Chapter 334 I Feel a Bit Nauseous Too
[How much longer will it take you?] Adeline typed, her patience running out. She'd been sitting alone at table 55 forever, with no sign of Owen.
Owen's reply came quickly.
[Sorry, something urgent came up at work. I'm already at the airport.]
Across the table, Jasper noticed Adeline's shoulders slump a bit at the message.
Still, she managed to send back a cheerful emoji.
[No worries, work comes first. Just getting your gift is enough.]
'Maybe he saw me and lost interest?'
Adeline wasn't naive; there had to be more to his excuse.
But if he didn't want to be honest, she wouldn't push. Maybe it was better this way, keeping their good memories intact.
With a sigh, Adeline carefully put the little figurine back in its box.
At least she knew Owen had genuinely cared about her. He wouldn't have kept such a personal gift all these years otherwise.
"Something interesting in there?"
Jasper's smooth but chilly voice startled her.
Adeline quickly closed the box and met his gaze with fake indifference. "Just a little something from a friend."
Jasper slid into the seat beside her, a humorless smile on his lips. "I thought Linda was your only friend in Neon City."
"Who's the mysterious gift-giver?"
Adeline bristled at his nosy tone. "Since when are you all up in everyone's business?"
Jasper chuckled softly. "Let's just say I'm curious why Miss Wilson, who supposedly grew up abroad, has so many connections to Neon City."
Adeline narrowed her eyes, about to snap back, when the emcee's cheerful voice boomed through the venue, grabbing everyone's attention.
"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the wedding of Zavier and Zoe!"
"Let's give a warm welcome to the groom!"
As a romantic melody filled the air, Zavier, looking sharp in a white suit, confidently walked to the center of the stage.
Adeline couldn't help but scoff.
After dealing with someone as awful as Jasper, her tolerance for unpleasant people had skyrocketed.
Otherwise, just seeing Zavier would have sent her running for the bathroom.
She glanced at Jasper, who sat beside her with an unreadable expression.
Compared to him, even a jerk like Zavier seemed almost tolerable.
Moments later, Zoe entered, arm linked with her father's.
Adeline had only seen Zoe's name on the invitation and the welcome poster outside. This was the first time she saw her in person.
And it hit her why Zoe looked familiar.
Zoe was the woman Zavier had brought home the night Adeline had gone with Linda to the villa to get her stuff.
Adeline had thought Zoe sent Linda a wedding invite out of ignorance, not knowing the history between Linda and Zavier.
But if Zoe was the same woman from that night, she definitely knew.
So, she sent the invite on purpose.
A blatant move to rub it in, to flaunt her win.
Adeline scoffed inwardly.
In that light, Zavier and Zoe were a perfect match.
Knowing what a jerk Zavier was, Zoe still walked down the aisle with him and even invited his ex-wife to witness her "triumph."
The ceremony went smoothly.
After exchanging rings, Zavier grabbed the mic, his face flushed with excitement.
"Everyone here today, you're all witnesses to the love Zoe and I share."
"And today, I have another joyous announcement!"
"Zoe is pregnant! We heard the baby's heartbeat just the other day!"
Thunderous applause and cheers erupted from the guests.
But Adeline felt a wave of nausea.
It wasn't just psychological; it was physical.
She felt the urge to vomit.
And she did.
Grabbing a napkin, Adeline doubled over, dry heaving uncontrollably. Her stomach churned violently, even though she hadn't eaten all day.
Jasper frowned, thinking she was putting on a show to disrupt the wedding.
But as her dry heaves continued and her face grew paler, he realized it wasn't an act.
He gently rubbed her back and handed her a glass of water. "Are you alright?"
"I..." Adeline choked out, trying to calm her stomach, but it was no use. Another wave of nausea hit her, and she was dry heaving again.
Even though she wasn't making a scene, her distress was impossible to ignore in the otherwise celebratory atmosphere.
Heads turned, whispers started, and soon all eyes were on them.
On stage, Zavier's smug grin faltered as he noticed the commotion.
His gaze landed on Adeline, and his face hardened.
'What is she doing here?' he thought.
He hadn't invited her.
And now she was making a spectacle, throwing up at his wedding right after he announced Zoe's pregnancy.
"If you're feeling unwell, perhaps you should excuse yourself," Zavier spat, his voice dripping with disdain.
"We didn't invite you, but you're a guest nonetheless."
"If you're sick, please seek medical attention. Don't ruin everyone's mood."
His words hung in the air, thick with accusation. The guests murmured in agreement, their gazes judgmental.
"She wasn't invited, so how could she be so shameless to crash a wedding?"
"And she is being sick all over the place? Disgusting."
"Such a pretty face, but her behavior is appalling."
The whispers grew louder, more cutting.
Adeline's jaw clenched, but before she could defend herself, Jasper leaned back in his chair, a chilling smile spreading across his face. "You can't really blame Miss Wilson for feeling a little ill."
"After all, watching two vile creatures pretend to be in love is enough to make anyone sick."
