to the Phoebe family was my own choice."
"If Jasper and I are meant to be, we'll find a way to be together."
Zara closed her eyes and sighed deeply. "Alright."
"I won't bring it up or interfere anymore."
Adeline sighed, comforting Zara until she fell asleep, then left the room, exhausted.
"Need a ride home?"
Oliver closed the door behind him and asked softly.
Adeline was silent for a moment before taking a deep breath. "Take me to Swan Villa."
"I promised Dennis I'd visit Jasper at Swan Villa."
She forced a bright smile at Oliver. "Let's go now. It's time to end things with Jasper."
She had once believed the conflict between the Phoebe family and the Foster family could be resolved.
But after spending the entire night at Wilford's memorial, she realized some things were beyond her control.
The Phoebe family and the Foster family were separated by two lives.
Since she had decided to return to the Phoebe family, she had to cut ties with Jasper.
Otherwise, everyone would suffer.
Adeline's words made Oliver frown slightly. "Are you sure?"
"Yes."
Adeline chuckled softly. "Right now, my mother is the most important thing to me."
Oliver gave her a long, deep look before sighing and arranging for a driver to take her to Swan Villa. Then he returned to the hospital room.
Inside, Zara, who had been asleep, opened her eyes when Oliver came back.
She looked at him deeply. "Did she go home?"
"No."
Oliver frowned. "She went to see Jasper."
"Said she wanted to clear things up with him."
Zara closed her eyes and sighed. "That stubborn girl."
"I'm just a mother she recently reunited with. I'm not worth such sacrifices."
Oliver frowned and took Zara's hand. "You are worth it."
"If I were Adeline, I'd make the same decision."
Zara's life had been so heartbreaking. Yet she believed she was happy.
"Don't say that."
Zara gave Oliver a reproachful look and sighed. "I can't persuade Adeline... How about this, after she talks to Jasper, secretly bring him here. I want to meet him formally and discuss how to get Adeline to leave Oceancrest City with him."
Oliver laughed helplessly. "Mom, Adeline said not to interfere."
Zara's eyebrows shot up. "How can I not?"
"Do you want to see your sister end up unhappy like me?"
Oliver sighed. "Alright."
"I'll go to Swan Villa now. Once Adeline leaves, I'll bring Jasper to see you."
With that, he left.
As soon as he opened the door, he bumped into a flustered Daisy.
Oliver frowned. "When did you get here?"
"I just arrived."
Daisy smiled awkwardly, holding up a bag of fruit. "I heard Mom was in the hospital, so I brought some fruit to see her!"
Oliver glanced coldly at the fruit basket in her hand.
"Mom raised you for over twenty years, and you don't know she's allergic to dragon fruit?"
Daisy froze, then noticed the bright red dragon fruit in the basket.
She quickly pulled it out and tossed it in the trash. "I was in a hurry and didn't notice."
Oliver gave her a cold look before turning to leave.
"Mom's not well. Don't disturb her for too long."
"I know."
Daisy watched Oliver leave, a smug smile playing on her lips.
When Adeline arrived at Swan Villa, the yard was bustling.
Nova, in her uniform, was washing herbs with Joseph.
The two kids were laughing and playing as they worked.
In the distance, Blake, Bennett, and Lauren were sitting in a row, each wrapped in one of Jasper's jackets, watching the younger kids.
Adeline's heart ached at the sight of the three pale, sickly children sitting in the corridor.
She knew they must have caught colds from being out in the rain with Jasper that night.
Thinking of her own coldness that night, she didn't even have the courage to hug them.
She wasn't a good mother.
"Mommy!"
As Adeline hesitated at the door, Lauren spotted her.
Lauren, not holding a grudge from that night, dropped her jacket and ran across the yard to hug Adeline.
"Mommy!"
"You finally came!"
"Daddy promised us yesterday morning that you'd come see us. We didn't believe him when you didn't show up yesterday."
"But you're really here today!"
Lauren hugged Adeline's leg excitedly and called out to her siblings.
"Blake, Bennett!"
"Come here! Mommy's here!"
The two identical boys walked over coolly.
Blake looked up at Adeline. "Are you here to say goodbye to us?"
