Chapter 131 Bennett, Take Care of Your Sister
At that moment, Adeline's mind was a tumultuous roar.
Who was this woman in front of her?
"Adeline."
The woman lifted her head, her face streaked with tears, "I once considered you a close friend. I shared everything with you. I even entrusted you with the care of my two children.
"Is this how you repay me? You abducted my twins!"
Hate flickered in her eyes as she glared at Adeline, "You've made me suffer so much! Do you have any idea what I've been through these years?"
After speaking, she lunged forward, desperately grabbing Adeline by the throat, "What do you want from me to be satisfied?
"I wish I could peel your skin off to soothe the pain of losing my children for six years!"
Adeline stumbled backward, her back slamming "thud" against the ornate metal door behind her, the carvings digging painfully into her spine.
The woman's hands clamped tight on her neck, strangling, "I just wish you were dead!"
Adeline went blank for a moment before lowering her voice, "Who are you?"
Why did she have a face identical to the one from her past? How could she claim her child was hers?
"I am Adeline, the real Adeline!" the woman asserted.
Her voice, usually tender, was now laced with hatred. "Don't you dare try to deceive Jasper or fool me and the children! You wicked woman!"
"Mommy!"
Bennett was stunned for a while before snapping back to reality.
He rushed forward, tugging at the woman's arm in desperation, "Let go of my mommy!"
"Let her go!"
"She's not your mommy. I am!"
The woman shot Bennett a glare and continued to squeeze Adeline's throat, showing no signs of relenting.
Lauren, who was in the distance, hurried over as well.
The two children, one on each side, pulled at the woman's arms but couldn't pry them off.
This woman...
She was so strong!
Bennett furrowed his brows and met Lauren's gaze.
The siblings exchanged a look and then, simultaneously, grabbed the woman's arms and bit down hard.
"Ah!"
The woman's scream echoed throughout Blue Bay.
In pain, she finally released her grip on Adeline.
"Adeline!"
Jasper hadn't expected the kids to resort to biting.
He frowned deeply and rushed forward, enveloping the woman in his arms. "Are you okay?"
Meanwhile, Adeline slumped down against the door, collapsing onto the floor.
Bennett and Lauren, one on each side, gathered around her, "Does it hurt?"
Jasper glanced at the kids with a tight frown.
There, the woman was crying profusely in his embrace, "Jasper, I knew it! She's a kidnapper, but the kids have been with her for so long that they've come to see her as their real mother. They don't like me."
Her tearful state tugged at Jasper's heartstrings.
He scrunched his brows and soothed her softly, "It's okay. After spending some time together, the bond will grow.
"Our kids are kind and understanding. Once we explain everything, they won't take sides blindly."
The woman nodded, her head bowed as she sobbed.
No one saw the flicker of triumph in her eyes as she lowered her head.
"Miss Wilson."
After settling "Adeline" in, Jasper approached Adeline and looked at her, seated on the ground, his voice frosty, "Do you know what kind of sentence kidnapping counts for?"
Adeline lifted her head. "Kidnapping?"
"Isn't that what it is?" The man squatted down, his eyes carrying fury. "Bennett and Lauren are mine and Adeline's children.
"Six years ago, you took advantage of Adeline's distraction and stole her two children, passing them off as your own. Isn't that the truth?"
He glanced down at the steel watch on his wrist. "The police will be here any minute.
"Considering you never mistreated Bennett and Lauren, and you even risked your life for Lauren, I'll put in a good word for you in court.
"But you won't escape the punishment you deserve!"
The man's words had barely finished echoing when the sound of sirens filled the air.
Adeline let out a bitter laugh. "So you really believe that woman's word over mine?"
"She is my wife," Jasper said coldly.
Adeline found it almost laughable.
When had he ever cared about her like this? Everything she used to say and do around him was nothing more than background noise.
And now, he was so obedient to an impostor.
Taking a deep breath, she scoffed, "Are you sure she's your lady?"
"Of course I am." The woman sitting on the couch wiped away a tear and lifted a face identical to Adeline of the past. "Or are you perhaps claiming to be?"
Adeline swept her gaze across the woman with indifference. "What if I am?"
"Adeline, I knew it! You're trying to impersonate me! Six years ago, you stole my children; now you want to take my husband!"
Adeline furrowed her brow. She was about to say something when the butler entered with the police.
"Which one of you is Miss Adeline?"
Adeline sighed softly, struggling to her feet from the floor. "That would be me."
She had just returned from the police station, not expecting that shortly after entering the house, she would have to go back.
But this time, she would return as a criminal.
"Don't arrest my mommy!"
Lauren bit her lip and finally spoke out.
She stretched out her arms, shielding Adeline like a small hawk. "She's my mommy, not a kidnapper! I need to protect my mommy!"
The little girl's gesture made Jasper's brows furrow deeply.
No wonder Lauren had always been hesitant to mention Adeline and had shown her such affection.
It turned out that, like Bennett, she had come to see Adeline as her mommy.
The man sighed, stepped forward, and scooped up Lauren in his arms. "You're still young; you don't understand adult matters."
"How do I not understand?" Lauren struggled fiercely in his embrace. "I need to protect Mommy; I got to protect my mommy!"
Her squirming only deepened Jasper's frown. "Cops."
Compared to Lauren's impulsiveness, Bennett was remarkably composed.
He looked at the two officers seriously. "Until things are cleared up, my mommy is just a suspect."
"Please be respectful to my mommy, otherwise..." His gaze shifted coldly, projecting an aura of aloof pride. "I am the son of Mr. Jasper; you know the consequences of upsetting me and my sister."
The police officers couldn't help but smile in the face of the kid's commanding demeanor. "Kid, don't worry. We're just taking her to clarify some stuff; there’s nothing to be all worked up about."
Adeline took a deep breath as she watched the cold metal handcuffs clasp around her wrists. "Bennett, take care of your sister."
