Chapter 430 Will He Make Time to Visit Blake?
Adeline didn't bother knocking to get the stuff back.
She spun around, headed downstairs, and hung out by the window for ages before sweet-talking the nurse on duty into reissuing the docs Blake needed for his surgery tomorrow.
Jasper's icy attitude made her rather admit to the nurse that she lost the papers than face more of his crap.
The nurse hustled and finally got all the paperwork Adeline needed sorted out.
To say thanks, Adeline grabbed a cab to the city center and bought the best grub for the nurse and her crew as a late-night snack.
By the time she wrapped all that up, it was already past eleven.
Yawning, she stepped out of the elevator and made her way to Blake's room.
After a few steps, she spotted Jasper standing at Blake's door.
He was peering inside through the glass.
Adeline frowned, thinking, 'What's he doing here at this hour? Maybe he feels guilty about not being there for Blake's surgery tomorrow, so he's here now. What a great dad.'
With that thought, she snorted, marched over, and lowered her voice. "Mr. Foster, why aren't you resting in your room at this hour?"
Jasper heard her cold voice and frowned slightly, pulling his gaze away from Blake and Lauren inside.
He turned, looked at Adeline with indifference, and handed her the stuff he was holding. "Aren't these for Blake's surgery tomorrow? You left them at my place and didn't even come to get them?"
Adeline squinted at the file bag in his hand. "Sorry."
She pulled out the file bag she had. "I thought I lost these, so I went downstairs to get a new set overnight."
Adeline curled her lips and shot Jasper a cold look. "It's just delivering documents. Mr. Foster could've had Ryan bring them over. Why come yourself?"
With that, she snatched the file bag from Jasper and added it to her own. "I've already got new ones, so this set should be trashed. But I'm sentimental, unlike Mr. Foster, who doesn't look at old things once he has new ones."
Her words made Jasper's eyes go cold.
It was clear she was comparing herself and Luna to the old and new documents.
Jasper squinted. "Useless things should be discarded."
Adeline smiled. "You're right. Useless things should be tossed. If I were Mr. Foster, this old set would already be in the trash."
She squinted. "But has Mr. Foster thought that this old set has Blake's personal info? You wouldn't think of that. Even if the old set still had value, people like you would still throw it away once you have a new one."
With that, Adeline took a deep breath and was about to enter the ward.
After a few steps, she suddenly remembered something and turned back to look coldly at Jasper. "By the way, Mr. Foster might not have heard me clearly before, so I'll say it again. When other kids have surgery, their parents are always by their side. I hope Blake can get what other kids have."
Adeline shot Jasper a cold look. "Did Mr. Foster catch that?"
Jasper squinted. "I'll try."
Adeline smirked. "Good, I'll be waiting for your answer tomorrow."
With that, she turned and walked into the ward.
Once the door closed, she leaned against it, eyes shut.
Outside, she heard Jasper's footsteps fading away. Yep, he was just here to drop off the documents.
After handing them over, he didn't even glance at Lauren and Blake's room before leaving.
Adeline leaned against the door, heart aching.
Earlier downstairs, she overheard Jasper telling Ryan he wouldn't be there for Blake's surgery tomorrow.
But to her face, he said he'd try.
She knew his "try" meant he wouldn't show up.
The next day, Blake's surgery went ahead as planned.
Early in the morning, Violet and Mia showed up at the hospital with huge bouquets.
Robert, Lucia, and the rest also arrived.
Even Timothy helped Violet get there.
Linda, all the way in Neon City, made a video call with David to wish Blake a successful surgery.
Brandon had already sent his blessings and a get-well card the day before.
All of Adeline's friends showed concern for Blake's surgery and sent their well-wishes.
Except for Jasper, whodidn't show up.
As Blake's biological dad, not only did he not show up, but he didn't even send Adeline a message.
Before going into the operating room, Blake chatted with Adeline while glancing at the elevator.
Adeline knew what he was hoping for.
She held Blake's hand. "Jasper's pretty busy; just focus on your surgery."
Blake looked away and smiled quietly. "It's okay if he doesn't come."
He had Adeline, Lauren, Mia, and so many others rooting for him. That was enough.
The doctor wheeled Blake into the operating room.
Violet sat down next to Adeline. "Is Jasper really not coming?"
Adeline closed her eyes and nodded with a bitter smile.
"That's just outrageous!" Violet whispered angrily, "Blake's his biological son, and for such a major surgery, he doesn't even show up?"
Lucia, frowning, spoke up indignantly, "Maybe Mr. Foster got held up? When I got to the company this morning, I heard Ryan say Mr. Foster left after making some quick arrangements. He even took two days off, so he should be coming!"
Violet pursed her lips, finally relaxing a bit. "That's more like it. It's his son having surgery; how could he not be here? I saw Blake looking at the elevator; he must be waiting for him. It's really something, being late for such a major surgery!"
Adeline leaned on the bench, her eyes fixed on the "In Surgery" sign above the operating room.
The doctor said Blake's surgery would take about five to six hours.
She didn't know how long Luna's surgery would take.
Adeline thought, 'Luna's surgery should be shorter than Blake's, right? Once it's done, will he come see Blake? Or, during Luna's surgery, will he take a moment to see Blake, who's about to be reborn from a terminal illness?'
