Chapter 885 Why Should I
Sebastian's words hit Adeline like a bolt of lightning, leaving her frozen in place.
Worried that Adeline might not believe him, Sebastian quickly played the recording of the recent phone call for her.
"Think of something fast!"
As he pressed play, Linda's weak voice came through the speaker.
"Sebastian, help me."
"I feel like I'm dying."
"I really think I'm dying. The guards said they can't reach David. Without David's permission, they won't let me out."
The recording ended abruptly with a man's voice.
"Ms. Phoebe, give me the phone!"
Adeline's eyes widened, struggling to imagine the situation Linda was in when she made that call.
She bit her lip and looked anxiously at Oliver.
"Oliver, I need to get back to Oceancrest City!"
Unlike Adeline and Sebastian's panic, Oliver remained calm.
He squinted.
"From Everglade City to Oceancrest City, it's a four-hour drive."
"If your friend is really bleeding out, by the time you get there, she'll already be dead."
"She didn't say where she's being held. How are we supposed to find her?"
"And even if we do find her, can you rescue her?"
"Do you know who David is? David is the leader of the biggest gang in Oceancrest City. All the gangs there answer to him."
"If someone like him wants to imprison a woman, do you think you two, or even the declining Phoebe family, can save her?"
"Even if we manage to rescue her, she'll still be dead by the time we do."
Oliver's words left Adeline and Sebastian stunned.
Though they didn't want to believe it, Oliver was right!
Adeline was so anxious that tears welled up in her eyes.
Was she really going to watch Linda die?
Sebastian frowned, "Do you have any ideas?"
Oliver squinted and glanced at Jasper, who was smoking at the end of the hallway.
"We need to ask him."
Adeline looked up, following Oliver's gaze.
Jasper stood elegantly at the end of the hallway, dressed in black, tall and imposing.
She bit her lip and, without hesitation, ran over and grabbed Jasper's arm.
"Please, help Linda."
Everyone knew about Jasper's connection to David. If Jasper spoke up, David's men would listen and take Linda to the hospital.
This was the quickest and most effective solution.
Much more reliable than Oliver's plan of returning to Oceancrest City, finding where David was holding Linda, and rescuing her.
Jasper glanced at Adeline, then took a deep drag on his cigarette and blew a smoke ring at her.
"Why should I?"
His words made Adeline's blood run cold.
She stared at Jasper's face, almost thinking she had misheard.
Jasper was asking her why.
Why should he help Linda?
Adeline bit her lip, unsure how to respond.
Jasper used to be her lover, the father of her child.
She didn't need a reason to ask for his help.
But now, their relationship was no longer the same.
He was now the sworn enemy of the Phoebe family, and she was a member of the Phoebe family.
He was the CEO of the Foster Group, and she was the CEO of the Phoebe Group.
They were now on opposing sides, enemies.
Seeing each other without a fight to the death was already an exception.
And now she was asking Jasper for help.
Why indeed?
Why should he help her, his enemy?
Jasper was a businessman; he wouldn't do anything without a benefit.
But Linda's situation was urgent.
Adeline bit her lip and looked Jasper in the eye.
"Because I'm your woman, okay?"
Her words brought a sudden silence to the hallway.
Sebastian and Oliver, who had hurried over, stopped in their tracks.
Jasper squinted, sneering as he took another drag on his cigarette and blew the smoke in Adeline's face.
"So, Adeline, you're negotiating with me?"
"Yes."
Adeline lifted her head, her gaze steady on Jasper.
Her heart was bleeding, but her face remained calm.
"I'm better than any woman out there."
"And all I need is for Mr. Foster to make a call to save someone. That's not difficult for Mr. Foster, is it?"
She was willing to do anything for Linda.
After all, Jasper had slept with her last night; he couldn't just walk away.
"Adeline."
Jasper sneered, tossing his cigarette to the ground and crushing it underfoot.
He lifted her chin, his gaze and voice icy.
"You could have offered something else, but what are you doing now?"
His grip was so strong it felt like he might crush her jaw.
Adeline yanked his hand away.
"I'm not arguing about the past."
"I just want to use my sacrifice to save Linda this time!"
"Jasper, if you still have any integrity, then..."
Before Adeline could finish, Jasper's phone rang.
She quickly noticed the name on the screen. Ryan.
Jasper gave her a cold look and pressed the speaker button.
Ryan's anxious voice came through.
"Sir, we've picked up Ms. Phoebe. Her condition is indeed critical. We're in the ambulance now, and the doctor says her blood type is rare. Oceancrest City's blood supply is insufficient."
"You're in Everglade City. Can you ask Dr. Ross to check Everglade City's blood bank for any available supply?"
