Chapter 44 Are You Involved With That Little Boy?

Adeline didn't have any laxatives on her.

She lowered her head. "I didn't bring them."

Jasper's voice turned cold. "Ryan, go back to Blue Bay and bring the remaining laxatives."

After saying that, he faintly curled his lips, and his eyes, which seemed bottomless, stared sharply at Adeline. "Where is it?"

Adeline silently bit her lip.

She didn't understand why this man suddenly had an impulse to make her take the laxative.

She furrowed her brows. "Mr. Foster, it's too much trouble for Ryan to go back. We are in the hospital now, so why not ask the doctor..."

"Yes!" Ryan clearly didn't want to go back either, so before Adeline finished speaking, he interrupted her and said, "Sir, should I go find the doctor now?"

"I said she should take her portion." Jasper's voice was as cold as ice. "Don't you understand?"

Ryan froze, and his face gradually turned gray.

He raised his eyes and looked at Adeline with resignation. "Where is the laxative?"

Adeline closed her eyes.

She didn't have any laxatives at all.

So she had no choice but to randomly give a location.

"By my bedside table, bottom drawer."

There, she kept the vitamins she had recently bought, originally intended for Lauren.

But given the circumstances, that was the only location she could report.

Jasper glanced casually at Ryan.

"I'll go back immediately!" After uttering those words, Ryan left the room like a gust of wind.

The ward door closed, leaving only Adeline and Jasper in the room.

The air became stuffy, making one feel oppressed.

Adeline felt her throat dry and uncomfortable.

"I'll go buy some water and be right back."

"I have some here." Jasper pointed to the cup of steaming water on the bedside table.

Adeline licked her dry lips. "I'll still go out and buy a bottle."

"Why?" The man raised his eyebrow. "Do you despise me?"

How could Adeline dare to say she despised him?

She smiled awkwardly. "I'm afraid that if I drink Mr. Foster's water, you might feel uncomfortable."

"I won't feel uncomfortable." His deep, bottomless gaze stared at her relentlessly. "Go ahead, drink."

After hesitating for some time, Adeline finally took a deep breath and walked to the edge of the bed. She picked up the cup of hot water on the bedside table and took a sip.

The warm water made her feel much more comfortable, and her mood improved as well.

"There's a laxative in the water."

Suddenly, a deep voice entered her ears.

Adeline froze. She instinctively took a step back and looked at Jasper with shocked eyes.

When did he do it?

Didn't he just wake up?

The sight of her pupils trembling pleased him quite a bit.

He changed to a more comfortable posture and leaned against the head of the bed. "I lied to you."

This man!

"Oh, so you have learned to joke too!"

He's always been serious and scary, hasn't he?

"Clearly, you wanted to climb into my bed and become my woman, yet you refused to be intimate with me, drugged me, and even refused to drink what I had." His cold eyes stared at her. "Adeline, what do you really want to do?"

The man's gaze was too piercing, and Adeline dared not look up and meet his eyes. She could only clear her throat and continue to keep her head lowered.

"According to your original purpose, you should indeed have drugged me, but what you used should not have been a laxative."

The man's deep voice was magnetic and pleasing to the ear.

Adeline felt her heart tighten slightly, and she bit her lip. "I..."

"Your purpose is not me," Jasper concluded, closing his eyes gently.

"Tell me, Adeline." His voice was soft. "What do you really want to do?"

Was she just imitating his wife?

Or was it simply that she liked Lauren?

Neither of these reasons were enough for her to stay by his side.

There must be another reason.

Adeline bit her lip.

This man, as always, was terrifyingly rational.

She didn't dare to look up, let alone speak.

She was afraid that if she opened her mouth, he would be able to guess her identity and understand her purpose.

The air in the ward was cold and heavy.

He looked at her, and she kept her head down.

The two of them remained in this standoff for a long time, until Ryan rushed in with a bottle labeled "Children's Vitamins".

"Sir, this is the only bottle of medicine in her bedside table!" Ryan said, glancing at Adeline with accusing eyes. "She's cunning! She used a children's vitamin bottle to hold laxatives! If Lauren saw this and mistook it for vitamins, the consequences would be..."

Ryan didn't finish his sentence, as he was frozen by the scene before him.

Jasper had already unscrewed the cap of the vitamin bottle and poured out two pills. He chewed and swallowed them directly.

Ryan's mouth dropped open in shock!

"Sir! You just recovered. Why would you..."

Ignoring Ryan's words, Jasper poured out two more pills and threw them into his mouth. "They taste like oranges."

These laxatives nowadays are quite advanced, with fruity flavors!

Suddenly, Ryan felt that something was off.

If this laxative really had an orange-flavor, how could Jasper not detect it when it was added to coffee or tea?

Ryan furrowed his brow and turned to look at Adeline. "This isn't a laxative. Tell me, where is your laxative?"

"She only has this medicine," Jasper replied calmly as he closed the vitamin bottle's cap.

Startled, Ryan handed the bottle to Adeline. "Take it and give it to Lauren."

Ryan, still puzzled, held onto the bottle of vitamins. "Sir, does this mean she hid the medicine?"

The man's deep, unreadable eyes gazed at Adeline's face. "She admitted everything directly. Why would she conceal the true location?"

Ryan fell silent.

"Adeline." The weakened man's face was pale but still commanding. "The only explanation is that you know who drugged me, and you are purposely protecting them."

"I don't." Adeline raised her head confidently and locked eyes with Jasper. "I only had one laxative pill on me. I gave it to you. There's nothing left."

She couldn't let Jasper know about her relationship with Bennett.

Originally, she only came back to find Jasper.

Now, with Lauren present, everything was on the verge of spiraling out of control. If Jasper found out about her and Bennett...

That would expose Bennett to Jasper.

If this continued, it would inevitably be revealed one day.

"Do you think such a lie can deceive me?" Jasper's eyes darkened as he looked at Adeline. There was a hint of contempt in his words. "Do you have a relationship with that young boy?"
