Chapter 499 Jasper, Do You Know?
Vikram drove Adeline around the outer ring road a few times.
They ran into some of the young guys who used to race with Vikram, but this time, they all kept their distance, staying pretty far back.
Vikram laughed while driving. "Look at these cowards! They used to mess with me, but now they won't even come close."
Adeline frowned and checked the rearview mirror.
Sure enough, those cars were keeping a good distance from theirs.
A bunch of cars were sticking together, not daring to go too fast. They looked pretty silly.
But then, Adeline spotted a familiar black Maserati among them. It looked just like Jasper's.
It was too dark, and the cars were moving around too much, so she couldn't make out the license plate. She tried to get a better look but still couldn't see it clearly.
Finally, Adeline shook her head with a bitter smile.
What was she thinking?
Jasper had made up with Luna today, saved her with Blake's blood, and had both kids with him. He was probably happily sleeping next to Luna right now. Why would he be out driving around at this hour?
Thinking about it, Adeline took a deep breath and looked at Vikram. "How about we head to the Bay Bridge?"
She needed a quiet place to talk to Vikram about finding Dr. Smith's team.
But most cafes and restaurants were closed, bars weren't great for chatting, and she didn't want to go to a hotel with Vikram. The Bay Bridge was perfect. It was cool, breezy, and empty at this hour. Plus, it was a turning point in her life.
Vikram frowned. "Why go somewhere so dangerous?"
But despite his words, he turned the car around and headed to the Bay Bridge.
Adeline guided Vikram while enjoying the night breeze, not noticing the black Maserati following them.
They spent the night on the Bay Bridge, discussing their plans.
On the distant shore, the black Maserati stayed parked.
Around six in the morning, Vikram finally drove the yawning Adeline back to Blue Bay.
Jasper watched as Vikram dropped Adeline off and saw her go inside before he took a deep breath and started his car.
He hadn't driven far when his phone rang. It was Vikram.
Vikram said, "Jasper, be careful on the road."
Leaning against his sports car, Vikram watched Jasper's car leave with a slight smile. "Didn't sleep all night, huh? Why push yourself like you're one of us young folks?"
Jasper pulled over, his voice as cold as his demeanor. "You young folks? Are you saying Adeline is young too?"
Vikram chuckled. "She's younger than you, Jasper. I think she's two or three years younger."
Jasper squinted, hearing the slight provocation in Vikram's tone. "You knew I was there the whole time?"
"Only I knew," Vikram said with a grin. "Adeline's got limited energy and wouldn't notice things she shouldn't. Only someone young like me would catch on."
Then Vikram yawned. "But Jasper, if there's a next time, maybe don't chase us around the city. First off, yeah, I have some intentions towards Adeline, but nothing harmful, so chill."
Vikram laughed, "Second, you were so cold and heartless to Adeline during the day, saying she had mental issues and wanted to put her in a mental hospital. But at night, you're all affectionate, following her everywhere. If Adeline knew, she'd probably be disgusted, right?"
Jasper's eyes narrowed sharply at Vikram's words.
If Vikram had been somewhat respectful before, this last comment was a blatant provocation!
Jasper's fingers turned pale as he gripped the phone. "Looks like you don't want the investment I gave you. The Das family doesn't need my financial support anymore."
Jasper snorted coldly. "I'll have Ryan withdraw the funds today."
The mocking expression on Vikram's face vanished.
Vikram pursed his lips. "Jasper, I was joking; don't take it seriously. Besides, I called just to remind you that you haven't slept all night, so be careful on the road."
Vikram admitted that his previous words were impulsive and reckless.
Even though he felt a sense of injustice for Adeline, he had to concede that Jasper's power and influence were forces to be reckoned with. Vikram couldn't afford to provoke him!
Hearing Vikram's words, the cold arrogance on Jasper's face slightly softened.
Jasper frowned, his voice faint. "What did you and she talk about all night?"
This question was the key to him answering Vikram's call. Otherwise, he wouldn't have bothered to talk so much with Vikram.
Vikram was silent for a moment, then took a deep breath. "She took me to the Bay Bridge and talked about her past with you. She said the car didn't actually knock her off the bridge, just to the edge. The driver saw she didn't fall and called someone named Mr. Foster. After getting instructions, he kicked her into the sea."
Vikram tried to steer the conversation towards the bits of the past Adeline had shared. "She also mentioned the reason she walked onto the cross-sea bridge was because she heard the sounds of you and her sister Molly together at home."
Jasper squinted. "What's your relationship with Molly?"
Jasper gripped the phone, his eyes dark, his voice cold. "I have no relationship with Molly."
The only connection was Adeline.
Vikram said, "But shortly after Adeline's accident, you announced your engagement to Molly."
Jasper said, "That was just to help take care of Adeline's sister!"
Vikram responded lightly, "But from Adeline's perspective, she would think what she heard and saw was real, that you harmed her to be with Molly."
Jasper squinted, his voice cold and firm. "I wasn't with Molly, and I didn't harm her!"
Vikram sighed. "Jasper, of course, I believe you, but Adeline doesn't. She still holds a grudge against you for harming her. But if you don't find Molly, no matter what you tell Adeline, she won't buy it."
After saying that, Vikram changed the subject. "By the way, Adeline told me that Molly seems to have returned to Radiance Springs. Do you know that, Jasper?"
