So, she decided that tonight, she would return to the Phoebe family as she had agreed with Oliver.

"Look, Brandon saved your mother's life."
"Although your engagement ceremony with him over a month ago didn't go through, everyone in Oceancrest City knows about your relationship with Brandon. So, when Brandon asked me if we could announce your engagement tonight, I agreed."
As he spoke, Howard took Adeline's hand. "Let's settle it tonight, okay?"
"You and Brandon are destined by God. The Phoebe family and the Torres family arranged this marriage years ago. Daisy almost married Brandon, but by a twist of fate, you're the one engaged to him."
"Now that you're back with the Phoebe family, why not celebrate with a double blessing?"
Howard's hand was warm and rough.
Adeline frowned, looking down at Howard with an indifferent expression.
"I just got back, and you want to marry me off already?"
Howard was taken aback, then quickly shook his head. "No, no, it's just an engagement!"
"The wedding can be postponed as long as you want!"
Adeline smiled faintly. "If the wedding can be delayed for a long time, there's no need to rush the engagement."
With that, she took a deep breath and stood up to leave.
But as she opened the door, she was surprised to see Brandon sitting in a wheelchair outside.
Brandon's gentle eyes were fixed on Adeline's face.
"You still want to wait for Jasper, don't you?"

He glanced down at his own legs.
"You still mind that I'm disabled, don't you?"
Adeline's hands clenched into fists at her sides.
She bit her lip, her gaze icy as she looked at Brandon.
"I never minded that you're disabled. I just think I need to consider marrying you."
"What's there to consider?"
Behind her, Howard followed, his brows furrowed tightly. "Adeline, Brandon once saved your life and has always been good to you."
"If you don't mind that he's disabled, what's the problem?"
Adeline closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
After a moment, she opened her eyes, her gaze steady on Brandon's face.
"Brandon, you know why I'm hesitating."
"I always thought you were kind and honest with me, without any secrets."
"But…"
A hint of coldness flashed in her eyes.
"Do you want me to bring up how you used a fake to trick me into meeting you?"
Although Brandon had always been good to her, the incident at Lucky Restaurant made Adeline realize that Brandon wasn't as perfect as she had thought.
If he truly cared for her as he claimed, he wouldn't have risked her being manipulated by Daisy's people, using a fake ring to lure her out.
His feelings for her were conditional.
And Adeline had just left someone who didn't value her—Jasper.
She wouldn't allow herself to fall into the same trap again.
Adeline's words made Howard frown. "Brandon, what's this about?"
Brandon sighed and spoke calmly.
"Before… I missed Adeline too much and wanted to see her, so I made a mistake."
As he spoke, Brandon shook his head helplessly and turned his wheelchair around.
"Forget it. If Adeline doesn't want to, I won't force her."
"She can forgive Jasper for so many mistakes and wait for him so long, but she can't tolerate my one selfish act… Maybe I'm just not good enough for her…"
Brandon's words emphasized Adeline's tolerance for Jasper.
Howard narrowed his eyes slightly.
He knew his daughter was deeply in love with Jasper.
If he didn't take advantage of her willingness to return to the Phoebe family to finalize her engagement with Brandon… she might change her mind and go back to Jasper.
Thinking of this, Howard snorted coldly. "Is this small matter worth postponing the engagement?"
"I'll decide. Tonight, we'll announce your engagement!"
"The Phoebe family will have a double celebration!"
