Chapter 605 Stop Being So Hypocritical
Adeline glanced at Jasper's chiseled face, feeling a whirlwind of emotions.
She took a deep breath, turned away, and couldn't bring herself to look at him again.
"If the car accident six years ago really had nothing to do with you," she began, "and if you can help me restore Bennett's memory, I'll believe you and forgive you once you have solid proof."
Jasper stared at her intently. "Really?"
Adeline sniffed. "I have no reason to lie to you."
If he could really help Bennett regain his memory, not only would she believe and forgive him, but even...
"Okay," he said, looking at her profile. He closed his eyes and spoke in a deep voice, "Helping Bennett regain his memory—I'd do it even if you didn't ask."
He had already started digging for evidence from six years ago. Once he proved that Molly had framed him by hurting Adeline back then, he would make her life a living hell.
The rain kept falling.
Ryan had hoped that after Adeline and Jasper had a clear conversation, they would follow him back to Blue Bay. But Jasper didn't want to go back, and Adeline wanted to stay on the bridge for a while. So, Ryan returned to the car and waited for them quietly.
The rain gradually lessened.
Adeline stood beside Jasper, looking at the distant horizon. She couldn't help but ask, "Jasper, after I disappeared, what did you think about the most?"
Ryan had told her that after she left, Jasper often sat on the bridge, staring into the distance for an entire day. She was eager to know what was on his mind at that moment.
Turning to her now, Jasper's lips curved into a faint smile. "When Bennett regains his memory and you completely forgive me, I'll tell you."
With that, he wheeled himself around and got into the car. Adeline watched his back as a pensive frown creased her brow. Her lips pressed together in a silent pout, and she followed him silently.
When they got home, the three kids were all sitting in the living room. Blake was on a laptop, typing away, and Lauren was holding a drawing board, thinking about new designs. Bennett was quietly playing with a Rubik's cube on the sofa.
Hearing the door, Lauren quickly put down her things, opened her small hands, and ran towards Adeline and Jasper. "Daddy, Mommy! You're back!"
She threw herself into Jasper's arms. "Daddy, you worried us so much! If it weren't for Lauren's cleverness in finding Mommy to bring you back, you would have been soaked!"
Jasper smiled gently, leaned down, and hugged Lauren. "Little smartie."
He had thought it was Ryan who had brought Adeline to find him. Unexpectedly, it was Lauren.
"It was Blake's idea; Lauren just carried it out!" Lauren glanced at Blake with a smile, then sneakily rested her little head on Jasper's knee. "Blake has actually accepted Daddy in his heart! He's just too shy to say it!"
Jasper was amused by Lauren and instinctively looked in Blake's direction. Feeling Jasper's gaze, Blake quickly raised the laptop in his arms to cover his face. "Don't listen to Lauren's nonsense!"
"Lauren is not talking nonsense!" Lauren let go of Jasper, ran to Blake's side, and pulled the laptop out of his hands, revealing his flushed face. "Daddy, Mommy! Look, Blake is blushing! Blushing means he's been found out!"
Blake quickly shot back, "I am not!"
Lauren pounced on him, "Yes, you are! Admit it!"
The two kids were having a blast, and Adeline and Jasper couldn't help but laugh.
But Bennett, who had been sitting quietly in the corner, frowned slightly as he watched the scene. The next second, he put away the Rubik's cube, stood up, and quietly went upstairs.
Adeline noticed every move Bennett made. The smile on her face instantly became stiff. After a moment, she took a deep breath and glanced at Jasper, who was sitting in the wheelchair.
He was also watching the direction Bennett had left. Obviously, Jasper had noticed Bennett's actions too.
"I'll go check on him," she said, taking a deep breath and following Bennett upstairs.
Bennett quietly walked up the stairs, slipped into the children's room, climbed onto his bed, and lay there staring at the ceiling in a daze.
Adeline carefully pushed the door open. As soon as she entered, she saw him staring at the ceiling. Her heart ached slightly.
Silently returning to his room and staring at the ceiling in a daze was Bennett's habitual action when he felt wronged.
Whenever Adeline noticed his emotions and approached him, he would pretend everything was fine and give her a big smile, telling her he was contemplating life.
So was it Lauren and Blake's happy interaction just now that made the current memory-lost Bennett feel wronged? Adeline bit her lip and walked in.
Hearing the sound at the door, Bennett quickly sat up. Seeing that it was Adeline, he frowned, "What do you want?"
Adeline silently bit her lip. The same Bennett, feeling wronged in the same way. But the previous Bennett, when he saw her coming, would smile. But the current Bennett would only coldly ask her, "What do you want?"
The huge gap made Adeline's heart ache. She took a deep breath, suppressed her emotions, and slowly walked over, looking up at the little guy sitting on the bed.
"Why didn't you stay downstairs but come up here to stare at the ceiling?"
Bennett gave her a cold glance. "I'm staring at the ceiling, contemplating life, is that not allowed?"
Adeline paused, "It's not forbidden, but I think, since you're already living here, you should get along well with everyone."
"How should I get along well?" Bennett looked at Adeline, like a little adult, his words sharp and cold. "Your two children have the love of their parents, living happily. What about me? My mom is not here, my dad publicly denied that I am his child yesterday. I am here, dependent on others, with no one to rely on. You want me to get along well with your two happy children, do you think that's possible?"
The coldness in Bennett's eyes made Adeline's heart feel like it was being cut by a knife. She bit her lip, "Bennett."
"My name is Liam, not Bennett," Bennett reminded her again. "Adeline, maybe I should call you Aunt. Sebastian liked you before, and I didn't dislike you, so we had a few interactions. But now, we know each other's identity. You should be very clear, my mother and I came back to seek revenge on you. Please stop pretending to be kind to me, don't be so hypocritical, okay?"
