Chapter 381 You Have to Help Me
The office instantly quieted down.
Jasper squinted his eyes, looking at her faintly. "Adeline, you need something from me right now."
He lightly tapped his long fingers on the desk. "You need something from me, yet you still belittle me. Is this your way of dealing with people?"
She chuckled softly. "I'm just telling the truth."
She raised an eyebrow and glanced at the documents on the desk. "Besides, Mr. Foster and I are equal partners. If I really needed something from you, I would just ask you to pay Blake's medical bills, wouldn't I?"
Jasper smiled as he picked up the documents on the desk and began to read them seriously. "That's true."
He continued, "Although Blake and Lauren are my children, I have provided a villa and covered all the medical expenses during this time."
He lifted his inscrutable eyes and glanced at her. "This should suffice, shouldn't it?"
Adeline squinted slightly and smiled. "Of course, it's enough."
Indeed, his affection for Blake and Lauren only went this far.
She used to think he genuinely liked Bennett and Lauren and was truly worried about Blake. He was still as hypocritical and cold as ever, with his acting as convincing as always.
After a long while, he finished reviewing the contracts and documents she had worked on throughout the night.
Finally, he placed the folder on the desk and glanced at her. "Generating ten million for the company in three months—doesn't that seem a tad hasty for you?”
He gave her a cold glance. "How about extending it to four months?"
"No need." She refused directly. "Three months is enough."
She didn't want to stay around Jasper for even one more day.
"Alright then." He smiled and turned to the last page of the document, signing the agreement. "I'll be waiting for your good news."
She said, "Thank you, Mr. Foster."
She walked over, picked up the pen from Jasper's pen holder, and was about to sign her name when she paused upon seeing the pen.
She remembered this pen. It was the engagement gift she gave him when they got engaged.
At that time, she was completely devoted to him and wanted to give him the best.
So, she used the prize money from two design competitions to buy it for him.
Although it was precious to her, it was ordinary to him.
Back then, he had opened the gift box in front of her and placed the pen in the pen holder.
Since then, every time Adeline came to his office, she would subconsciously check if it was still there.
Every time she saw it, she felt happy, thinking he still cared about her.
Later on, she found out that the pen had always been there, but he never used it.
When she questioned him, he said he never used things he didn't like. At that time, She almost cried.
On several occasions, she contemplated discreetly discarding the pen. Despite that, she'd persuade herself each time that although he didn't use it, keeping the pen there was a special recognition of her.
Though many years had passed, to Adeline, those events felt as familiar as if they had just happened yesterday.
All those foolish things she did for him back then now seemed laughable.
She never expected he'd keep this pen his desk for so many years.
She smiled sarcastically. Then, she took a deep breath and silently signed her name on the paper.
She thought sadly that this might be the first time this pen had ever been used.
Just like her once-devoted love for Jasper, it only moved herself.
After finishing the document, she capped the pen and gave Jasper a cold glance. "Mr. Foster, I remember this pen was bought with my competition prize money. Since Mr. Foster doesn't need it, I'll take it back."
She was about to leave when Jasper grabbed her wrist.
He squinted at her. "Can you take back something you gave to someone else after so many years?" He then took the pen from her and held it firmly.
She was a bit surprised. It wasn't until Jasper took the pen that she came to her senses.
She turned her eyes, filled with sarcasm. "Mr. Foster, why keep something you don't need?"
"This pen is useless to you, but it can serve as a reminder for me. Why make things difficult?"
"Why take away something someone loves, Miss Wilson?" Jasper looked at her with a smile and deftly placed the pen back in the pen holder.
He said, "This pen has been with me for many years. If someone took it away, I would feel uncomfortable."
She frowned and glanced at him.
He was also looking at her. His gaze seemed to be ready to fight her to the end over this pen.
She suddenly found it meaningless. "It's just an old pen. If Mr. Foster won't hand it over, then keep it."
With that, she left with the documents.
Jasper sat there, watching her figure disappear from sight with a bitter smile.
He sat back down in the chair, his eyes quietly fixed on the pen. The image of Adeline from years ago, eagerly gifting him the pen, appeared before his eyes.
Back then, she was completely devoted to him. Her gaze towards him overflowed with tenderness and deep affection.
He knew her feelings for him, and he was so happy to receive the pen that he couldn't bear to use it.
But when she questioned him, he could only lie and say he didn't like using it.
At that time, Jasper always felt that his infatuation with her was rather embarrassing.
After all, he initially decided to marry her just to resist his family's arrangement It was supposed to be a casual marriage, but he ended up deeply in love with Adeline, which he found embarrassing.
So, he always lied and treated her coldly. It wasn't until he lost her that he realized his mistake.
Now, she had changed her appearance, her voice, and her name. Even the way she looked at him was cold and unfamiliar.
Maybe in this lifetime, he would never see her eyes filled with love for him.
"So our design director, Miss Wilson, is this impressive! I must learn more from her in the future!" Luna said.
Adeline, holding a stack of documents, descended the stairs. Just as she reached the entrance to the design department, she heard Luna's gentle voice inside. "Lucia, if Miss Wilson doesn't like me, you have to help me out."
