Chapter 811 Who Has Such a Big Grudge Against Mrs. Phoebe?

Adeline froze.

She bit her lip and cautiously glanced at Lorenzo. "Why did Mom send you to find Mrs. Foster?"

He squinted at Adeline, hesitating to speak.

After a moment, he composed himself and turned to look out the car window. "Mrs. Phoebe doesn't want me to say."

"If you want to know, you'll have to wait until Mrs. Phoebe wakes up."

Just as he finished speaking, the car stopped at the gate of the small courtyard.

Lorenzo smiled slightly at Adeline. "Ms. Phoebe, we're here."

Adeline, filled with questions, got out of the car with Linda.

After Lorenzo left, Adeline stood at the gate, watching the direction he had gone, her brow furrowed.

"Finally home!" Linda stretched and then wrapped an arm around Adeline's shoulders. "Come on, let's go rest!"

"No matter how many unhappy things there are, a good night's sleep will make everything better!"

Adeline was silent for a moment before gently removing Linda's arm. "You go rest first. I have something to do."

Linda frowned. "No matter what you have to do, you need to rest when it's time to rest. Otherwise, your body won't be able to handle it!"

Adeline smiled. "It's okay. I just want to check on my mom in the guest house."

Linda frowned, looking at her helplessly, but could only remind her to rest early.

Watching Linda enter the main house, Adeline finally breathed a sigh of relief and turned towards the guest house.

Inside, a servant was dozing in a chair.

Zara lay quietly on the bed.

Seeing Adeline enter, the servant quickly stood up. "Miss Wilson."

Adeline nodded. "If you're tired, go rest. I'll take care of things here."

The servant quickly left.

Adeline sat in the chair where the servant had been dozing, quietly watching Zara's face.

She used to think Zara was the most foolish and kind-hearted woman in the world.

She was willing to give so much for Howard, to protect and accept a man who didn't love her.

But today, Lorenzo's words revealed a different Zara to Adeline.

"Mom, today... I met Jasper."

Sighing, Adeline silently held Zara's hand, a bitter smile on her lips.

"I was too naive before."

"I always thought that the only one with a grudge against the Foster family was Howard."

"Today, I learned... the feud between the Phoebe family and the Foster family runs deep."

"Both you and Father... every member of the Phoebe family has blood on their hands from the Foster family."

Talking about this, Adeline couldn't help but close her eyes, tears slipping from the corners.

Her father had caused the death of Jasper's aunt, Esther.

Her mother had caused the death of Jasper's only remaining relative, Mrs. Lily Foster.

These things could never be erased.

She and Jasper could never be together in this lifetime.

No matter how deep their love was, what would it matter?

If they were together, how could Jasper face the ancestors of the Foster family? How could she admit she was a Phoebe?

Would Jasper look at her face and be reminded of his lost loved ones?

Adeline covered her eyes with her hands, tears slowly seeping through her fingers.

She had long known that she and Jasper could only drift further apart, eventually becoming strangers.

But she still held onto a sliver of hope.

In the dead of night, she would go mad thinking that Jasper might appear at her door the next second, telling her to forget the family feud and leave with him.

She wanted to leave everything behind and start anew with Jasper in a place where no one knew them.

No family feuds, no Phoebe family, no Foster family, no Torres family.

But she knew... it was impossible.

Impossible.

Everything was impossible.

She had to face the cold, despairing reality.

And today, Lorenzo's cruel truths shattered the last bit of hope in Adeline's heart.

Jasper would never let go of these grudges.

If he could, he wouldn't have harmed her mother for Mrs. Foster.

After thinking and crying for a long time, Adeline finally collapsed into Zara's arms, holding her tightly.

"Mother, I..."

Halfway through her words, Adeline suddenly felt something sticky under her hand.

Panicking, she quickly pulled her hand away.

Under the light, her hand was covered in a mixture of blood and pus, with bits of flesh.

Adeline froze.

What... what was this?

She quickly called for the servants, and, with their help, turned Zara over.

The sight of Zara's back was horrifying.

From her shoulders down, Zara's back seemed to be rotting away.

The spot Adeline had touched was the worst, with flesh visibly decaying.

Accompanying the rot was a foul stench.

"How could this happen..."

Adeline couldn't believe her eyes.

The servant responsible for Zara quickly bowed her head. "We... we don't know!"

"For the past six months, we've been taking care of Mrs. Phoebe diligently, washing and massaging her daily. You should have seen it."

"Judging by the extent of the rot, it didn't happen overnight."

"But when we washed Mrs. Phoebe this morning, there was no sign of this."

The servants knelt on the ground, trembling. "We don't know how this happened."

"What's going on?"

Hearing the commotion, Linda rushed in, wrapped in a coat.

Seeing Zara's back, she almost threw up.

Suppressing her reaction, Linda comforted Adeline while calling for a doctor and Oliver.

Half an hour later, the doctor and Oliver arrived.

After examining Zara's back, the doctor frowned.

"This isn't natural decay. Someone applied a special ointment to accelerate the rot."

He collected some of the decayed flesh with a cotton swab. "The rot is progressing quickly. This ointment is clearly custom-made."

"If it hadn't been discovered in time, in three days, Mrs. Phoebe's spine would be exposed."

"Once the back is completely rotted, it will spread to the front. When the internal organs are affected, not even God can save her."

The doctor looked at Adeline and Oliver.

"Mrs. Phoebe has been a kind and charitable person all her life, well-known in Oceancrest City."

"Who could have such a deep grudge against her?"
