Chapter 578 It was Bennett

"Jasper!" Adeline screamed, her voice echoing across the beach.

She was shaking, her teeth clenched as she pressed down on his wound to stop the bleeding, fumbling with her phone to dial 911.

"Please, hurry! Someone's hurt on the beach!"

The sight of Jasper's blood pooling around them overwhelmed her, making it nearly impossible to articulate the severity of the situation. "You'll see us as soon as you get here, please hurry."

The operator on the other end paused. "Is it on the beach? We got a call about ten minutes ago. An ambulance is on the way."

Jasper's injury had just happened! How could someone have called already?

She didn't have time to think about it. She hung up and pressed harder on Jasper's wound. "Jasper, you have to hang in there!"

Jasper, who had been barely conscious, slowly opened his eyes. He saw her worried face and managed a weak smile.

He moved his lips, trying to say something.

With the wind and waves crashing around them, Adeline could barely hear him. She leaned in closer, straining to catch his words.

"Happy birthday," he whispered.

Those two simple words made her tears flow even more.

She wiped her face, smearing his blood across her cheeks. "You're still wishing me a happy birthday? If it weren't for me, you wouldn't be like this."

His old wounds were because of her. His new wounds were because she had left the party, and he had come after her.

Even now, he was wishing her a happy birthday. She felt she didn't deserve it at all.

Seeing her tear-streaked face, Jasper gave a weak smile. "Sorry. It's the first time I celebrated your birthday."

If he had known, he wouldn't have gone along with Lauren's plan.

Adeline sobbed, not daring to touch the knife in his stomach, just pressing on the wound to slow the bleeding.

"Jasper, if you really feel sorry, you have to hold on. I have many more birthdays in the future," She continued, "Next time, no matter what you plan, I won't get mad. I'll go along with it, okay?"

Tears cascaded down her cheeks, mingling with the blood that stained them both.

Jasper gave a bitter smile, reaching out to touch her face. "I'll try."

Finally, the sound of an ambulance reached them. Adeline stood up, waving frantically. The medics rushed towards them, they quickly assessed Jasper's condition and lifted him onto a stretcher, moving with practiced urgency.

A few bodyguards who had been knocked out nearby were also loaded onto the ambulance.

The doctor told her to keep him awake, not to let him pass out or go into shock, or it could be life-threatening. From the beach to the hospital, Adeline clung to Jasper's hand, talking non-stop.

"Jasper, I know everything now. I believe you don't like Luna. You did it for Blake, right?"

She kept going. "If you had told me earlier, I wouldn't have misunderstood and hated you. You wouldn't be like this."

He struggled to speak. "But back then, I wanted you to hate me."

At that time, he thought that between him and Adeline, there would always be the tragedy of Bennett in this lifetime.

In such a situation, making her hate him and leave him was the best choice.

Using his last bit of strength, he squeezed Adeline's hand. "Now, I hope you can have a fake marriage with me."

He closed his eyes, fighting to get the words out. "For Bennett."

Adeline froze.

All along, he wanted her to have a fake marriage with him. But she had misunderstood his words and interpreted them in the worst possible way.

Adeline bit her lip, tears streaming down her face. "I'm sorry."

There were so many things she needed to apologize for.

Jasper smiled weakly. "Actually, it's always been me who should apologize to you."

As they exchanged apologies, the ambulance arrived at the hospital. Jasper was rushed into the operating room.

Adeline sat alone outside the operating room, staring at the "surgery in progress" light, her heart feeling like it was being squeezed.

"Mrs. Foster."

Ryan came rushing out of the elevator, almost tripping in his haste.

"Is Mr. Foster okay?"

Adeline shook her head. She looked up at Ryan. "Where did you go just now?"

Ryan sighed, sitting down in frustration, hitting his head in self-blame. "After you left the beach, the guests all dispersed. Lauren kept crying."

He added, "Mr. Foster couldn't keep comforting her, so he asked me to personally take Lauren and Blake back to Blue Bay."

He continued, "I left a few bodyguards on the beach to protect Mr. Foster and took them back myself."

He kept hitting his head. "As soon as I left Blue Bay, I heard Mr. Foster was in trouble. It's all my fault, I didn't protect him well."

"I shouldn't have agreed to let him get a cortisone shot, ignoring his wound to prepare the birthday party. I shouldn't have left him alone," he said.

Adeline sat there, watching Ryan beat himself up, her heart aching.

After a while, Ryan stopped and looked up at Adeline. "You were the first to arrive at the beach after Mr. Foster got into trouble."

He took a deep breath. "Did you see anyone suspicious?"

Instantly, her spine went cold. The only person she saw on the beach was Bennett.
