Chapter 234 I Miss Them a Bit
Jasper paused slightly with the cutlery in his hand.
He finally chuckled. "Because you were divorced and your ex-husband was a jerk, so you secretly took Bennett and Lauren back to raise them?"
Adeline picked up the cup. She gulped the warm water, then looked at Jasper. "Sort of."
Jasper smirked. "Why didn't you have children with your ex-husband when you were together?"
"He didn't deserve it."
Setting down the cup, Adeline continued to pick up the cutlery to eat. "He cheated on me when I needed him the most and even tried to kill me to please his other woman."
Adeline added, "Do you think he deserves me?"
If Adeline hadn't been pregnant, she would not have wanted to have children with Jasper.
Jasper didn't deserve it.
Even after giving birth to the children later, Adeline always believed the children were hers alone.
Nothing to do with Jasper.
As Adeline spoke, she stared firmly at Jasper.
The look in the Adeline's eyes puzzled him.
It was as if Jasper was the man who abandoned her and hurt her.
Jasper furrowed his brows and turned his face away without looking at her. "And then? You just let him go?"
Adeline coldly smirked. "I don't want to let him go."
She continued, " But he's too powerful for me to do anything about it for now."
Jasper nodded lightly. "If you need anything, you can find me."
Jasper's demeanor made Adeline purse her lips mockingly. "Sure."
They finished their meal with their thoughts.
When they returned to the hotel, Adeline saw Stella waiting at the entrance.
Stella's slender figure stood at the door, exuding a sense of lonely fragility in the dim light.
As they approached, Adeline noticed that Stella's eyes were red as if she had been crying.
The car stopped at the hotel entrance.
Jasper got out of the car first.
Stella rushed into Jasper's arms. Her voice tinged with tears. "Jasper, you're finally back! I had a nightmare!"
Stella's silly look amused Jasper. "You don't have to wait in front of the hotel in your pajamas if you had a nightmare."
Jasper gently pinched Stella's nose, then embraced her into the hotel.
At the moment the door opened, he subconsciously glanced back.
The car was still there, quiet.
Adeline had never gotten out of the car.
Jasper sighed almost imperceptibly and then led Stella into the hotel.
Adeline sat in the back of the car for a long time.
"Aren't you getting out?" Ryan glanced at her helplessly from the driver's seat. "It has been a while. Mr. Foster and Mrs. Foster should have retired to their chambers by now."
Only then did Adeline come to her senses.
She glanced at Ryan. "Do you have a cigarette? Give me one."
Ryan scolded her with a look, "You still smoke?"
"I don't."
Adeline sighed. "But I kind of want to smoke."
The following day, Ryan woke Adeline up early.
Due to Linda's situation, Jasper had postponed several meetings scheduled for yesterday afternoon in Radiance Springs.
So, he had to return to Radiance Springs early today and many things were waiting for him to handle.
Adeline sat in the passenger seat on the way back to Radiance Springs, taking another deep look at the city.
She had spent twenty years living here.
She didn't know how long it would take to return.
"According to our reporter on the scene, Morris Quinn of the Quinn Group has been accused by multiple companies of using unfair means in business competition for many years. If true, Morris Quinn could face life imprisonment."
The radio in the car kept playing news about the Quinn Group these days.
"Before Morris went to jail, the only heir of the Quinn Group, Evelyn, committed suicide by jumping off a building. The Quinn Group is in disarray, and the building is about to collapse."
Adeline closed her eyes.
She wondered if Linda would hear this news.
If Linda did, at least it might bring her a little comfort.
She checked her phone to see whether Linda had messaged her, but Zavier had updated her.
"I'm currently at the police station getting my injuries examined. The Phoebe Family better watch out! I will demand compensation!"
The accompanying pictures showed Zavier with a swollen face and arms from being beaten.
Without a doubt, Adeline knew it was the work of Tim and Tom last night.
Adeline looked at the photos on her phone for a long time before finally liking the two pictures Zavier sent.
"Ryan, turn off the radio." Stella's feeble voice emerged from the rear seat.
Stella added, "I want to rest for a while."
"Why are you so pale? You’re not feeling well?" said Jasper, his worried voice rising.
The affectionate voices of these two made Adeline roll her eyes silently as she turned her gaze out the car window.
Ryan quickly turned off the broadcast about the Quinn Family news.
Stella, hiding in Jasper's arms, closed her eyes and grunted in the back seat.
It was all Adeline's fault!
Stella had planned everything well before. Once she had completely transformed into Adeline's face, she would go to Radiance Springs to find Jasper and become the woman he loved the most.
She never expected that by the time she returned to Jasper from abroad in high spirits, he would have an Adeline and two little bastards by his side.
If it weren't for Adeline and her two children, she would have been living happily ever after with Jasper by now.
But what was the result?
Up to now, Jasper still treated her with indifference. Although Jasper had never truly wanted to abandon her, his eyes no longer held the same warmth for her as he did for Adeline initially.
Returning to Victoria Hollow City, Stella thought this was her territory and could ruin Adeline.
However, she lost a puppet that could impersonate her, overthrew Gabriel, imprisoned Morris, and brought the Quinn Family to its knees!
Thinking of this, Stella felt a deep hatred.
It was all Adeline's fault!
If it weren't for Adeline, none of this would have happened!
The Quinn family wouldn't have fallen!
No, the Quinn Family didn't fall.
The Quinn Family still had her as the final trump card.
She would win Jasper's heart again if she got rid of Adeline and those little bastards. After that, the Quinn Family would soon return to its former splendor.
Thinking about this, Stella felt an intense drive of will.
In any case, Stella was determined to get rid of the thorn in her side-Adeline!
The car drove all morning and finally arrived at Radiance Springs at noon.
Adeline had slept the whole way.
When she woke up, she saw a message from Linda on her phone.
David transferred Linda to a new sanatorium.
Linda sent Adeline the sanatorium photos. The yard looked beautiful with mountain cherry trees flowering.
After responding to Linda, Adeline stretched in the passenger seat. "Ryan, just drop me off when we pass by Willowcrest Terrace."
Bennett and Lauren texted her in the morning telling her they would wait at Willowcrest Terrace.
"Adeline."
As soon as Adeline finished speaking, Stella suddenly spoke up in the back seat. "Bennett and Lauren are still here, right?"
"Give them a call and ask them to wait downstairs. Let them in when I pull up."
"I haven't seen the kids in a while and miss them dearly. I'd like to have them home for a few days."
Stella glanced at Adeline's pale face through the rearview mirror. "You've never had children, so you might not understand the longing of a mother who's been separated from her kids for so long."
Stella continued, "But you're so kind. You shouldn't refuse my request, right?"
Stella glanced at Jasper. "Darling, you miss them, too, right? It's been so long since the four of us were together. We should reunite, shouldn't we?"
