Chapter 451 Ms. Jones, Failed
Adeline squinted, her eyes flicking to the coffee in Luna's hand, and she smirked. "Ms. Jones, you should keep that coffee. Who knows what kind of 'vitamins' you’ve added this time?"
She was throwing shade, reminding everyone how Luna once pretended to spike her water with vitamins, stirring up drama on purpose.
Luna's face went pale, but she still bit her lip, looking all hurt as she held out the coffee to Adeline. "This is just plain coffee. I know you don't like me, Ms. Wilson, but I'm being real here."
Luna pleaded, "Please, just try it, okay?"
Adeline, looking annoyed, pushed her hand away slightly. "I don't drink it."
Before Adeline could finish, Luna let out a sharp scream that could shatter glass.
Adeline was momentarily stunned by the noise. She turned her head to see what was up.
The hot coffee had spilled all over Luna, turning her white shirt a nasty brown.
But Adeline hadn't even pushed that hard. Was Luna pulling another one of her stunts?
Luna had a history of causing drama, like the time she falsely accused Anne and ended up drenched in coffee. Now she was at it again, spilling coffee on herself?
Luna's scream was so loud that it drew a crowd. People from the design department and nearby offices rushed into Adeline's space.
"What happened?"
"Adeline!"
In no time, the small office was packed, with folks even squeezing into the area where the competition design drafts were kept.
Adeline's heart sank.
She trusted her team not to leak the designs, but she couldn't vouch for everyone else. Especially the newbies in the design department; they might use the chaos to swipe the drafts and jump ship!
Even people from other departments had barged in!
Thinking fast, Adeline barked, "Timothy, Robert, get everyone out."
Timothy and Robert got the hint immediately.
With so many people crammed in, if any confidential docs went missing, good luck finding the thief!
Soon, Robert and Timothy had everyone out.
But people were still nosy, hanging around the door, glancing between Adeline and Luna. "What happened to Ms. Jones? Did Adeline and Ms. Jones have a fight?"
Adeline was about to speak, but Luna, looking pale, bit her lip and weakly said, "It's nothing."
Luna bit her lip, acting like she was toughing out the burn. "I spilled the coffee by accident. It has nothing to do with Adeline."
She forced a smile at everyone. "No big deal. Alright, break it up, folks. Everyone, disperse. Ms. Wilson doesn't like being disturbed; it was my fault."
Luna's act made Adeline frown even more. What was her game? Spill coffee on herself and then play the martyr?
"Alright, everyone, break it up." Luna bit her lip, looking all innocent and pitiful. "I'm really fine. Don't overthink it. Let's not bother Ms. Wilson."
After that, Luna limped out, looking all pitiful.
Someone at the door helped her, offering to take her to the hospital. Others were shouting that Luna was hurt and that they should call Jasper. Soon, everyone was escorting Luna out. The rest, seeing the drama was over, reluctantly dispersed.
"She's quite the actress," Timothy sneered, watching Luna being helped away. "Last time she used hot coffee to target Anne, and now she's pulling the same stunt."
Adeline furrowed her brows, feeling something was off with Luna today.
Suddenly, she thought of her design drafts.
Adeline quickly turned to check her design documents.
Sure enough, the spot where the design documents were stored was now empty.
"The design drafts have been stolen!" Adeline exclaimed.
Timothy noticed the missing documents too. "Luna really had bad intentions! She lured people in so someone could swipe the documents in the chaos!"
While Timothy was fuming, Robert was already getting up to check the surveillance footage.
"Don't bother," Adeline said.
Compared to their anxiety, Adeline was much calmer. She adjusted herself comfortably in her chair. "The design drafts are in a safer place. Don't worry."
Before leaving the company, Amelia had warned her that Luna would try to sabotage her in this competition. How could Adeline leave such important documents in the office?
Hearing Adeline's response, Timothy sighed in relief, but Robert furrowed his brows. "We still need to find out who stole our documents. I'll go check the surveillance."
Adeline smiled. "No need for that."
As she spoke, a piercing alarm sounded outside the office.
Timothy furrowed his brows and rushed out.
The sound was coming from a male employee's drawer. Timothy quickly approached and managed to open the drawer. Sure enough, inside was a document identical to Adeline's design file. The alarm was coming from the document.
Timothy couldn't help but laugh. "Adeline is still the smart one."
Adeline shrugged, using a tissue to wipe the coffee splashed on her clothes from Luna's spill. It wasn't her who was smart, but Bennett.
When Adeline was working abroad, a colleague in the same office had their design drafts stolen. After hearing about it, Bennett came up with the idea of creating fake documents with alarms. But after the alarm was made, her documents were never stolen. Unexpectedly, it worked after returning to the country.
Thinking of Bennett, Adeline's mood involuntarily sank. Perhaps this was Bennett's last bit of protection for her?
"Ms. Jones, I failed." In the hospital lounge, Luna received a call. "The document was fake. Not only was it fake, but it also had an alarm. I'm at the police station now."
Hearing the man's voice on the other end, a trace of venom flashed in Luna's eyes.
Luna bit her lip. "If you want the money, keep your mouth shut! Don't contact me again!"
With that, she hung up the phone and deleted the call record.
Putting away her phone, Luna closed her eyes heavily. Adeline was more vigilant than she had imagined.
After a moment, she opened her eyes, her gaze resting on the kettle heating water for her coffee nearby.
Gritting her teeth, Luna walked over, picked up the kettle, and poured the boiling water over the spot where the coffee had burned her.
