Chapter 669 Impossible
Jasper's deep, cold voice sent a shiver down both Rex and Nathan's spines.
The hospital room fell into a long silence.
Finally, Nathan was the first to react.
He forced a smile and said, "Jasper, you must be kidding, right? Brenda is your stepmother. She hasn't done anything truly terrible. Why would you send her to the police?"
Jasper crossed his arms, his icy gaze sweeping over Nathan's soaked clothes. "Where have you been?"
Nathan laughed awkwardly. "I... I... I didn't go anywhere."
Jasper didn't respond, just continued to look at him with a detached expression. The powerful aura he exuded made it hard for anyone to speak.
Nathan was so nervous he started to tremble. Following Jasper's gaze, he looked down at his wet clothes and quickly explained, "I... I fell into the artificial lake when I got here."
Jasper's deep eyes bore into Nathan. "I meant before that. When Brenda held Bennett at knifepoint, threatening Lily to hand over the antidote to save your useless son Rex, where were you?"
Jasper's words left Nathan frozen.
"This..." he frowned at Jasper, then turned to Rex. "Rex, what happened?"
Rex lowered his head, not daring to look at either Jasper or Nathan. "It's... it's pretty much like he said."
Rex continued, "This morning, I heard that Lily was going to get the antidote today. I told Mom that I felt poisoned too and asked if I could get an antidote. That would be great. After all, I'm still young, and it wouldn't matter if Lily lived a few more days. Mom said she had a way."
Rex bit his lip and hung his head like a child who had done something wrong. "I thought Mom would succeed. After all, Lily cares about those three kids. But instead of Mom bringing back the antidote, I got news from the nurse that Mom was taken away by the police."
As he spoke, he started to cry, his back trembling. "I was just about to tell you this."
"Mom was sent to the police by Jasper. Dad, what do we do? If something happens to Mom, I don't want to live anymore!"
Rex's sobs filled the room.
Jasper leaned against the door, his eyes growing colder. He couldn't believe that Rex could be so despicable.
Maybe it was because Rex's crying was so unbearable, Nathan glared at him fiercely. "Shut up! Your mom is just in the police station. She is innocent. She'll be out soon!"
He glanced at Jasper out of the corner of his eye. "Besides, Jasper is your brother. We're family!"
"Family matters can always be resolved, right? Your mom will be fine! Stop crying!"
Then he turned to Jasper with a fawning smile. " Jasper, you mean it like this?"
Nathan's words made Jasper smirk.
At this point, he still hoped Jasper would let Brenda go for the sake of "family"?
Jasper shifted to a more comfortable position against the door, his gaze indifferent as he looked at Nathan. "What happens to Brenda is up to the court, not me."
He gave Nathan a cold look. "But you need to come with me now."
Nathan frowned. "Where to?"
Jasper smirked, "Lily refused the antidote, and her condition's getting worse. Aunt passed away years ago. As her only son, do I need to spell it out for you?"
Nathan paused, realizing Jasper wanted him to visit Lily and say something nice.
Nathan narrowed his eyes. "Jasper, I get what you're saying."
He turned and sat on the sofa, his eyes filled with arrogance. "But if you want me to do something, you need to give me something in return."
Jasper stared at him. "How dare you still harbor the delusion of receiving a reward?"
"Of course." Nathan crossed his legs, his voice dripping with arrogance. "After all, I spend time with Lily on her deathbed to be unfortunate. A little compensation isn't too much to ask, right?"
Jasper looked at him coldly, saying nothing.
"My demands are simple." Nathan yawned. "First, release Brenda so she can take care of Rex. You see how Rex is. He can't be without her."
He smirked. "I remember that when you were seventeen, Lily gave you the Foster family business. But she still had her own assets. Those small factories in the south of the city, they only bring in a few million dollars a year, but it's enough for Rex and me to live on."
Nathan narrowed, "Those factories should be transferred to me after she dies."
His words made Jasper's eyes darken.
In his years of business, he had seen all kinds of people.
But Nathan was truly shameless and selfish to use Lily's last moments to negotiate.
And what was more, this man was his biological father.
Jasper smiled faintly, looking at Nathan. "I told you, whether Brenda gets released isn't up to me. And Grandma's assets aren't up to me either. I can't meet either of your demands."
Nathan sneered. "If you can't meet my demands, how can you expect me to visit her and say something nice?"
Jasper said, "You have to go."
Nathan replied indifferently, "No way!"
Jasper calmly took out his phone, showing the information Ryan had given him.
"Three years ago, Rex harassed a girl in Neon City. When she resisted, he beat her severely and fled. Five years ago, Rex harassed a girl, then ran over her boyfriend, leaving him severely disabled. Six years ago..."
The room fell silent except for Jasper's cold, grim voice.
Rex listened in a daze, his bruised face filled with growing fear.
"Stop!" He covered his head. "I don't want to go to jail!"
He looked up, glaring at Nathan. "If he wants you to stay with that Lily, just do it! If he reports it to the police, my life will be ruined."
Rex was crying uncontrollably, with tears and snot flowing down his face."I don't want to go to jail!"
Nathan narrowed and was about to speak.
Jasper, standing at the door, turned another page on his phone.
"Over twenty years ago, at Radiance Springs Central Hospital, the day before my mother died in childbirth, you gave thirty thousand dollars to her surgeon."
He looked up. "If you don't want to go, should I find that surgeon today and ask what you said when you gave him the money?"
Nathan's face turned deathly pale.
