Chapter 526 Will Anyone Still Believe?

Luna's question was something Adeline was dying to know too.

Adeline leaned in, straining to catch any sound from outside. She even held her breath, scared that even a tiny exhale might drown out Jasper's response.

After what felt like forever, Jasper's cool, low voice finally drifted in. "If she's really sick, I'll treat her. If it's serious, I'll send her to the hospital."

Adeline's heart sank like a stone. The hospital Jasper mentioned wasn't just any hospital—it was the psych ward that had once held Luna and Mia, more like a prison than a place of healing.

She bit her lip, her hands bound tight with ropes, nails digging into her palms until they bled. But she didn't feel a thing as she was beyond desperate.

Adeline knew how locked down that psych ward was. Even someone as desperate as Thomas couldn't break out! If she got locked up there, would she ever taste freedom again? Her future seemed bleak.

When she heard Scott's name, Adeline already knew what her mental evaluation would say. But until she woke up this morning, she had no clue! Now, she had no way to call for help.

Just then, the phone on her bedside table rang.

Adeline's eyes snapped open, and she looked pleadingly at the black-clad bodyguard by her bed. "Can you help me answer the phone?"

The bodyguard hesitated but didn't move.

Adeline took a deep breath, her gaze icy. "Mr. Foster only suspects I have a mental illness; nothing's confirmed. And even if I do, I'm not on death row! Can't I at least answer the phone?"

The guard wavered but finally gave in. He picked up the phone and hit the speaker button.

A clear child's voice came through. "Is that Adeline?"

Adeline was stunned. It was Bennett!

She quickly composed herself. "Yes, it is."

"Hello." Bennett's voice was clear and cold. "I'm Liam, the one who looks just like your son. I got your number to help Sebastian, my bodyguard and driver. But Sebastian's too timid and clueless about women. Plus, your situation is complicated, and he's scared. So I'm calling. Sebastian wants to meet you by the beach tonight. Are you free?"

Adeline bit her lip hard, fighting back tears. In her darkest moment, Bennett called. Was this fate telling her not to give up?

She took a deep breath, keeping it brief. "I might not be free tonight. I'm about to undergo a mental illness evaluation. If it says I'm severely ill, I'll be in a psych ward by tonight. So, no, I can't make it."

Her words made Bennett frown on the other end. "Is it that serious?"

Bennett didn't actually know if Adeline was really mentally ill. Molly had told him Adeline was suffering from a mental illness and abusing her son daily. Her son, being patient and obedient, refused to speak up, which was why Molly sought his help.

Back then, Bennett had no clue who Adeline was, so he just went along with it.

But a few nights ago, seeing Adeline trudging through the pouring rain, Bennett couldn't help but let her into his car.

They chatted a bit, and Bennett didn't think Adeline seemed like the type to suddenly snap and become violent or depressive.

Now, she was saying she was about to be locked up in a psych ward.

"If so, then forget it," Bennett said after a long pause, finally sighing. "I hope you get better soon."

Adeline opened her mouth, but the words got stuck. The phone went dead, leaving only a busy tone.

She was stunned for a moment, then closed her mouth.

She had expected too much. To Bennett, Adeline was just a stranger he'd met twice. How could he understand her hints? Even if he did, why would he try to save her?

Adeline smiled bitterly, shaking her head to clear the disappointment. Bennett was just a stranger now; she shouldn't expect too much.

Just then, footsteps echoed outside the door.

Along with the footsteps came Scott's old, hypocritical voice. "Don't worry, Mr. Foster, Luna. I'll do my best to diagnose this lady's illness and prescribe the right treatment."

The door to Adeline's room swung open.

Bound hand and foot, Adeline lay on the bed in a sorry state, watching as Jasper, Luna, and Scott walked in.

Seeing Jasper, the bodyguards in the room immediately stepped aside, making way for the trio.

Jasper pointed to Adeline on the bed. "It's her."

Scott's eyes widened in shock when he saw Adeline. It was her!

He instinctively turned to look at Luna.

Luna responded with a sweet smile. "This lady, Adeline, has previously shown violent behavior towards her own son."

Luna looked at Scott gently, her voice equally soft. "Dr. Smith, please make sure to diagnose her properly."

She even winked at Scott.

Scott adjusted his glasses. "Don't worry, Luna, Mr. Foster!"

He turned to look at Adeline's desperate eyes, smirking. "Miss Wilson, you can rest assured too. I've never made a diagnostic error in my many years in the medical field. I'll definitely diagnose you properly."

He looked at Adeline coldly but spoke politely. "You all can leave now; I need to diagnose Miss Wilson alone."

Jasper nodded and took Luna away, recalling all the bodyguards in the room as they left.

The bedroom door closed.

Scott elegantly sat on the chair in the middle of the room. His old, cloudy eyes scanned Adeline up and down, and he laughed. "I really didn't expect the person Mr. Foster asked me to evaluate for mental illness would be you."

Scott said as he wrote in the file in his hand. "Yesterday, you approached my wife and threatened me, saying you'd tell her everything I did. But today, you're the one being punished."

Scott laughed triumphantly. "What if I write 'severe schizophrenia' on your evaluation report today? Do you think anyone will believe anything you say in the future?"
