Chapter 420 Does Luna Like to Pretend to Be Sick?
Adeline scrunched up her face, looking all puzzled. "Wait, how'd you know Jasper's laid up in the hospital?"
If Luna hadn't spilled the beans, she, even as a company insider, would've been clueless about Jasper's situation.
Why on earth would Blake, who's supposed to be chilling at home, know about Jasper being hospitalized?
"I told him." Before Blake could even get a word in, Vikram's voice cut through the air.
Adeline turned towards the voice, eyebrows still knitted.
It was Vikram, rocking a red suit, leaning casually against the doorframe with a smirk on his face.
"Yeah, it was Vikram who filled me in," Blake's voice came through the phone. "He said we're all family and should check in on him. Vikram even offered to drive us there."
Adeline shot a glance at Vikram by the door and couldn't help but ask, "Since when did you two get all buddy-buddy?"
Last night at dinner, Blake and Vikram were practically at each other's throats.
Seeing Adeline's confusion, Vikram just grinned. "Guys can bond real quick. Plus, Blake and I are cousins, so it's kinda natural."
Vikram strolled over, took the phone from Adeline, and smiled. "Don't worry, I'll look after your mom."
Blake, hearing Vikram's reassuring tone, finally exhaled and nodded. "Thanks."
With that, Blake hung up the phone.
Adeline, still in shock, looked at Vikram. "This is the first time I've seen Blake warm up to someone so fast."
Vikram chuckled. "Must be my charm."
Truth was, he didn't know about Jasper's illness either. Blake had reached out to him first.
Blake had already figured Adeline would question how he knew about Jasper, so he and Vikram had cooked up this story.
Blake said, "I know you're not the one who donated bone marrow to me, but since my mom thinks it's you, I don't want to blow the cover."
Thinking back to Blake's call that afternoon, Vikram couldn't help but shiver.
Blake was only six, but his smarts and calmness were on par with Jasper's! He had methodically broken down why Vikram wasn't the donor and then coolly proposed that Adeline visit Jasper in exchange for his help.
Vikram was so floored by Blake's response that he didn't dare say anything wrong, so he just went along with Blake's plan. That's why he was here now.
"So, Vikram," Adeline took a deep breath and looked seriously at him. "You want me to take Blake and Lauren to visit Jasper in the hospital with you?"
Vikram snapped back to reality and nodded seriously. "Yeah. Jasper's my uncle, and I'm hoping he'll invest in my new company. Now that he's sick and in a coma, the investment's up in the air, so I want to show some sincerity by visiting him with you guys."
"Jasper's in a coma?" Adeline interrupted, eyebrows furrowed. "How's that even possible?"
Adeline thought, 'Jasper was fine yesterday, even drove to Blue Bay in the middle of the night to give me a hard time. How could he be in a coma now?'
Seeing the worry in Adeline's eyes, Vikram sighed. "Yeah, I checked at the hospital. They said he had a bad stomach bleed from drinking six years ago, and it flared up again. So, he's still out cold."
As Vikram spoke, he watched Adeline closely. "You worried about him? Should we head out now?"
"I'm not worried about him," Adeline said, turning away from Vikram's gaze. "But if we're gonna visit, we should go soon. It's already past five, and we can't mess up Blake and Lauren's dinner just for him."
With that, Adeline took a deep breath and started packing her things faster.
Seeing her like this, Vikram couldn't help but sigh inwardly. 'Adeline's still got a soft spot for Jasper, huh?'
After Adeline finished packing, Vikram was already downstairs with Blake and Lauren in the car.
When they got to the hospital, they bumped into Luna coming out of Jasper's room.
Luna was still in her knee-length dress, but her face had lost that pitiful look, replaced with a mocking expression.
Luna sneered, "What, heard Jasper's down and out, so you brought Blake and Lauren here? Think he's dying and want them to inherit his stuff? Adeline, you're ruthless."
Luna squinted and sneered at Adeline. "But you two are divorced. From the moment he decided not to pay for Blake and Lauren's medical bills, they were cut off. No inheritance for them. Even if he dies, his money's mine!"
Luna's attitude made Adeline gasp.
'Jasper's just in a coma, and Luna's already thinking about the inheritance. She's the real piece of work here,' Adeline thought.
"Luna, what are you talking about?" Vikram stepped forward, shielding Adeline, Blake, and Lauren, glaring at Luna. "You're Jasper's girlfriend now. He just fell into a coma, and you're already talking about inheritance? That's low."
Luna snorted and gave Vikram an icy look. "Yeah, it's low. But I didn't bring it up first. You got time to call me out, but what about her? Jasper's barely out, and she drags her whole family here. That's disgusting!"
With that, Luna snorted again and walked off.
Adeline stood there, watching Luna leave, and sneered.
'The Luna I knew was always gentle and soft-spoken. Now she's showing her true colors. Does she think with Jasper in a coma, she doesn't need to pretend anymore? Jasper likes a woman like this? His taste is trash. But mine's worse. I liked him for so many years,' Adeline thought.
"Don't mind her; she's always been a bit nuts." After Luna walked away, Vikram pouted and softly comforted Adeline.
Adeline furrowed her brows. "You knew Luna before?"
Luna had only been in Radiance Springs for a few days, and Vikram had just arrived, but his tone didn't sound like they had just met.
"Yeah, we go way back; same school," Vikram waved his hand. "She used to chase me 'cause I had money, but I couldn't stand her fake, always-pretending-to-be-sick act, so I ignored her. Didn't expect her to end up with Jasper."
Adeline squinted. "Luna likes to pretend to be sick?"
