Chapter 148 What's the Use of Reshaping Yourself in My Image?
As Jasper turned, he noticed a small bloodstain on the bedsheets, right where Stella had lain.
The man left a relieved sigh, scribbled a note, and turned to walk away.
Stella had only just entered the restroom when she realized that her period had started.
Frustration surged within her, and she nearly punched the wall!
After all this time by Jasper's side, today she had been her best shot at finally winning him over!
If she could consummate their relationship, she could proudly declare herself as Adeline, as Mrs. Foster.
But damn it, of all the times for a mishap!
After angrily dealing with the situation, Stella found a pre-prepared contraceptive pill and swallowed it dry.
If it meant getting to sleep with Jasper, what did these little things matter?
Once she had taken care of everything, Stella emerged from the bathroom with a smile.
The bedroom was empty; Jasper's presence was gone.
On the nightstand, there was a sanitary pad.
The household staff was bustling about, changing her sheets.
Seeing her, the staff respectfully approached and handed her a note., "From the gentleman," they said.
Stella frowned and unfolded the note.
In strong, masculine handwriting, it read, "I've gone to sleep in the guest room. Take care of yourself these next few days. We have plenty more to come."
Clenching the note in her fist, Stella's frustration flared.
More days to come, always these words to soothe her!
She'd been by Jasper's side for so long, and yet she couldn't even claim a kiss from him!
Due to Adeline and, those little ones, she was besieged by troubles within and without.
She had finally caught a chance to turn the tables with Jasper, only for him to discover her menstrual mishap.
When the staff had left, she closed the door, lay on the immense bed, and pulled out her phone. "Monroe, ."
"I need your help."
...
"I've found a place; I'm moving tonight."
Over breakfast, Adeline bluntly brought up the topic of moving out with Violet.
Violet's spoonchopsticks clattered to the table in surprise.
She quickly picked itthem up, "So soon?"
"Yes, the rent is quite expensive. I want to move in quickly to make it worthwhile."
Violet pursed her lips, "I didn't expect you to find a place so fast..."
"Sebastian helped out."
Adeline shrugged nonchalantly, "He's got connections."
Violet pursed her lips again, "I find Sebastian odd. He's so warm to you despite barely knowing you; there must be a catch."
Adeline let out a soft chuckle, "Don't think so ill of people."
"I didn't say he was a bad person."
Violet let out a sigh, "By the way, Adeline, do you know Evelyn Quinn from the wealthy Quinn family in Las Vegas?"
Adeline's grip on her fork paused ever so slightly, "I know of her."
Before Jasper was even born, he had been betrothed to her.
Everyone thought it was just their parents meddling, but after graduating, Evelyn Quinn was dead set on marrying Jasper.
Jasper wasn't interested in following through with the family's plans and was walking around in a constant state of gloom.
At that time, Adeline was at the peak of her infatuation with Jasper and naively suggested that he marry her instead.
Thinking it was just wishful thinking on her part, she was shocked when Jasper agreed to go with her the very next day to get the marriage certificate.
She thought this was the start of a beautiful love story and happily followed him.
She could still vividly remember the vows Jasper made when they got married:
"I can't promise that I will fall in love with you, but I assure you I will never betray you, and I will give you peace of mind."
Now, those words felt hollow and sickening to her.
Never betray.
Provide peace of mind.
All lies men use to deceive women!
"What about Evelyn Quinn?"
"Nothing much."
Violet curled her lip, "Our hospital is the best plastic surgery clinic in Denver, and recently, there's been a lot of gossip about whether Evelyn Quinn has been here. "
"I heard Evelyn Quinn is obsessed with plastic surgery."
"After being ditched by her betrothed fiancé, she started getting addicted to going under the knife…"
Adeline calmly took another bite of her food, "That fiancé who ditched her was Jasper."
Violet's mouth fell open in shock.
"So, the person who stole her man…"
"Was me."
After saying this, Adeline looked at Violet with a slight smile, "Surprised?"
Violet's jaw almost dropped, "Quite surprised."
Adeline finished her breakfast, put down her platedishware, and stood up to grab her coat, slipping it on as she spoke indifferently, "This Evelyn and I were both pitifully in love with Jasper, that scumbag, and sacrificed too much for him. "
"I feel sorry for her."
Her words left Violet speechless for a long moment.
Finally collecting herself, Violet ventured, "Adeline, do you think this Miss Quinn is using you as a model for her surgeries?"
Adeline shook her head and laughed, "Anyone who's looked into the truth about my marriage with Jasper wouldn't be under any illusion that he has any affection for me."
"He doesn't even like me. What's the use of Ms. Evelyn getting plastic surgery to look like me?"
After she spoke, she grabbed her backpack and turned to leave.
Violet pursed her lips, acknowledging the logic in her words, but then a second thought made her uneasy.
Wasn't it common knowledge in Denver that Jasper was deeply committed to his ex-wife?
...
When Adeline arrived at the office, it was just past seven in the morning.
The place was deserted.
She switched on the lights, tidied up the blueprints she hadn't finished the night before, and took them to her office. She shut the door and got back to work.
An hour later, the office was buzzing with activity.
"Did you guys catch the news? I can't believe Adeline could do something like that..."
"A work of art worth millions! To ruin it like that? , Wwomen's jealousy is frightening."
"I heard that Mr. Foster was only with Adeline for the show to lure Mrs. Foster back. Now that she's back, Adeline's been dumped; she's obviously bitter."
"But no matter how upset, she shouldn't have done that. We're in the art business; can't she learn some respect?"
Outside, the voices of the employees seeped through the door into Adeline's ears like threads of conversation.
Frowning, she swiftly opened her office door.
The staff, upon seeing Adeline, fell silent abruptly.
"And you know..."
Lucia, with her back to Adeline, continued gloating, unaware, "After the incident, the CEO gave Adeline an impossible task yesterday just to make her life difficult."
"After all, he's out a ten-million-dollar settlement; he's going to want to squeeze her for every penny!"
"You seem to know Jasper better than he knows himself."
As Lucia finished, Adeline responded dryly with a slight smirk.
Lucia jumped in fright.
She quickly turned around, a forced smile on her face, "Director Adeline, I didn't see you there."
"When did you come in? We didn't notice."
Adeline glanced at her coolly, "Would you be speaking so freely about me if you had seen me?"
Finishing her point, she looked at Lucia's pale face, "This painting you mentioned, what's that about?"
Lucia nibbled her lip and hastily handed over her phone, "See for yourself."
Adeline, with a furrowed brow, glanced at the screen.
The headline read:
Spurred by Jealousy: Woman Destroys Million-Dollar Masterpiece.
Below the headline was a video clip from a smartphone.
In the clip, Stella was crying and accusing her of destroying a painting by Sebastian.
The shot then shifted to footage from a security camera.
Jasper's indifference sliced through the silence with a mere, "I didn't see anything."
Adeline's response to the news piece was a laugh.
It went without saying; she knew exactly who was behind the intrigue.
