Chapter 206 No More Drinking Carelessly
Linda rolled her eyes and retorted, "Sebastian, are you telling me that Stella and Adeline are not the same person for the sake of this woman? I was good friends with her in high school, how could I not recognize her?"
Sebastian chuckled. "Then tell me, besides that face, what else proves that she is Adeline?"
His words not only furrowed Linda's brows but also made Adeline's blood run cold.
Sebastian's confident demeanor... It seemed like he already knew that Stella wasn't her.
But when she talked to Blake on the phone before, Blake mentioned that Sebastian only had suspicions.
But now, his attitude was completely certain.
Could it be...
Instinctively, Adeline tried to pull her arm out of Sebastian's grip. But Sebastian furrowed his brows and held on tighter.
He turned to look at Adeline and said, "I know everything."
Adeline felt like she had been struck by lightning.
He knew everything... How could he know...
Sebastian added, "Besides that face, Stella's husband, Jasper, can also prove that she is Adeline."
Linda snorted. "Are there husbands who can't recognize their own wives?"
The woman's words made Adeline's heart skip a beat. Indeed, there were husbands in this world who couldn’t recognize their own wives...
Sebastian smirked. "What if Jasper made a mistake?"
After saying that, he crossed his arms and looked at Linda. "Have you mentioned anything about high school to Stella since you met her again? How did she respond to you?"
Linda hesitated.
After reuniting with Stella this time... Stella said that she had been in a car accident six years ago, suffered a head injury, and therefore didn't remember many things from the past.
At that moment, Linda felt a pang of sadness. She had hoped that Stella would at least recall her, perhaps their time as high school desk mates. Yet, Stella showed no recognition whatsoever. She made no mention of their past connection; it was as if Linda didn't exist in her memory at all.
Thinking about this, Linda furrowed her brows. "What do you mean?"
Sebastian chuckled lightly. "Don't you think the lady behind me actually looks a lot like Adeline?"
Adeline helplessly closed her eyes. Sebastian seemed determined to reveal her identity.
She stood there, unsure whether she should stop him or comply.
Linda was her high school desk mate, her best friend. But after graduation, they went their separate ways and lost contact.
She never imagined that after many years, Linda would angrily confront her for Stella's actions.
Even though it was directed at her, Adeline knew that Linda was doing it for her own good.
Some emotions were hard to hide.
Adeline had hidden for too long, confiding only in Violet among her three children.
Facing Linda and Zavier, her friends from many years ago, she didn't know whether she should reveal herself.
Linda and Zavier exchanged glances, then both instinctively looked at Adeline.
After a moment, Linda hesitantly looked at Adeline's face. "Are you... Adeline?"
Those words pierced Adeline's heart, unleashing a flood of uncontrollable tears. She turned away, struggling to contain her emotions. "I'm not."
"You are." Linda bit her lip, her voice trembling slightly. "I only told Adeline about my feelings for Zavier back then."
The more she spoke, the more certain she became. "Zavier also told me that night that he only confided in Adeline about his feelings for her."
Taking a deep breath, Linda hugged Adeline tightly. "I should have realized it earlier!"
Adeline's tears finally couldn't be held back. She patted Linda's back and whispered, "Can you help me keep this secret?"
Tears in her eyes, Linda nodded. "Yes! You can trust me! Neither Zavier nor I will say anything!"
Looking at Adeline's flawless face, she asked, "How did you... change your face?"
Adeline smiled wryly. "Because I fell in love with the wrong man."
"Come have some coffee." Zavier was also excited, pouring coffee and inviting the three of them inside.
That night, Adeline and Linda talked a lot. It wasn't until 3 a.m. that Linda couldn't stay awake any longer and went upstairs to sleep.
Adeline and Sebastian were arranged by Zavier to stay in the guest rooms on the third floor.
The two rooms were next to each other, with adjoining balconies.
Adeline couldn't sleep, so she went to the balcony to look at the stars, where Sebastian was also standing.
Separated by a railing, they greeted each other, and Adeline finally asked the question that had puzzled her all night, "How did you know about me..."
"You told me yourself." Sebastian interrupted before she could finish. "You really can't handle alcohol. You got drunk and kept calling for Jasper."
Adeline froze. She knew she didn't have a good tolerance for alcohol.
So, over the years, even when she drank, she controlled herself to avoid getting too drunk. Except for the last time at Ms. Foster's birthday party... this was the second time.
Last time, she was lucky not to have said anything wrong while drunk.
But this time, luck didn't seem to be on her side.
"Don't drink carelessly in the future." Sebastian glanced at the stars indifferently. "If you really can't avoid it, you can call me to the drinking party. I don't get drunk easily."
Looking at his profile, Adeline chuckled softly and looked up at the stars. "Thank you."
If it weren't for Sebastian's presence tonight, she didn't know how things would have ended.
Either she would have been caught lying while drunk.
Or she would have been treated like Jasper's men treat her after getting drunk...
"Thank you for what." Sebastian smiled. "I should thank you for helping me find the girl in my painting."
Turning his head to look at her, he continued, "I always thought you were mysterious, but today I realized that you are not only mysterious but also strong and resilient. You are a good mother."
Adeline closed her eyes and smiled softly without saying a word.
The two stood quietly on the balcony, watching the stars until dawn, before returning to their rooms to sleep.
In the morning at ten o'clock, Adeline was awakened by a knock on the door.
It was Linda knocking. "Adeline!"
Outside the door, Linda's voice sounded urgent. "Wake up! Jasper is here!"
Upon hearing the name Jasper, Adeline was immediately jolted awake from her dream. She quickly got up, opened the door, and asked, "What's wrong?"
"Early this morning, Jasper seemed to have gone crazy, bribed the biggest gang here, and had them search the city for you! He even offered a high price, a million in cash to anyone who could find your whereabouts!" Linda exclaimed, her tone fraught with concern.
"I don't know who leaked the information, but word is out that you and Sebastian are at my house, and Jasper has come after you," Linda continued, her voice trembling slightly. "He's downstairs now, he caught Zavier and asked me to hand you over. He said if you don't come out... he'll kill him..." Linda's eyes welled up with tears as she spoke.
