Chapter 82 Provocation Doesn't Work on Me

"I'm not interested," Jasper said, furrowing his brows as he pulled her arm away. "Miss Wilson, if it were before last night, I might seriously have considered your proposal."

"After last night..." He leaned in close to her ear, his cold voice accompanied by the warmth of his breath. "I already know that you belong to Brandon. Do you think I would keep my enemy close and risk being bitten by a snake?"

Having finished speaking, he lifted his head, ready to leave.

However, Adeline reached out and grabbed his collar, her cool eyes carrying a hint of disdain. "Mr. Foster, are you lacking confidence?"

He squinted at her, but said nothing.

She smirked. "I'm just a woman. A man such as yourself would surely have thoroughly investigated me by now. Are you afraid I'll steal your company's secrets? Isn't that a lack of confidence, Mr. Foster?"

She intentionally raised the tone of her voice at the end, trying to provoke his restless heart.

Jasper narrowed his eyes slightly and smiled. "Provocation doesn't work on me."

He pried her fingers off his collar, buttoned up his shirt neatly, and said, "Miss Wilson, now that you're sober, it's time for you to pack up and leave."

"Didn't we agree earlier that you wouldn't come to Blue Bay anymore after the birthday banquet?"

After saying that, he turned around and left gracefully.

Adeline stood there, lightly biting her lip as she watched his departing figure.

After the man left, it took a while before Adeline regained her spirits and went to the bathroom.

After freshening up, she went downstairs.

In the kitchen downstairs, a little girl in a pink and white nightgown was sitting at the table, drinking milk.

Seeing her come down, the little girl tentatively pointed at the untouched breakfast in front of her. "You can have breakfast now."

The woman paused and then put away her hint of helplessness. She smiled and sat down in front of her. "Just woke up?"

"I woke up a long time ago..." Lauren lowered her head and carefully scooped some porridge into her mouth. "I just... heard you and Daddy arguing. He was trying to chase you away..."

Adeline's body stiffened.

After a moment, she smiled and said, "We weren't arguing, just some discussion between adults."

Lauren lowered her head. "I got Daddy drunk last night, hoping he would speak the truth while under the influence... but things seem to have gotten worse..."

Seeing her daughter like this, Adeline couldn't help but smile. "When people are drunk, not everything they say is true. Some people know how to put on a disguise."

"Mm..." Lauren lowered her head, her palm-sized face filled with self-blame. "I know I was wrong. If I hadn't gotten him drunk last night, he wouldn't be in such a hurry to chase you away, right?"

Adeline sighed, "Even if he didn't get drunk last night, I would still be leaving today."

She stood up and walked over to Lauren, holding her small hand, "Don't worry. Even if I move out, we will still see each other often."

Lauren nodded, her eyes slightly reddened, "Hmm..."

Seeing her daughter's despondent look, Adeline's heart ached. She quickly changed the topic, "You just said that you got Jasper drunk last night?"

"Yeah!"

The little girl nodded earnestly, "I woke up to get some water and heard Ryan say he was going to cook soup, so I asked him. He said you were drunk, and then I suddenly remembered that Uncle Brandon used to speak the truth when he got drunk, so I..."

Adeline furrowed her brow slightly, a cold smile curling her lips, "Alright, I understand."

Lauren was just a child, but Jasper was an adult.

If he didn't want to get drunk, how could Lauren have gotten him drunk?

With a drunken woman in his room, he certainly didn't hesitate to get himself drunk either...

This indicated that Jasper at least still had some thoughts about her.

Either he was very confident in himself.

Or he was testing his own tolerance for her.

Regardless, she could conclude that the man's feelings towards her were not as indifferent as he appeared.

At the very least, he had desire and fascination for her body.

That was enough!

This time, when she returned to her home country, all she wanted to have his child.

As for which woman this scumbag truly liked or had in his heart, she could care less!

Thinking of these things, Adeline kissed Lauren's face, "I don't blame you, my baby. You've given me a great revelation, truly opened my eyes."

After speaking, the woman took a deep breath and turned to leave.

"Where are you going?"

Watching her figure, Lauren frowned and quickly chased after her down the corridor with her short legs.

"I'm going home now." Adeline paused her steps, turned back, and smiled at her, "We will see each other again very soon!"

Will they really?

Lauren sighed, recalling her father's words from last night.

In fact, there were still some things she didn't tell Mommy.

For example, Daddy said...he didn't actually want to defend that bad aunt, but wanted Mommy to come back to him.

The little girl sighed silently.

She knew that only she believed this and if she told Mommy, Mommy would definitely say it was Daddy's excuse.

But she felt that it really wasn't Daddy's excuse. Yesterday, when Daddy said those words...the sincerity in his eyes was just like Blake's and Bennett's!

She believed Daddy's words, and she believed that Mommy would come to realize the truth in due time!

But now was not the time.

After leaving Blue Bay, Adeline hailed a taxi and went straight to Violet's house.

At home.

The house that Violet had found for her and Bennett had been burned down by Molly, so now she could only temporarily stay at Violet's house.

"Adeline, don't be sad." Violet washed a plate of fruit and placed it in front of Adeline, then sat down next to her, patting her shoulder comfortingly. "After the birthday banquet, Bennett and Blake told me about your family's situation. Don't lose hope, there will always be a solution to things!"

Adeline nodded and picked up a cherry tomato with a wry smile. "I'm sorry, Violet. I never told you about my past."

"There's nothing to apologize for." Violet smiled. "If it were me with such a sad past, I wouldn't want to bring it up either. It's heart-wrenching!"

"And..." She playfully nudged Adeline's shoulder. "If you had told me before that you were Jasper's ex-wife, I would have thought you were bragging!"

"You know, Jasper and us, we are simply not from the same world. From the moment I heard his name; he had always been someone I had to look up to..."

Adeline pursed her lips, listening to Violet's words, her heart filled with mixed emotions.

Violet was right.

Jasper and her, and all of them, were never meant to be in the same world.

It was she who didn't know her place and insisted on marrying him, breaking the boundaries between them, becoming his sidekick.

The ending... was quite tragic.

"Adeline, what are your plans for the future?" Violet's words brought her back to reality.

The future?

Adeline's lips curled up slightly, adjusting her body into a more comfortable position as she lay on the couch. "I plan to sleep, sleep for three full days and then decide!"

"Sounds like you weren't allowed to sleep in Blue Bay."

"Well, he certainly didn't let me sleep much last night." The woman yawned and leaned against the couch. "By the way, Violet, do you have a pregnancy test here?"
