Daisy's words made Adeline's eyes flash with sudden sharpness.
She narrowed her eyes and turned around, glaring at Daisy, who was sitting in the chair.
"A stray dog?"

"Mom is about to become a member of the Phoebe family. There's no time left."
Lauren nodded, "Adults' matters are not for us kids to interfere with, but we have the right to help Dad one last time."
